  1. US thriller writer James Patterson has retained his position as the most borrowed author from UK libraries. For full story click here The top-10 are... James Patterson Dame Jacqueline Wilson Daisy Meadows Nora Roberts Francesca Simon Mick Inkpen Josephine Cox Danielle Steel Janet & Allan Ahlberg Ian Whybrow I haven't read anything those authors apart from the Kipper books by Mick Inkpen! What about you - have you read these authors? Who would you have expected to be there? I'm surprised someone like Stephen King isn't on that list.

Hi Nici. I just wanted to send you a *hug* and say I hope you're okay after your dilemma. :friends0:

  3. I refer to your post about the Kindle.

  4. They definitely had a more gritty feel to them. I don't read a lot of chick-lit these days either - since I discovered here, in fact :D

Her first, Backpack, was very good (although it's several years since I read it now). Would you like to do a swap and try it? :)

  5. Threads merged. Sarah - I thought it was wonderful. I wasn't sure if he could improve on The Kite Runner - but for me, he did.
  6. I have moved your promotional post - please do not repost it.

    I will be in touch.

  7. I've had it on my Wishlist for some time, but I haven't got hold of a copy yet.
  8. LOL Raven - I was just about to get defensive about Stephen Fry until I scrolled down! Yup, Bill Bryson's another one I wouldn't mind sharing my lift with.
  9. Oooh, if you don't mind, that would be lovely - thanks. :D I really like her work.

Have you read her earlier ones - Backpack, Baggage, Cuban Heels...?

  10. Poor you. I'm so lucky that I can read on any transport without it making me feel sick. I always intend to read loads when I travel from Bath to London on the train, but I spend most of my time gazing out of the window at the scenery!
  11. I was just pondering over that one too, Kell. It looks really nice.
  12. There is one here which is by the same company, Nici, but a different design. You can search inside - does this look like yours?
  13. That's lovely, Nici. Are you disciplined enough to keep it going though? I really regret letting mine slip - I might try to start it again.
  14. Hmm - I saw a lovely one last week in a little caf
  15. Stephen Fry was who I picked too - he's wonderful!
  16. Lovely, thanks CB - I will add them to my Wishlist. INDIAN READS Keeping this post for future reference.
  17. INDIAN READS Posting this in here so that I don't forget to check these out! CB - if you happen to see this, are there any of the Ruth Prawer Jhabvala books that you'd specifically recommend? I've looked on Amazon and they seem to be largely out of print (but available from Marketplace) and there are quite a few titles by her.
  18. Oooh, thanks for those - I was only saying the other day that I'd like to read more books set in India - I'll be sure to check them out.
  19. I think this should be in the reading section of the board... I was greedy and went for Contemporary, Classics (although mainly 'modern' classics), non-fiction and young adult! It largely depends on my mood.
  20. Oh, I see what you mean now. I will investigate tomorrow as I'm off to bed now. Thanks - and goodnight. x

  21. These are far too sweet for me. I don't often have hot chocolate but if I do, I make it with Cocoa then I can add a minuscule amount of sugar! My son likes the normal Belgium chocolate one, and my daughter the white chocolate one though.
  22. Thanks. :) It's a proper photo - but it's not in my garden. Hubby and I went for a walk yesterday in the snow and that was down by the river. :) Not sure which words you mean have disappeared? Where are/were they?

  23. Janet

Nici - just read your post about your Grandmother. I feel for you - you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. The only thing I can say is do what your heart tells you to do. *BIG hugs* :friends0:

  24. Hi Paula. I'm good, thanks. :) Have finished a book today (I had a really lazy morning - Peter bought me a coffee up when he got up and I stayed in bed reading for aaaages!) - and this afternoon I've done lots of ironing and watched a DVD with Abi.

    How are you?

  25. I can't wait for Dawn French's autobiography to come out in paperback. Shame about Julie Water's one as you'd think it would be great too, but I guess being a funny person and a fab actress doesn't always make one a great writer. Her fiction book (I can't remember the name now) got an average of 1 star on Amazon, if I remember correctly!
