  1. Oh Louise how awful. Yuk! But it could have been worse ye know - it could have been alive!
  2. I have finished Don
  3. The first time I stumbled upon her books I could not believe that anyone would call a book Cross Stitch. I lifted it from the shelf to see just what it was about. I was hooked.
  4. I have finished Every Light in the House Burnin
  5. That is a good list Kitty. Some great books there. Some on my list and some I would like to put on my list if it were not so long already. The Diana Gabaldon books are great. I assume that you have already read Cross Stitch and Dragonfly in Amber since they are not on your list. Did you enjoy them? I have still to read A Breath of Snow and Ashes. It is so big, but I must get around to it soon.
  6. Angel the books by Kalogris sound as if they would be interesting. I must look her up soon. I also loved North and South on the BBC. I recently bought the book but don
  7. I have a very young lilac in the garden Muggle. It is more a deep wine colour than the pretty purple ones. Last year was the first time it flowered and they were very small flowers. I am hoping for bigger flowers this year. It is budding up at the moment. I will be able to tell if it has a lovely scent later in the spring. I think I would like a white lilac PP. Have you got lilacs in your new garden Muggle?
  8. Oh I had not realised that there were three more books she had written. That is good news. I will try and read them in the order you suggest Amy. Thanks:)
  9. The roses are beautiful Poppy. Do they have a lovely scent?
  10. I really mean to read more of Maggie O’Farrell's books. I think they are excellent.
  11. I have finished reading The Interpretation of Murder and I have now started on Every Light in the House Burnin
  12. I have finished reading the Interpretation of Murder and on the whole it has been enjoyable. I liked the setting and thought that it probably realistically portrayed New York at that time. I thought that it was very atmospheric. I found the story difficult to follow in places however, and I was not particularly keen on the switching between first and third person narratives. I think it made a bit more confusing for me. I would also have liked a little less Freud in the book. I know that it was a psychological thriller, but I am afraid the expert
  13. That
  14. Lovely photo PP. Our crocuses are battered by the heavy rain we have had. A bit of sunshine should cheer them up.
  15. Yes I like gardening too. The ground here is very wet after all the rain we have had this spring, but thing are budding up. Our daffodils are not quite out yet but we do have one or two early tulips and the hellebores are looking fantastic. A trip to the Garden Centre is almost a therapeutic as a trip to a bookshop.
  16. Good list Kylie. I really enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird I have also read and enjoyed A Handmaid
  17. Great review Gyre. I read this book years ago, but it is not a book that you ever forget. It was the first book I had read by Margaret Atwood. I think she is a great writer. I think that Oryx and Crake is my favourite.
  18. PP Hope all goes well tomorrow. Will be thinking about you.
  19. Well I finished After You
  20. Will do, but I am so involved in the story I just want to read.
  21. I am loving it so far.
  22. Yes I can see what you mean, and I agree. The book was very slow at that point.
  23. I have now finished reading Perfume by Patrick Suskind. I enjoyed it very much. I am now reading After You
  24. Well I have finished reading Perfume. The descriptions of the smells are amazing. The mood created is particularly dark when Grenouille lived in Paris, but it is when he moves to the south of France that he really begins to work on his goal. He extracts scents through extreme violence, but we do not witness most of this: we hear of it second hand. Even the murders that we do witness are very cold and methodical. It would seem that in having this one great gift Grenouille has had to sacrifice all other feelings or values. He is certainly a man without a conscience. I really enjoyed this book and the ending is the most bizarre ending I have ever read.
  25. I have finished reading A Star Called Henry. It was very different from the other Roddy Doyle books that I have read. I am now starting on Perfume by Patrick Suskind. He is abandoned on the filthy streets as a child, but grows up to discover he has an extraordinary gift: a sense of smell more powerful than any other human
