  1. Glad to hear I'm not alone then. I hate giving up on books but I have so many books I know I'll enjoy waiting to be read, that I don't want to waste my time. Luckily for me, this doesn't happen too often.
  2. The Resurrectionist James Bradley Leaving behind his father's tragic failures, Gabriel Swift arrives in London to study with Edwin Poll, greatest of the city's anatomists. It is 1826. And the chance presents itself for Gabriel to find advancement and make a name for himself. But soon he finds himself tricked and drawn to his master's nemesis, Lucan, the most powerful of the city's resurrectionists and governor of its trade in stolen bodies. Dismissed by Poll, Gabriel descends into a hell partly of his own making and the violence of the London underworld. Here, he discovers a place where everything and everyone is for sale - a place where the taking of a life is easier than it might seem Started: 07/05/09 Finished: 07/05/09 Rated: 0/5 Comments: I gave this book ample chances but after the first 100 pages I decided to give up. It didn't interest me in the slightest and they way it's written just started to annoy me. Shame really, I was looking forward to this read.
  3. O's has made a pasta bake with meatballs and I made a Strawberry fool for dessert
  4. Thanks Mac! I only got through so many because I've had a week off work (and I do a lot of sneaky reading at work)
  5. Marshmallows For Breakfast Dorothy Koomson After Kendra Tamale returns to England from Australia, she rents a room from Kyle, a single father of two, and looks forward to an uncomplicated life. Kyle's young twins, Summer and Jaxon, have other ideas and quickly adopt Kendra as their new mother - mainly because she lets them eat marshmallows for breakfast. Even though Kendra is hiding a painful secret that makes her keep everyone - particularly children - at arm's length, life improves for her as she becomes a part of their family. Then Kendra bumps into the man who shares her awful secret and everything falls apart - especially when the kids are taken away by their mother. The only way to fix things is to confess all about her past, but that's something she swore never to do... Started: 28/04/09 Finished: 06/05/09 Rated: 3/5 Comments: Not a bad story. I can't help but feel I may have read it before or something very similar but that's not impossible with my memory. Tough subjects but dealt with in a way that doesn't bog you down with too much emotion.
  6. Cheese and tomato pizza (with a stuffed crust )

Started: 24/04/09 Finished: 28/04/09 Rated: 3/5 Comments: Quite a simple story and a very easy read. I wouldn't say it was the most captivating book I've ever read but you won't go wrong as a holiday read.
  8. Did anyone see last night? I'm starting to get a bit worried because I know there's not long left now. I think I may get withdrawal symptoms or need some therapy.
  9. They look great Kell! I'm still stitching but it's a slow progress at the moment as my hand keeps cramping up. Hopefully it'll get better soon and I can make some headway.
  10. I've changed it now so it shouldn't give anything away. My apologies for the spoiler, it wasn't intentional.
  11. My first Martina Cole book was Ladykiller and I haven't looked back from there. Her books are very gritty and will be a far cry from the Chick Lit books you are used too. However, if you can look past this, you won't be disappointed.
  12. Scream For Me Karen Rose The terrifying sequel to Karen Rose's brilliant DIE FOR ME. Daniel Vartanian is trying to come to terms with a chilling discovery. Photographs taken, and kept hidden, by his brother years ago, show a group of unidentifiable teenage boys raping young girls for fun. With his brother now dead, Vartanian is determined to find the girls and bring the rapists to justice. Alex Fallon is unable to forget her past. Her family fell apart when her sister was murdered and now with her step-sister Bailey's disappearance, history seems to be repeating itself. With Bailey's life in the balance and events escalating out of all control, Daniel and Alex will have to confront their pasts head-on if they are find the missing woman before it's too late. Started: 21/04/09 Finished: 23/04/09 Rated: 3/5 Comments: Another great read from Rose. I liked this one as it had some back story to it. (Sequel to Die For Me) Still similar themes to all the other stories and same kind of characters but the story is very good. She has some great ideas.
  13. I've been quite lucky the last week and I haven't had to take any painkillers. Which for me is quite impressive. I've been making an effort to keep myself hydrated and it's made a big difference for me. I just have to keep it up now.
  14. The Boleyn Inheritance Philippa Gregory From the bestselling author of 'The Other Boleyn Girl' comes a wonderfully atmospheric evocation of the court of Henry VIII, and the one woman who destroyed two of his queens. The year is 1539 and the court of Henry VIII is increasingly fearful at the moods of the ageing sick king. With only a baby in the cradle for an heir, Henry has to take another wife and the dangerous prize of the crown of England is won by Anne of Cleves. She has her own good reasons for agreeing to marry a man old enough to be her father, in a country where to her both language and habits are foreign. Although fascinated by the glamour of her new surroundings, she senses a trap closing around her. Katherine is confident that she can follow in the steps of her cousin Anne Boleyn to dazzle her way to the throne but her kinswoman Jane Boleyn, haunted by the past, knows that Anne's path led to Tower Green and to an adulterer's death. The story of these three young women, trying to make their own way through the most volatile court in Europe at a time of religious upheaval and political uncertainty, is Philippa Gregory's most compelling novel yet. Started: 18/04/09 Finished: 20/04/09 Rated: 4/5 Comments: This one started to ring bells with me almost straight away and I realised I had read it in 2007, however, I carried on and enjoyed it immensely once again. I love Gregory's books.
  15. I went to the seaside last week and had a banana ice cream. It was lovely I love banana flavoured things but have never seen a banana ice cream before. I was in my element.
  16. Great Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed the film. I might just go and see it.

  17. It did kind of kill off any enjoyment I got from the race. Although the toll has been less and less over the ladt few years. Still a shame though.
  18. My hunch fell at the 19th fench but O's backed My Will and we put the last couple of quid on Comply or Die. Money back at least on those.
  19. I've only had it twice, where there is a blurred spot in my vision. It's like a hole I can't see through. Both times my migraine has hit quite severely within 10-15 mins.
  20. I have held back recently after a few choice purchases from Hobbycraft and e-bay. There's only so much 'I wonder how that got there?' that I can do. I've very nearly finished my current Tatty Teddy bear and I'm hoping to make a start on the biscornu shortly, although I do have a wide array of things to choose from at the moment. BTW, back stitching is a pain in the rear!
  21. City of Dark Hearts James Conan It is 1893 and Anna Zemeckis, a young New Yorker, goes missing in America's most dangerous city: Chicago. Home to the World's Fair, Chicago is a city of glitz and razzmatazz - a city intoxicated by its own spectacular wealth - but beneath the sophisticated facade lies a sinister underworld of pornography, prostitution and violence. It's a lethal place for the weak or vulnerable - and Anna isn't the first young woman to disappear without trace. Emily Strauss, an inexperienced but ambitious reporter from the New York World, is given a treacherous assignment: to find out what happened to Anna, and to the other missing women. Against a punishing deadline, alone in a dangerous and unfamiliar world, she faces a near-impossible task. And, she soon discovers, a powerful enemy... Started: 26/03/09 Finished: 17/04/09 Rated: 3.5/5 Comments: I enjoyed the story in this book very much, although I did feel the writing style left a little to be desired. It felt like a bit of a slog at times but then other times I read much more than I would have anticipated. Some great characters that you could sympathise with and really get behind.
  22. Just wanted to send you some hugs.

  23. That's the one. I kept picking it up and putting it back down again in the shop. I still haven't managed to buy it.
  24. I've nearly finished reading Little Women and I wasn't aware there were any follow up books. I might just have to give these a go. I know there was a R&J book club book called March from a year or two ago and that was supposed to be from the point of Mr March, away at war.
