  1. Woh! Haven't got there yet, but can't wait Hi Julie They certainly are very funny and witty, they're probably going to be up there with my favourite books now.
  2. Give A Little Bit ~ Supertramp (looking very cheerful today, dex )
  3. Started reading The Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford which I was thoroughly enjoying, I think it may be even funnier than Love in a Cold Climate. But The Mitford Girls (biography by Mary Lovell) was sitting there, mocking me, so ...... I just had to start reading it. I'm not finding this a difficult read at all, in fact I'm having trouble putting it down! Fascinating stuff and interesting to see where Nancy got so many ideas from for her books. But the more I read about her, the less I like Nancy, she has a really nasty streak even though you have to admire her wicked sense of humour.
  4. All Along the Watchtower ~ Jimi Hendrix
  5. Ghosts That We Knew ~ Mumford and Sons (surprise surprise )
  6. Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town ~ Kenny Rogers and the First Edition
  7. I'm the same Muggles, I don't really take any notice of the reviews, I'm usually after a specific book that I've already decided to buy. I don't think I'd take the reviews on Amazon too seriously ....but that rather backs up others opinion that it needs improving.
  8. Janie's Got a Gun ~ Aerosmith
  9. Supermassive Black Hole ~ Muse (I took a few liberties with the 'mass' there, but it's such a good song)
  10. Tell me about it!! I have become a very impetuous buyer overnight. But books are really expensive here, the kindle versions are way cheaper. And often the library doesn't have the books I want, if i order them and they are rentals it can almost cost as much. This way I have them for ever. I am going show self-control though and finish a book before I buy the next one Have you read anything by Neil Gaiman before? I think you'd really enjoy Stardust.
  11. No Woman, No Cry ~ Bob Marley
  12. Trouble with map reading too Muggles? *asks very innocently*
  13. Just looked up the TV series ....is that the one with Alan Bates and Celia Imrie??? Oh my goodness, I've just GOT to see that. I love Celia and Alan Bates would be a brilliant Uncle Matthew (isn't he such a character? Just read about the entrenching tool ) Will check out the local video store. Thanks Poppyshake I might have to read The Mitford Girls at a later date. A friend read it first (she gave up, found all the names and nicknames too confusing) and it's already on it's second renewal. So sharing and caring Vod
  14. I actually find the maps quite helpful (well to be perfectly honest VERY helpful) I have a completely useless sense of direction, and they've no sooner left home, followed the river to the south, made a couple of turns hither and thither .....and I'm hopelessly lost. However, I pride myself on my map reading skills, although my husband is quick to dispute this fact since once, well maybe twice, I took us on a rather scenic route. I still feel it was the maps accuracy that was at fault. So when fantasy books have these great treks all over the place, I rather like to see where we are going (and how we're going to get home again ....I'm a bit like Bilbo and miss my home comforts)
  15. Sorry Bree, only just noticed your question. Yes, I'm loving my Kindle. I'm still getting used to the touch feature but it's wonderful (although SO tempting) to be able to get a book you want in under a minute. This is what the text looks like (you can change the font size) http://www.google.co...XdnYCIAg&zoom=1 I have just finished reading Love in a Cold Climate by Nancy Mitford. I think I've caught some kind of bug from Poppyshake (it's probably got something to do with the name similarity) but I think I'm going to go on a Mitford bender. I enjoyed this so much, it's not a serious book at all but Nancy has such a wicked sense of humour and her characters are delightfully eccentric. Set between the two World Wars, Nancy loosely based her books on her own family. I was so disappointed when this finished, I wasn't watching the % count and I turned the page and it ended! So I immediately went and bought The Pursuit of Love by her. I would also like to read The Mitford Girls by Mary Lovell, which I have out from the library, but I don't think I will have time before it's due back. It's a fairly hefty tome, but they sound such a fascinating family.
  16. It's a while since I read Lighthousekeeping but it's one of those books that has stuck in my mind (and that's no mean feat these days .....just ask Muggle ) Jeanette Winterson's writing has an almost lyrical quality to it, I thought it quite beautiful. I started to read Sexing the Cherry but found it rather surreal and laid it aside. I saw the semi-autobiographical Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit and would love to read that, she certainly had an unusual upbringing.
  17. Haha Dex .....very cryptic So Far Away ~ Dire Straits
  18. No I didn't Vod, sorry, I'll go and see if I can find it.
  19. This is another beautiful Mumford and Son song I've just discovered. Love the lyrics. Not With Haste Your eyes they tie Me down so hard I'll never learn to put up a guard So keep my love My candle bright Learn me hard, oh learn me right This ain't no sham I am what I am Though I may speak Some tongue of old Or even spit out some holy word I have no strength From which to speak When you sit me down, and see I'm weak We will run and scream You will dance with me They'll fulfill our dreams And we'll be free And we will be who we are And they'll heal our scars Sadness will be far away So as we walked Through fields of green Was the fairest sun I'd ever seen And I was broke I was on my knees But you said yes as I said please This ain't no sham I am what I am I leave no ties For a cynic's mind We will run and scream You will dance with me They'll fulfill our dreams And we'll be free And we will be who we are And they'll heal our scars Sadness will be far away Do not let my fickle flesh go to waste As it keeps my heart and soul in its place And I will love with urgency but not with haste http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8E9kso12GU
  20. Alexander, that is stunning!
  21. 50 Words For Snow ~ Kate Bush
  22. Well I certainly hope I haven't sent you into a heap of tears this time! He's still on your side of the world at the mo' so hopefully you're OK
