  1. My favorite place is my bed. But I read everywhere. Everywhere. There was a time I had to sneak it when I went potty. Hazards of small children.
  2. I could have sworn there was a thread like that here! "The Secret Garden" "Harriet The Spy" I read Ngaio Marsh when I was about eleven and loved her. I read Terry Brooks "Sword Of Shannara" when I was about twelve and loved it. I read and reread "Dune" by Frank Herbert when I was thirteen.
  3. Kim Richey's "Chinese Boxes" Linkin Park's newest one.
  4. Oh I am SO glad I'm not the only one who does this. The great thing is that I can reread books again. I even have books that I reread at least once a year, because I may remember the gist of the book, but the pleasure is in the details. "Gaudy Night" by Dorothy L. Sayers is one like that.
  5. I find a lot of Jane Austen's work translates better on film. I love "Pride and Prejudice" and the A&E version is stellar. "Persuasion" was more difficult to read, but a FABULOUS movie (With Amanda Root). "Emma" is a one of my favorite books, but I can see how it would be tough to slog through. I have a Jane Austen mood. Then, I'll sit down and read all of the ones I own in a week or two. For me, the language, the style, everything is a mood.

    Hobbies

Well, writing and promotion for my book releases take a lot of my free time, but I also like camping, watching The Deadliest Catch (on the Discovery Channel) and Ice Road Truckers (on The History Channel)
  7. 1. I'm an author (published in electronic publishing and a small press) 2. I'm the youngest of three girls name Jerry, Julie and I'm Jennifer. 3. Today is my birthday and I'm a Virgo with Virgo rising 4. I'm a mother of two and didn't start having kids until I was 31. 5. I burned Poptarts this morning which I didn't think was possible.
  8. Emily Dickenson, Robert Service and Robert Frost are some of my favorites too. I also love John Donne
  9. She's new to me too. Awesome, Michelle.
  10. You ought to see the looks I get from people when I tell them that I read a history of Chinese civilization for pleasure! My favorite has to be "A Distant Mirror" by Barbara Tuchman. I also read Desmond Morris. I love books on archeology though it has to be for the layman or I get completely lost.
  11. :blush:Totally guilty of this. I bought "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett and all the Winnie The Pooh books. And Andrew Lang's Fairy Tale books ("The Lilac Fairy Tale Book" "The Blue Fairy Tale Book" etc) I have two small children but they don't like them. I do.
  12. I'm a member of a writer's forum and this was in someone's signature there. I was curious and popped by. I joined up last September, but I haven't had a chance to really explore this forum until now. I love it by the way.
  13. Well, for actual "war" books I read non fiction (Winston Churchill, Barbara Tuchman and others). The best book I've read that were written during WWII don't really involve the war at all. Ngiao Marsh's books "Died In The Wool" and "Color Scheme" are both set during the war. They're brilliant.
  14. Um, you guys are going to laugh at me. I don't like sad books that much and tend to avoid them. But I got caught off guard when I read "The Elfstones Of Shannara" by Terry Brooks. The end of the book was NOT expected and I cried. Most books that are sad (like Barbara Kingsolver's "The Poisonwood Bible" don't make me cry. They just depress me.
  15. I'm embarrassed to say that I often turn down the pages of a book. I lose bookmarks all the time. I saw this thread and laughed. I could hear my father scolding me for "abusing" my books.
