  1. Oh, that's a shame, but there is still a possibility you might find it.
  2. Thanks. I didn't see it until after I'd read the book either.
  3. I'm going to watch the last part this afternoon. It's sooooo good!
  4. I hope you enjoy them. It's a version of Pride and Prejudice done by the BBC starring (the yummy) Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. It's a fantastic adaptation.
  5. This afternoon I have been mostly... We went to Lyme Park which was the outside of Pemberley - you can see where Darcy and Elizabeth are walking above in this shot...
  6. Did it turn up, Noll?
  7. Sounds good to me!
  8. T'would be my pleasure. Of course, you'd have to get some false documents to prove you live in the county!
  9. I love yours, Hayley. Here is mine... We also get one a third of the size of this with a hole punched in it to put on our key-rings (if you're in the UK and shop in Tesco, it's like the Clubcard ones that go on key-rings), but sadly I've lost my one of those. (Mine is credit card shaped, not the funny shape the photo makes it look! )
  10. I've had these since before 2010! G K Chesterton - The Man Who Was Thursday H Rider Haggard - King Soloman's Mines Jane Austen - Sense and Sensibility John Wyndham - The Chrisalids John Wyndham - The Kraken Wakes Robert Louis Stevenson - Treasure Island Sebastian Faulks - On Green Dolphin Street Virginia Woolf - The Common Reader I'm not sure what it is about them! I intend to read Sense and Sensibility soon.
  11. Are you not talking to me, Willoyd?! Sorry, I missed your post, Thanks for your comment about my review. I will let you know what I think of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. I haven't managed to read any more of 'Wildfell Hall' today, Kay, but what I've reads so far has been very good.
  12. The Kindle is definitely helping - I've also downloaded loads and loads of free books! It's a good job I don't count them towards my 'to read' pile - that's only tree books!
  13. Oooh, I loved that, Alex. I hope you do too.
  14. Thanks.
  15. Sadly I gave up on I Do Not Come To You By Chance by Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani - it just wasn't engaging me. I'm about 10% of the way through The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë. I knew nothing of what this book was about before I started but it's a really easy read and I'm enjoying it. I hope to get stuck into it a bit today when I get in from work. I received my copy of The Descendants by Kaui Hart Hemmings from Amazon yesterday, which is my February book club book. I managed to find an edition without George Clooney on the front cover, so it's all good! Right, I'd better trudge to work in the dark and the snow!
  16. I had one of hers(?) but I think I gave it back to my Mum. I will have to see if she still has it. Thanks, Kay.
  17. I like the sound of the H E Bates one. I read The Triple Echo a few years ago - I seem to remember the ending of that one being unsatisfactory, not due to the ambiguity (I don't mind ambiguous endings at all) but I can't remember why now. I still want to read Love for Lydia at some stage.
  18. It's worth contacting Amazon about it - I've heard instances of them replacing Kindles when they're only just out of guarantee as a gesture of goodwill. It's worth asking.
  19. My husband can't stand Miranda! There is just something about her that makes him absolutely bristle! She is FAB in Call the Midwife though - which is back this Sunday! Happy reading 2013, Andrea.
  20. I don't understand why it should cost more over the phone -and especially not when done in person! I think having child cards is to prevent under 18s from taking out DVDs that are not age appropriate. I would never use the inter-library loan system for that reason - most books would cost far less than £8 to buy! My Mum rocks! There is a link on the Libraries West page - down at the bottom under useful resources that takes you to the relevant page.

    Bookie Mouse

That mouse has his book upside down. Silly mouse!
  22. I live in Bath and North East Somerset (formerly Avon, before that just Somerset!). The library catalogue that covers my library also covers Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset and South Gloucestershire. The 75p charge is only for books reserved online - if you try to do it via phone (or even in person!) it costs £1.50 for a book on an adult card! It costs considerably more to use an inter-library loan: You can also ask us to find some items from other libraries in the UK (this is known as an Inter-Library loan). There is an £8.00 search fee for this service, we cannot guarantee that the item you require will be found but the £8.00 charge will still apply. My Mum lives in Wiltshire so occasionally she's taken a book out on her card for me if it's not been available in the areas covered by my own authority.
  23. We have to pay for reservations in the UK too - it varies from county to county - in our county it costs 75p (€0.89 / $1.20) to reserve an adult book and 50p (€0.60 / $0.80) for a children's book.
  24. Why will Raven scoff at this?
  25. Did they say why they declined you? Outrageous!
