  1. Wow! There really is a lot of mixed feelings on this one, I'm with the people that liked it, and I like it more and more the more I think about it! .. I finished it a few weeks ago now but have been absent from the forum (stressy head again! when will it end!!). But I've been desperate to talk to someone about it! All spoileried up cos you never know! What do others think of my ramblings? Does this fit with how you see the story too? I kind of want to read it again so that I can find more things that cross over!!!
  2. I bought the Northern Lights trilogy in the beautiful collectors editions - I had to buy all three so that they would match, even though I've never read any of Phillip Pullmans books and don't know if I'll like them!!!
  3. hhmmmm... canabalism? I've just read the prologue... not sure I want to continue now!!
  4. Yay! It's great that other people like quotes as much as I do, I love the way some people have managed to capture something so beautifully and succinctly that just that sentance stands the test of time and can sum up perfectly the way you are feeling. The one below isn't like that, it just makes me chuckle! "My own business always bores me to death; I prefer other peoples" Oscar Wilde
  5. My friend while reading the paper said: "ooo (so and so's) dead... great! I can read his obituary!" Apparently he is a fan!! People have strange brains
  6. Wow thats really interesting! Thanks! I'm going to push the article around the people I know!
  7. I've really been enjoying reading a book of quotes lately, even just one a day, and I've even managed to use some in conversation! I thought it would be good to have a thread where we could share our favourite quotes, or something that speaks to you from your current read. I'm always stickering up my novels for the poignant sentances, that then just waste away on the shelf.. they deserve to be shared! So, for today, I've been in my book of quotes already and this is one of my favourites: "Happiness consists in activity - it is a running stream, not a stagnant pool" John Mason Good
  8. Yay! I can see it would be really useful when shopping, I always see things I want when buying for others!
  9. I thought it was just me!! I could get into my favourites by dragging and dropping it, but to get it onto my toolbar it was more difficult. Johnny right clicked on an existing link I had on the toolbar and selected properties. Then he right clicked on the librarything link and selected properties. On the 'general' tab for both you have the address (URL). He swapped the librarything link address for the other one and it worked easy peesy!! ...He also changed the name of the link to read Add to Librarything to stop confusion... I hope this helps! It was quite straight forward really, just not sure I explained it well!! Let me know how you get on. Of to read Russell now.. see you guys tomorrow xx
  10. yeah!!! I'm going to put on my calendar!! ..is it a new series? can't wait can't wait can't wait! ..to find out what on earth the ending of the last episode was about!!!!
  11. ..I've just been playing with the LibraryThing 'bookmarklet' ..you add it to your favourites, and when you're in amazon and find something you want, you can click it and it'll plop it into your catelogue! ...Librarything is amazing!!! number 7, in the tools tab
  12. O no! How awful!!! A tesco branded novel! ...I'll have to have a read next time I'm in tesco's ..much cheaper than buying another edition! ...thanks for looking it up Judy x
  13. Extra stuff!!! No!!! Like what?
  14. Great review Janet! I normally read this book before Christmas, but like Kylie, I ran out of time (..I may slot it in next week though as it makes me unhappy that I haven't read it!). I was talking about this book with a colleague today in particular with regards to the film adaptations. For me, strange as it may sound, I find the Muppets Christmas Carol closest to the book. I feell that the sets, and the characters themselves really are faithful to Dickins vision (in particular the ghost of Christmas present)...bearing in mind that I haven't read it for a year. My colleague heartily disagreed saying that the Alistair Sim one was more faithful (which I haven't seen). Do you think the Alistair Sim one is faithful to the book, or did they just make a good interpretation of it? Particularly, I'm thinking of Dickins' light humour. I'm interested to know your thoughts!
  15. really so soon?! oop... i guess i may join you when i put the rest of my books on!

  18. I've JUST discovered the news section!!! Previously I thought adding friends was a little pointless as you still had to nip over to their profile to view their catelogue... but I was mistaken!! you can just click on the news bit and it tells you what everyone else has been up to (mostly at the moment it says that a.book.in.the.life has added a million books! I bet you all knew this already but I'm sharing anyway as it makes it more fun!! ..it's the little icon to the right of 'member connections' and 'members with your books'
  19. I'm glad you liked it!!! ... I don't see how anyone could NOT blub.. it was soooo sad!!
