I love this song and the movie. :D I watched the movie many times when I was little. I bought it on DVD too, so I could relive my happy childhood. I think it was only when I watched it as an adult that I realised it was a New Zealand movie. I guess I had always thought of Footrot Flats as Australian for some reason!

I think it could quite easily be Australia too, our rural folk are similar. Have you heard of Fred Dagg? NZ comedian and satirist John Clarke created him. He's  lived in Aussie now since 1979. He portrayed a stereotypical Kiwi farmer, the humour which I'm sure Aussies would 'get' and relate to, as well.  :D

  2. War Brides by Helen Bryan

I just love books set during the World Wars, particularly ones about everyday people dealing with the hardships and stresses they had to endure. Once I started reading this, I didn't want to stop. It's not the best written book and I felt the gap between WWII and the modern day could have been filled in more, but even so I thoroughly enjoyed it.  An enjoyable light read.

  3. Philippines Typhoon - The devastation and loss of life is terrible. There are estimates of between 1000 and 10000 feared dead. It is the largest typhoon on record, I understand.

The scenes of devastation are truly shocking. My heart goes out to all those poor people. Latest death toll sounds like it's going to be 10,000. It's unbelievable the destruction they've suffered. Now it's heading for Vietnam, I so hope and pray it's ferocity starts to lessen.

  4. We are making one of our twice yearly trips to Washington, DC next Wednesday for an appointment with our doctor for a medical check-up. I expect to catch heck from him as I have put on about 4 or 5 pounds since last visit and my sugar level will probably be up. He called me at home after test results came in from my last check-up and he was very happy that I had got my weight down to 165 and the sugar level had dropped.

My doctor is now recognized as one of the so called "Super Doctors" in the Eastern U.S.

I'm with Pont on this, 4 or 5 pounds isn't a big deal. Have a lovely time :D

  5. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce.

Harold sets out one morning to post a letter to a dying friend and decides to walk the length of England to visit her. He meets many interesting characters on the way and has time to reflect on his life. Really enjoyed this, a poignant and sensitively written book.
