I think I might be on my own in thinking that the first two Discworlds were very enjoyable. They are a couple of my favourite Discworld tales. I can see, though, that they do not seem quite as 'polished' (if that is the right word) as his later books were.

Thanks for the kind offer, Gyre, but a friend of mine has a copy of the book so I am going to be able to borrow their's.
But thank you so much, Gyre.

I really feel that I should read this book. All of your comments are really encouraging me to give it a go.

I use dictionaries to look up words I come across whilst reading. I have several dictionaries spread throughout the house, so there is always one nearby.

I ended up reading five short stories featuring Jeeves;
~ Extricating Young Gussie
~ Leave It To Jeeves
~ Jeeves and the Unbidden Guest
~ Jeeves and the Hard-Boiled Egg
~ The Aunt and the Sluggard
They were all very good - I'm looking forward to reading the next batch of Jeeves stories.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Hello!

The Ghost is the first Robert Harris book I have read and I found it to be a fairly enjoyable book. It was quite fast paced and never really slowed down for that long. The story and characters were very obviously referring to the current political goings-on, so there were a few laughs here and there. I will definitely try another of Harris'.

Hello!

Whose line is it anyway: Normally catch it most week days on the wonderfully named "Dave" channel.
Me too! I love that programme and always try to watch the double episode each evening.

I bought REM's new album Live the other week.

Hello, Evelyn.

Soul Music was a fairly good Discworld tale. Not my favourite, but there were some very funny moments in the book. The wizards were in this one quite a bit, which I loved.

I've read Mysterious Affair as well, and I also found that it made me want to read other Poirot books. After reading the descriptions of Poirot, I think David Suchet was a brilliant choice to play the character. I'm glad you enjoyed the book.

It is very good, Kell. It's a lovely little story to fill an afternoon.

Ridcully looked around at the side. The handle seemed to be going up and down by itself.
'I'm not having this,' he muttered, 'not in my damn university.'

Hmm...it has taken me a little while to decide which book to read next, but I think I'll have a go at a Discworld.

Yes. There's a Death in the family. It's hard to grow up normally when Grandfather rides a white horse and wields a scythe - especially when you have to take over the family business, and everyone mistakes you for the Tooth Fairy. And especially when you have to face the new and addictive music that has entered Discworld.

One point that I feel might be in favour with starting at the beginning is that there is more explanation about the whole Discworld concept. Later Discworld books do have little bits of explanation here and there, but it tends to be slightly briefer (although not to the extent of being confusing).
To be honest, though, I don't think it really matters which book you being with. I have been reading them in publication order simply because I, too, felt it would be slightly strange starting a series half-way through.
I hope you enjoy them.
