Yes...I remember those strikes! And I made bread then too, but unfortunately it never worked properly as I used the airing cupboard too, and it just wouldn't rise!

Yeah, worse thing is when you're really getting into a book and you find its missing a couple of pages or you can't read some of them because they're stuck together
Especially if it's the last two pages! And I don't mind the odd pencil mark, but not great chunks all over the place, and only in ref books.

I seem to remeber that my old mixer (Krups) had dough kneaders - or whatever. If you don't have a comprehensive mixer that might solve space prblems and convince OH...two or three things for the price of one!
It's a thought.

This is a difficult one, because although I like my books to be in pristine condition, no book stays that way for long if it is read a lot. The fact that it is a bit dogeared means it is loved. There is nothing more sad than a shiny new book on the shelf which is shiny and new(untouched) because it has never been read (I'm excluding all those in TBR lists here). Books should be loved but not abused, is what I think I'm trying to say

Oh great! So it should be. Thanks for the info Janet. I bought a copy. Can't remember where from. It really is such a lovely little story.

Hi Davo. You've come to the right place. I came here just as I started reading again after a long break, thinking I would never get to grips with all the books out there, but nearly two years on, I'm still here, have read loads more and like everyone else have a to-be-read mountain which sticks out of the roof. So I'm sure you'll fit it.
Oh and great to have another person from Scotland
Enjoy!

I must admit to doing the same as Michelle. I usually manage to sell one book every four months on greenmet, so it's hardly worth the bother.
Louise and H&D, are you selling as private sellers on Amazon? I think I had an account there many moons ago. How does it work? I thought they were all traders...businesses.

Remind me not to click onto any more links from you, Andy. I have just been totally absorbed for the last hour, fascinated by the active map and quite enjoying the story. Certainly a change from my usual 'read'
Thanks for the link.

Hello and a warm welcome. Bleak House is a favourite of mine. Stick with it. Once you get into it you won't want to put it down.
Glad you've joined us. Enjoy

I've ordered Enchanted April from Greenmet. Mind I don't know when I'll read it...

I think you'd have to be a certain kind of person to be able to ghost write, not just to know that you'd miss the limelight, but to be able to work with people you didn't particularly like or respect...and yes, if you were able to you could refuse a job, but how many people are in that position.
I still think its an collaboration and each should get equal billing.

BTW where have your tulips gone, I loved them:blush:
I change my avatar every 100 posts, so it was time to change. This time I've put up a cropped version of one of my cards.
I'm really glad you liked the tulips

The thing is...why spite our own noses. Surely we should be campaigning for changes, not denying ourselves the pleasures of a magazine or particular food. The important thing is to get manufacturers to change. I suspect they are loath to change because of hygeine and H&S and any litigious law suits.

I shall put them on my long list of TBR . Hopefully sometime this year, as I'm aiming for 75 reads this year.

Well an hour later, I have returned after browsing the site Wicci suggested. Good one Wiccie. It also led me to a local forum which I have joined. So I'm forumed out!
I was going to make some bags anyway and have already bought the materials, so its just a case of getting down to it. We also use ASDA's bags, but are terrible at remembering to take them!

It's appalling. After reading your first post above, Supergran I decided not to watch as I can't bear to see such suffering. It upsets me for days after. We are trying to cut out as much plastic as poss and like F&C buy loose, but we really need the manufacturers to get on board. And how do these things get there in such quantities?
Isn't there a village in Cornwall or somewhere that is totally carrier bag free?

I cant pick just one either so here is my top 5, in no particular order:
Birdsong - Sebastian Faulks
The Woman in White - Wilkie Collins
Cold Comfort Farm - Stella Gibbons
Enchanted April - Elizabeth Von Arnham
The Unconsoled - Kazuo Ishiguro.
Well you have two of my all time favs on there, Cold comfort farm and Woman in white. Perhaps I should read your other choices...

Its on my TBR list, but it does sound a bit depressing. Will have to choose the right time to read it.

Oh my goodness, chick lit, git lit and then...???
Don't even go there!

Covers...back to the influence they have. Just been proved again. Publishers, take note!

Yes, or covers with handbags and shoes and lippy. Girly stuff in fact. For a definite market.
(That was the only thing I didn't like about Karma --- sorry Kerri:friends0:)

In case I miss you going, I'll say goodbye now, and thank you for taking the time to visit and answer our questions. I have three of your books in my bedroom, but not as yet The Surgeon, so that is on my shopping or borrowing list(anybody?)
Don't be a stranger Tess. We loved having you.

Hi Jude, (with a name like that, it had to be Hardy or the Beatles!) welcome. I'm sure you'll fit in, and get the hang of it in no time. Looking forward to chatting with you,

I think if the book belongs to you and you've written in it for study purposes, or if you've bought a secondhand book knowing it was written in, that's fair enough, but a library book that's written in is a no-no. People should have a little more respect.
