  1. What a brilliant day for our Scottish (GB) curlers...the men did so well to get their win today right to the absolute last stone. The German guy must have been gutted when his stone completely missed the mark as it were. And the girls....well what a game (short) 7 stones in one end and a record. Great stuff and then to win 12-3 in six ends....whoop (sorry USA, but you were kind of outplayed today). Two days of not doing much else than watching the curling, and no doubt more of the same tomorrow!
  2. Thanks girls....I hope you both enjoy her books whatever they may be.
  3. Well I'm all curled out today....watched all the GB games...well done the guys, shame about the afternoon session though. Unlucky girls this morning...but hey it's only the first game. Better luck tomorrow hopefully...at least I don't need to get up at stupid o'clock to watch it...10am will do nicely ...then 3pm. Saw some womens ice hockey too....great win for USA.
  4. Finished 'The Shoemaker's Wife' by Adriana Trigiani and off to start 'The Invention of Wings' by Sue Monk Kidd
  5. Yip me...been watching the snowboary flying through the air stuff...and really enjoyed some of the women's ice hockey this afternoon. Please for the Russian team getting their first win in front of their home crowd. Can't wait for the curling to start though. Good have the red button for options too.
  6. 'The Shoemaker's Wife' by Adriana Trigiani Review Here Fellow bookcrosser 'bookfrogster' sent me this as a RABCK and one from my wishlist. I'm so glad she did as I really enjoyed it. Adriana Trigiani weaves a lovely story.
  7. 'The Shoemaker's Wife' by Adriana Trigiani Finished this one quite quickly and I really enjoyed it. Having read 'The Big Stone Gap' trilogy I thought I would be in for a good read and wasn't disappointed. Based loosely on the experience of her grandparents Adriana, to me, writes this with a slight feeling of personal family history. The lives of two young people, Ciro and Enza, in Italy are transported in separate storylines over the vastness of the ocean journey to start new lives in America. From humble beginnings, circumstances separate the families and Enza and her father travel to America. Ciro has to say goodbye to his brother, and their safe home within the surrounds of the local convent, where they were left to be looked after by their mother. Fate brings them together on more than one occasion, until they eventually join in marriage. With elements of sadness, love, faith, friendships and most of all the strong ties of the family bond, this was a gentle and touching story. From starting out with barely anything at all they make lives for themselves working hard to make things work. I liked the gentleness of the descriptions of the way of life, the surroundings etc. You really got a feel for where they lived in Italy and America. I did shed a tear which was going to be inevitable at the end of one of chapters though, but that is life. Yes I did enjoy this one and would recommend if you like Adriana Trigiani. 4/5

    More football

There was no footie last weekend. Today U'16's no game....Glendale did and managed to give away sharing a 0-0 in the lasts 5 mins. Only saw second half and apparently they could have had a few in the first half...same old story, not taking chances. Somebody missed a sitter from 5 yards and binned it over the bar!!!! Final score...lost 1-0.

I think it might be 2 go down. He is almost at the point of saying it might be better if they go down and then build up their team again. Been too many disruptions with players injured and players unable to play etc. Apparently the first 35 mins went well, they scored first and then they fell apart...same old story!
  13. I have no idea what books you talk of. My reading is OK at the moment...read to complete books and finished one that I started in Dec /finished Jan, so counting that one. Now on my 4th book of the year so that is a good start for me, although this one is thicker and writing is a bit smaller, but enjoying it.
  14. Your bookshelves must look lovely with all these lovely covers.
  15. OK...thanks for that Hayley...might keep her in mind too...(like I need more!)
  16. I love the unusual book covers you manage to find.
  17. How is the reading going
  18. I'll help too. That goes without saying and Kay can supply the spotty cups and teapots and cakes for break time...
  19. Guess you need to add that 'other book' that arrived today to your TBR list above... I noticed Nora Roberts on your list...I've never read any of hers...are they chic lit genre or something else.

Well after a very soggy wet week up here, Andy predicted that both games would be off....wrong, both games were on! He had to opt out of playing though and went to U'16's, new coach is still needing a wee bit of guidance. U'16's beaten 4-0 though and maybe just as well he wasn't playing for Glendale...thumped 6-1... (ouchy). Sitting 3rd bottom in the league...having a rubbish season and possibly going down! Ah well there is always next week.
  21. I see you have The Dove Keepers by Alice Hoffman on your list. I picked up a copy of that last year. It might be one I will try and read this year.
  22. Drawn right in to ....'The Shoemaker's Wife' by Adriana Trigiani. Have only read 30 pages but it is really good so far
  23. 'The Vintage Teacup Club' by Vanessa Greene. Review Here This one was sent to me by a fellow bookcrosser who saw that I had it on my wishlist. It was a bit of a chic lit, but enjoyable enough and didn't take me long to read, so adding to my reads for 2014 quickly.
  24. 'The Vintage Teacup Club' by Vanessa Greene This was a very chic lit read for me I'm afraid, but it was a nice enough read. Three women, Jenny, Maggie and Alison all brought together by china teacups. Jenny is marrying Dan and wants to have an old fashioned themed wedding and is looking for old, pretty teasets. Maggie is a florist and has a big wedding to do and wants pretty teacups as part of the floral display. Alison has always been crafty minded and is venturing into creating candles in pretty teacups. They meet up at a car boot sale when they all spy a pretty teaset at the same time. Over a cuppa they decide they will share it at different times. All the women become friends and the story intermingles amongst their everyday lives in one way or another, careers and relationships, highs and lows. Each chapter is narrated by one of the three. The friendships become stronger over time and they support each other through some trials and tribulations. The characters were likeable and believable, but the writing I felt was very ordinary, but if you want an easy book to whizz through give it a go, especially if you like 'Vintage Teacups' 3/5
