  3. Hi Tess - Nice to read you here. Where do you write? do you have an office or a room at home? I have heard of authors working to a number of words per day - do you have a target amount or write as the mood takes you? Thanks Kx
  4. I borrowed the 1st in the Ladies Detective series from the library today - looking forward to reading it. I have the second on my bookshelf - Tears of a Giraffe - but cant remember why or where I aquired it!
  5. I watched The Book Show (Sky Arts) this week and discovered Nicci French was infact a husband and wife writing team. Nicci Gerrard and Sean French. Had been considering giving a book of theirs a go, but not so keen after searching on here!
  6. I had salmon, new pots and runner beans, with some hollandaise sauce - YUM!
  7. This week I watched an interesting interview with Frances Fyfield on Sky Arts 'The Book Show'. I had not previously heard of her and loved the sound of her latest book - BLOOD FROM STONE - Marianne Shearer is at the height of her career, a dauntingly successful barrister, respected by her peers and revered by her clients. So why has she killed herself? Her latest case had again resulted in an acquittal, though the outcome was principally due to the death of the prime witness after Marianne's forceful cross-examination. Had this wholly professional and unemotional lawyer been struck by guilt or uncertainty, or is there some secret to be discovered in her blandly comfortable private life? Her death reveals a paucity of friends, a grasping brother and a tenacious colleague, Peter Friel, who is determined to find out if that last trial held the reason for her taking her own life. The transcript holds intriguing clues, but it is another witness at the trial who holds the key to the truth and she is far from sure that she can reveal her secrets without releasing even more deceit and destruction. She has also written under her given name of France Hegarty, I did a search on both names on the site but couldnt find anything ~ Has anyone read any of her other books? Any recommendations?
  8. Sounds good Michelle. I am not usually into chick lit but this sounds interesting - maybe too close to home for me but going to give it a go. Added to my wish list, thanks for the rec. Kx
  9. I buy from Amazon mainly but also buy from The Book People - fantastic value for sets and collections, supermarkets, play.com, Ebay etc. Its funny but I rarely go to bookshops - there arent any local to me and when have I visited them I have found them rather expensive in comparison. Kx
  10. Meatballs in a roasted veg based tomato sauce (cheats way of getting veg into my daughter!) with spagetti
  11. Great review Sugar I was also shocked that I hadnt realised that the people of German had to endure the war as much as British people. I loved the relationships Liesel formed especially with Rudy, Hans, Max and the narrator. A piece of imagery I have reread over and over - Although slow to start The Book Thief is an amazing book which had me in tears for the last 20 mins - I will be recommending it to anyone who will listen. Kx
  12. King Prawn Curry - being lazy sauce from a jar!
  13. I found one in the Pilots Wife by Anita Shreve The Grandmother is referred to in the present tense as 68 years old then further in the book again in present tense as 64 years old. I actually woke my husband to tell him and make him check it LOL!! I have since released the book via Bookcrossing so cant check it so age quoted might be wrong but it was different.
  14. Oooh - Have added these to my must read list, sounds like my kind of book. KxXx
  15. Thanks Michelle - I think I might order an Archos and give it a go, sounds fantastic for travelling. The good thing about QVC is you have 30 days to return it if its not for you and its interest free for 4 months. Would still be interested to hear from anyone who owns one? KxXx
  16. Off the top of my head I would highly recommend the following 2 for your pile, not historical but I am sure she would love them ~ The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult HTH Kx
  17. After searching high and low I still havent found anything, thats not to say it doesnt exist - perhaps I it does and has a specific name. I switched on QVC today and they have an Archos on special today. It appears to be all singing all dancing ~ music, photos, films, recording from tv ~ but can it be used for ebooks? I looked up and found it can be used to read pdf files - are ebooks usually in this format? Does anyone own an archos? Many thanks Kx
  18. Wow! I am amazed this has opened up a whole new world to me - I am so behind with technology. I have downloaded the mobipocket software thanks Can anyone help me? I have been considering buying an ipod for music/ audio books but would now love to have an ebook reader. Is there a machine that has both of these functions. As basic as possible, just music and ebooks not looking for any other functions. Am I pushing my luck asking for low cost too? Many thanks in anticipation of your help:friends0: K x
