  1. I read in the metro that a sequel to, none other, than Peter Pan has been put out! It's called Peter Pan in Scarlet I'm not sure what to make of that! Sounds interesting though. I might give it a go. What do you think about updating this classic and you think you would try it?
  2. Ah, yes, that was the time my atomic mega blaster malfunctioned and turned me into a giant hamster. I tell you, I was picking bit's of brick out of my cheek pouches for weeks! A most unfortunate incident!

  13. I picked up "The War of the Flowers" by Tad Williams for two reasons. The first reason was that it is one of those all too rare things; it's a stand alone fantasy novel. The second reason was that it was by the author Tad Williams. Many years ago I read the "Memory, Sorrow, Thorn" trilogy that he penned and loved it. I think, to this day, it's still the best fantasy that I have ever read. It's places are so rich and real. The cultures, peoples, and histories of the imagined places as real as any that I know in this world. "The War of the Flowers" is also great in this respect. This is a contemporary fantasy novel set ( mostly ) in faerie I picked up War of the Flowers by Tad Williams for two reasons. The first reason was that it was on of those all too rare things; it was a stand alone fantasy novel. The second reason was that it was by the author Tad Williams. Many years ago I read the "Memory, Sorrow, Thorn trilogy" that he has penned and loved it. I think, to this day, it's still the best fantasy that I have ever read. It's places are so rich and real. The cultures, peoples, and histories of the imagined places as real as any that I know in this world. The faerie of this novel is very different. If you held a distorted star encrusted magic mirror to our world then you would probably get the faerie of this novel. There have been quite a few depictions of this mythical place, but this isn't my favourite one. The best, for me, have been in Gaiman's "Stardust" and in "Jonathon Strange & Mr Norrell" by Susanna Clark. This isn't because of any fault with the writing or the conception of this faerie, simply that the others were more to my tastes. If you think you would really enjoy a twisted faerie that in a lot of ways mirrors our world then it's certainly something you will enjoy a lot. As I said, Tad Williams is wonderful at creating places, peoples, and cultures. The faerie setting in this novel is so real, rich, and deep and something I really enjoyed traveling through. The book is well written. To me, it was a little slow to start and I didn't really click with the protagonist, Theo Vilmos. As the pages turn by the book becomes more and more interesting and by half way you probably will find it hard to put down because you want to know what the hell is going to happen next! The main character, Theo, grew on me. He was joined by an interesting cast of characters. My favourite character was the feisty foul mouthed sprite Applecore. All in all - I really enjoyed this novel. I don't think it's the best thing ever written in fantasy, but it has a lot to recommend it. It's original, it's stand alone, and it's a fantastic and exciting page turner! It's certainly one of the better books I have read this year and would recommend it! I give it a 4 out of 5 on the hamster rating!
  14. The most I have ever paid for dinner was at TGI Friday's... I know, classy! But i LURVE baby back ribs with the special JD sauce! I think it came to about
  15. Nope, it's not a colourful name, but actual lamb's hearts stuffed with sage and onion stuffing. Personally, I think it's really delicious. It has a taste and texture all of it's own. It's one of my favourite things. Mmmm yum! Can't wait till next week to have it with onion gravey, mashed potatoes and veggies!
  16. I saw the trailer for a new movie Children of Men and thought it looked damn interesting. I did a little digging and found it's based upon the novel by P.D James of the same title. I think that I would prefer to read something like this than watch a movie. Books are so much better at conveying lots of ideas and concepts. Has anybody read this book, and what did you think?
  17. This thread is inspired by Freewheeling Andy's trip to Gordon Ramsey's and the
  18. I thought of another thing that might seem weird to those in other countries. Well, maybe even to a lot of Brits. Next week I'll be having stuffed hearts! Yuuuuuumy!
  19. Ah yes! I'll extend my list to include cider though I prefer the Irish Magner's cider! Crumpets and cornish pasties would also be very much missed! Although... you could probably make cornish pasty. Another thing I missed from my initial list... JAFFA CAKES!!!!!! How could I do such a thing? Oh the orangy and chocolatey goodness!
  20. OOOOOOOOOOH! I didn't know that she was bringing out some short stories next month! I'll be getting that when it's in paperback form

  24. Let's pretend for a moment you are moving abroad to another country. Maybe you are already in this situation! What food items would you miss from home? I would miss some pretty silly things. I think it's often the small things that make a big impact on us. I think I would miss sausage rolls from bakers. I really lurve sausage rolls cooked fresh from the bakers. Bad for you, but yumsum! I would miss British style gravy. I wouldn't miss fish and chips because it's not something I'm really into. Depending on where I go then I would certainly miss British Chocolate. I'm sure there are more things, but my brain is burned out right now! What would you miss?
