  1. Unfortunately so do I Jules.
  2. As long as I can remember I have visited a local library. The library nearest to me at the moment is very small, but the ladies there are very nice and there usually is a big choice. I very rarely ask for a book to be reserved. I really should stop going for a while because I have so many books on my shelves.
  3. That sounds really tempting.
  4. I have more than 50 on my TBR pile, and I have told myself that I will not buy another book until I have read at least 10 of them. (The one that came from Amazon today does not count.)
  5. Oh Poppy! I remember Tripe. Yuk!
  6. I have quite a few rather large books on my shelf so I thought that I would join the challenge. I thought that I would include books with over 450 pages since these books look quite large to me. I don’t know if I will be able to read a large book every month but I will do my best to get through a few before the end of the year. So hear goes! January The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell 495 pages February None March The Interpretation of Murder by Jed Rubenfeld 529 pages April A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon 979 pages May Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood 542 pages June The Night Watch by Sarah Waters 475 pages July The Covenant by James Michener 1079 pages August Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J K Rowling 607 pages September Exodus by Leon Uris 626 pages October The Forest by Edward Rutherfurd 882 pages November ‘A Prayer for Owen Meany’ by John Irving 637 pages December 'Brick Lane' by Monica Ali 500 Pages
  7. Nici you garden looks great. You have worked wonders in such a short time. Well-done girl.
  8. I Like Kate Atkinson and have One Good Turn sitting on my shelf at the moment. I am looking forward to reading it.
  9. West Side Story made me cry when I was a young girl Carousel had the same effect.

  11. I have got stuck with Suite Fran
  12. I have Alias Grace on my TBR pile. Handmaid's Tale is great and The Robber Bride is pretty good, but my favourite is Oryx and Crake. I don
  13. I bought Narrow Dog to Carcassone - Terry Darlington last weekend at Tesco. I just fancied the look of it. It cost me
  14. I have The Abortionist's Daughter on my TBR pile. Hope it is good.
  15. I will PM you in the morning Paula.
  16. Have just shared a bottle of Concha y Toro Carm
  17. Thanks for the information Paula. I had not realised there were two films. You can have a loan of my copy of Lolita meantime if you want. I don
  18. I have not seen the movie, but certainly would like to now that I have read the book.
  19. Hi Paula I would recommend reading Lolita, but it can be depressing. I would also recommend reading Alexandra Fuller
  20. I did enjoy reading Lolita. Indeed Humbert was horrible. I felt the book gave an insight into the mind of a Paedophile. However there seemed to me to be more to this book since Humbert
  21. Hi PDR I have finished Lolita at last. To me it was a difficult read because of the subject matter, but I did like it. There is so much to take in really. I think I will have to re-read it.
  22. It has taken me a while but I eventually finished reading Lolita. I quickly got used to the style but I was pretty appalled at Humbert Humbert and so I could only read a little at a time. I am struggling to get the right words to describe this book. I enjoyed it but at times I hated it and it made me shiver. I am putting it in my to be read again pile. I am now starting on Suite Fran
  23. Hope you enjoy Oryx and Crake Aimz. It was one of my favourite reads last year.
  24. Maybe a cat brought him to your garden. Do you live near a river or something like that?
