  1. I have a copy of Two Women by Martina Cole that does the same thing... It's in my collection as an oddity. Amazon should replace it for you.
  2. I was wondering if anyone else has read this one yet? I'm interested to know what other people thought of the dialect used throughout. Was I the only one to find it difficult to read and translate at the beginning and does it make it any easier if you are Scottish/Glaswegian?
  3. Eww No thanks Maureen! We had a lovely fried rice made by O's
  4. why do they have to make me swear though.?... I don't think a season has finished without many expletives escaping my lips
  5. I for one can't wait. If 15 (or so) people are willing to humiliate themselves on TV for my entertainment, I will watch. I don't read celeb magazines, I'm not remotely interested in celebrities and what they are getting up to. I'm especially not interested in any of the BB eejits that try to catapult themselves into the limelight once leaving the house, with their kiss and tell stories and semi naked photo shoots. I will, however, watch them dress up like chickens and nurse eggs or sit in cardboard boxes for several hours. Very funny IMO.
  6. I love reading the Jean Plaidy books too Tiger. She writes really well. To me, she has made history a lot more interesting.
  7. 1. The Bitch Goddess Notebook ~ Martha O'Connor Absolute Tripe 2. Lord of the Flies ~ William Golding Thanks to GCSE English I will never get this time back. I still didn't like it the 3rd time 3. Queen of the Tambourine ~ Jane Gardam This one wasn't finished 4. Little Face ~ Sophie Hannah Just a poor book, boring really 5. Perfume ~ Patrick Suskind I gave this book so many chances and kept reading until I gave up half way through, utterly pointless. Then they made a blasted film!
  8. Shows what they know then, the main character is called Fiona The point of the book isn't really the other characters, it's the effect their actions have on Fiona and the growing pains of being a teenager forced to deal with more than most. Stronger surrounding characters could possibly have detracted from the quiet introvert that she is.
  9. dunno, can't decide..... but I'm hungry.
  10. I will just admit outright I will probably end up watching this. No point in lying to myself and pretending I won't watch it.... I always get sucked in.
  11. I watched the first episode of this last night. I have to admit I feel like I've walked in on something half way through, although I'm sure if I persist it will improve. Very gritty so far.
  12. Well, thanks to work, that didn't take me long to finish at all. I've picked up the next book along now which is Broken Broken, Kelley Armstrong's sixth novel, marks the welcome return of kick-ass werewolf Elena Michaels. When the not entirely trustworthy half-demon Xavier calls in a favour, it seems easy enough - steal Jack the Ripper's 'From Hell' letter away from a Toronto collector who had himself stolen it from the British police files. But nothing in the supernatural world is ever as simple as it seems. When Elena accidently triggers a spell placed on the letter, she opens a portal into the nether regions of Victorian London. Toronto may be looking for a tourism boost, but 'Gateway to Hell' isn't quite the new slogan the city had in mind. With thieving vampires, killer rats and unstoppable zombies on the loose, Elena and the rest of her Pack have a lot on their hands. Oh, and then there's the small matter of Elena's pregnancy...
  13. Hello! Welcome to our humble abode
  14. Howdy!! Welcome to the forum, lovely to have you here.
  15. Hi and welcome! No need to be shy,
  16. I finished Nineteen Minutes the other night whilst there was nothing on TV. I found a great story and I enjoyed the read, as I always do with Jodi Picoult. However, I did have the ending pegged from very early on and I think this may have detracted from the effect she was trying to make with her book. I would still recommend this one to anyone, although I'd probably recommend some of her earlier stuff more. I was going to give Exit Strategy ~ Kelley Armstrong a go as it dropped through my letterbox this week. But I decided that I should finish the 'Women of the Otherworld' series before I start a new one, so I've picked up Haunted. Eve Levine - Half demon, black witch and devoted mother - has been dead for three years. She has a great house, an interesting love life and can't be killed again - which comes in handy when you've made as many enemies as Eve. Yes, the afterlife isn't too bad - all she needs to do is find a way to communicate with her daughter Savannah and she'll be happy. But fate - or more exactly, the Fates - have other plans. Eve owes them a favour, and they just called it in. An evil spirit called the Nix has escaped from hell. She feeds on chaos and death, and is very good at persuading people to kill for her. The Fates want Eve to hunt her down before she does any more damage, but the Nix is a dangerous enemy - previous hunters have been sent mad in the process. As if that's not problem enough, it turns out that the only way to stop her is with an Angel's sword. And Eve's no angel...

  18. I love these books. It's a really well told story from start to finish, although I have to agree about the last book being predictable. I have the Priestess trilogy on my bookshelf to read as well. Looking forward to starting those ones.
  19. Icanhasfriend :D

  20. 25 for me
  21. I had a giant hot dog and it was heavenly
  22. Thanks for that Kate, so far so good.
  23. I've finished Being Emily ~ Anne Donovan and have left my review in the review section and also with Library Thing. Have picked up 19 Minutes ~ Jodi Picoult as it has been waiting patiently for me to read it for some time now. Looking forward to this one, have already heard some good things about it. Sterling is a small, ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens -- until a student enters the local high school with an arsenal of guns and starts shooting, changing the lives of everyone inside and out. The daughter of the judge sitting on the case is the state's best witness -- but she can't remember what happened in front of her own eyes. Or can she?
  24. Rebecca ~ Daphne Du Maurier is one of my all time favourite books. I love this one. There's also a spin off book Rebecca's Tale ~ Sally Beauman which I read at the same time. Equally wonderful.
