'The House We Grew Up In' by Lisa Jewell
The Bird family, Lorelei, her husband Colin and their four children seem like a normal family and they have a lovely life in the country but due to a tragic event that happens one Easter Sunday, their lives will never be the same. In time the children seem to push what happens to the back of their minds and they all move away from home. Lorelei becomes an extreme hoarder and it isn't until she passes away and the family reunite to sort out the family home that the truth eventually comes to light. I thought this was an interesting theme for the main character that I hadn't come across before. I don't want to say much more without giving anything away. Admittedly all the characters are not without faults, but we find out on the journey what has made them the way they are and why.
I'm not sure I have read Lisa Jewell before but I enjoyed her writing and wouldn't dismiss trying another of her books.

Been struggling to get on with Life After Life ~ Kate Atkinson.....too much jumping back and forward and can't/couldn't get to grips with it. Thinking I might just abandon now, but too long since I picked it up to read.

Been reading some light frothy nonsense this week as work has been too busy to concentrate on anything more taxing. I have a Wainwright Prize book lined up next, and then I'll see where the mood takes me!
Sometimes you just need a bit of fluffy frothy nonsense...I picked up a couple this week too.

Enjoying 'The house we grew up in' by Lisa Jewell
Oops...went in to a local café to me that has shelves of books for swapping. The idea is you can take one if you replace with one of your own....so I did, but came out with two...need to take another one in...any excuse for a scone and coffee while I browse.
'The Beach Café' by Lucy Diamond
'6 Rainier Drive' by Debbie Macomber (a Cedar Cove one)

All these books you are listing and I haven't heard of any of them...

'Sing you Home' by Jodi Picoult
Another controversial read dealing with a divorced couple, religious beliefs, gay rights, fertility issues and loss and the unborn children waiting at a fertility clinic. The inevitable dealings of civil rights and courtroom scenes is par for the course with a Picoult book, but I enjoy when she adds in the odd twists in the later part of the book.
Max and Zoe are divorced but each are given a chance at a new life, but the consequences of their 'unborn' child(ren) and the choices they have to make will be decided in court....will it be the right choice for one of them.

Goodness me...what a long list of read books...I have 8...
-
I find it so frustrating when I desperately want to read a 'good book' and then get in to it and can't finish it quick enough to get on to another.

Love your review on 'Ice Twins' and I know where you are coming from with that...it annoyed me greatly in places, but I had to finish it.

69 read...oh my...how do you read them so fast...
-
Oh I loved the Little House books when I was younger....I devoured them I seem to remember. I was possibly given one for a present and then more at the library. Glad you are enjoying them
-
I have it in my TBR pile ; I got it after you recommended it.
I liked the review too.
Hoping it doesn't disappoint Little Pixie....
I haven't read any of this author's books yet, but have heard others who have struggled with this one . I hope you find something else to hold your attention more .
Nothing wrong with only reading 8 ! We all read and enjoy books at different paces .
Thanks...just started a Jodi Picoult...'Sing you Home'...so far so good. She always draws me in to her books, so fingers crossed.

Hi Julie...only read 8 so far. In the middle of Life after Life, but have put it aside just now, wasn't holding my interest. Trying to choose my next read.

'If My Father Loved Me' by Rosie Thomas
Not an overly riveting read, but wanted to finish it. Believable characters, but it was a bit repetitive I found. Expected a bit more, but not sure what. I didn't know what to expect given the title. Sadie's father is dying and she always felt there was something she didn't know and felt he didn't love her more. She eventually finds out what it was when her son befriends an old lady who comes to the funeral who knew her father....there is more to tell than she could ever have known.

Which Kate Atkinson one did you give up on? I read through previous posts but couldn't find anything about which one of hers you are reading.
I always list what I'm reading on my first page and also under my piccie. 'Life after Life' is what I have abandoned at the moment.

Back to a Rosie Thomas that has been on my shelf a few years, so hopefully that will be good. Have given up on the Kate Atkinson one at the moment.

'Eloise' by Judy Finnigan
When I bought this charity shop find I thought it sounded good. Managed to get to the end but wasn't an overly exciting read. Bit repetitive and characters are bland and annoying at times. I wouldn't call it a 'ghost story'. I can sympathise with Cathy over the loss of her friend to cancer but the plot was a bit dull. It did pick up a little towards the final chapter and she did tidy it together quite well. I so wanted to slap her husband though. One minute being supportive and then not all on the one page.
I wouldn't bother reading this to be honest.

Yes....my home team Raith Rovers scuppered Rangers making sure of the league today, by getting draw in the last minute. They will have to wait to try elsewhere now for a win.

'The Silent Sister' by Diane Chamberlain
I couldn't wait any longer into the new year to read another Diane Chamberlain, and again her book didn't disappoint.
Another good read from Diane Chamberlain. Family secrets at their best. Great characters and a bit of a twist I wasn't expecting too...isn't there always?
Riley returns to her family home and while clearing out the much loved family home, comes across a box of newspaper cuttings....here she find a shocking secret she was totally unaware of during her childhood. She believed that her sister Lisa died in a tragic accident, but all is not as it seems and she sets out to find out the truth. Her brother Danny isn't forthcoming of what he knows. What isn't he telling her. He is bitter about how the family were left to deal with things, but he is a difficult person to read and she knows she must find out more with or without his help. Eventually she manages to unravel the truth with clues from others along the way....but is surprised to find out what it is.
Another great page turner well worth reading.

A J Cronin was a doctor by trade and wrote his first novel after being prescribed six months’ bed rest following an illness. He is probably most famous for creating Dr Finlay who featured in a TV series in the late 1960s (not that I’ve ever seen it, but I had heard of it!).
Not there is a coincidence....friends and I were just talking about Dr Finlay from the 60's on Monday over coffee and the programmes we remembered....

Thanks Athena...her name almost makes me think I have read her before, but none of the titles I checked on rang any bells with me.
I have also abandoned 'Life After Life' by Kate Atkinson....just wasn't enjoying it and was too much of a long read to persevere with it and not enjoy reading.
