  1. Anita's was dance of the night for me - so dramatic and passionate, and she didn't even break character when she was walking over to the judges - awesome! Peter's dance was a disappointment, but so was Jamelia's - she's been skating through by the skin of her teeth every week, and although she's definitely showed improvement, I'm glad Peter was saved this week - I actually quite like him and find him rather sweet (sometimes a little TOO sweet, but sweet nonetheless). I don't see him getting to the final though - Of the two guys left, I hope Jay makes it through - he's my favourite and I have a total dancer crush on him! Speaking of which, Jay was fabulous again this week - he always seems so shy when he's talking, but I think he really opened up doing that dance and he's gaining confidence at last. I can't warm to Helen - she's a good dancer, but I find she sets my teeth on edge a little. I love watching Georgia dance, but her little-girl giggling drives me round the twist. I love Kellie and Kevin together, but I didn't think their dance was all that great this week, and her costume was abysmal. I'm finding it incredibly difficult to call who'll be next out as everyone who is left are very good. I've just realised I forgot about Katie. She's another one I can't quite warm to - she always looks like she's looking down her nose at everyone. Much as I like Anton, I hope she's next out, as her incredibly fake smile always looks like it's trying (and not managing very well) to hide her seething anger and contempt. Like I said, it's difficult to call, but I think it'll be Katie out next week, followed by either Peter or Helen, then it'll be Kellie after that, leaving Georgia, Jay and Anita for the final. I have an inkling Georgia will win it overall, but I'd LOVE to see either Jay or Anita take home the trophy!
  2. Overall, I thought it a bit of a non-descript week with very little in the way of stand-out moments. Some more really odd music choices - someone on the show needs to get their head in gear, because if the music isn't right, the dance won't work even half as well. I think Georgia must be about favourite to win at this point -her Charlsetsone was fabulous, and such a great choice of music (I'm a HUGE Chicago fan, btw!). Such a shame about Jay's little stumble, because until then, he was doing magnificently, and I think it knocked him a little, even though he recovered well. I wasn't surprised at the bottom two, and agree that, much as I loved Jeremy, it was time for him to go. That said, I think it'll most likely be Jamelia's turn to leave next week, as she's definitely the weakest of those left. After that, it'll get way tougher to call.
  3. Minced meat and sausage meat are two completely different things. Minced meat tends to be very small pieces of meat (I think Americans call it ground - I could be wrong though) and is just meat put through a mincer with nothing added. Sausage meat tends to be smoother and has other things added to it, such as herbs, spices, rusk, breadcrumbs, and the like, to fill it out and make it more flavoursome. On the pigs in blankets thing, my Auntie Lynn makes GIANT ones at Xmas - full sized sausages wrapped in bacon - she calls them hogs in duvets - LOL!
  4. Nah, pigs in blankets are little sausages wrapped in bacon. Delish!
  5. Before I start dissecting this week's dances, let me start by saying, I'm a HUGE fan of Jay - I've developed rather a nice little crush on him and every week I wish I was dancing with him. <3 Anyway, on to this week's dancing... Peter & Janette - Charleston - Do Your Thing Wowza! Was Peter back on form or WHAT?! There were a couple of times where they weren't perfectly synchronised, but only by a fraction, and such energy! Oh, my Gods! I actually applauded when they were done, I was so blown away, Very richly richly deserved tens in his scores. My favourite dance of the night! Jamelia & Tristan - Viennese Waltz - Trouble I actually rather liked this. I'm not a huge fan of Jamelia, but she's definitely improving, and her hard work is paying off. Once we get rid of the last few duffers, she's going to have a hard time staying in, though, because I don't think she's particularly popular with the public, nor is she the greatest dancer. That said, I enjoyed watching this. Carol & Pasha - American Smooth - Man! I Feel Like A Woman! Worse and worse! Every week she comes on the screen, all smiles and lovliness (too good to be true, to be honest), and every week she stomps her way around the dancefloor with zero style or grace. This week, most of the dance time was actually taken up with walking across the floor, then sitting on the counter, then faffing about with boxes, then going behind a screen before they even started dancing, and then the dancing she DID do was bloody awful! Hated it from start to finish. Helen & Aljaž - Rumba - Hello I don't like the rumba - I find it a very nondescript kind of dance, but I actually loved this one (I know, I couldn't believe it myself!). The choreography actually reminded me of stuff we used to do in some of our dance shows in my old theatre company. She's such a good dancer, though, and this style really suited her. Aljaž is also one of my favourite dancers - I always love watching him. Jay & Aliona - Argentine Tango - Diferente HELLO! I adore the AT and I adore Jay. AT+J=HOT! I don't agree with what some of the judges were saying about his lack of characterization - I thought he looked incredibly intense - my heart was fluttering like crazy while I watched him! Katie & Anton - Quickstep - 42nd Street This actually worked quite well for Katie - she's definitely better off with ballroom than Latin (but then, so is Anton, I think!). Kind of middling for me, in terms of the dances throughout the evening, but she acquitted herself well. Anita & Gleb - Jive - The Boy Does Nothing Very good! I love watching Anita dance - I reckon she can turn her hand (or her feet!) to just about anything. Her knees could have come up a bit higher, which would have looked more energetic, but overall, a strong performance and some great choreography. Kellie & Kevin - Waltz - Love Ain't Here Any More This was just lovely, Kellie seems to pick up the new dances with ease each week. She works hard and her efforts show in some lovely execution. Like Len, I was impressed with her heel turns (I noticed them right off and know how difficult they are!), and once again their synchronicity was brilliant - they evidently work really well together, because it's like they were made to dance together. Jeremy & Karen - Tango - Go West Once again we were saddled (I'm so sorry!) with a whacky concept to disguise a little of the downpoint of one of the duffers. That said, Jezza has definitely improved from the first few weeks of EDD (Embarrassing Dad Dancing). I did, however, wish he would straighten his legs a little more, because it sometimes looked like he was half-waddling with those lanky legs of his! I've never been a fan of him, but he's grown on me immensely during his time on Strictly, and I will genuinely be sad when it's his turn to go (I don't think he'll make it to Blackpool). Georgia & Giovanni - Samba - Volare A lot of faffing around at the beginning with the concept setting, but then - BAM! How fast was that? They shot across the dance floor like a speeding bullet and then kept up the pace for the whole dance! She's not my favourite (I find her very annoying, and her acting in the VT sections is always appalling - how on earth does she have an acting career?!), but I do love watching her dance, and she's well partnered with Giovanni. DANCE OFF OMGs! Strictly shocker! How on earth did Kellie end up in the dance of??? I can only imagine that the voting public reckoned she was safe, and so didn't vote for her at all. It was a shame because she did NOT deserve to be there, and it was immediately evident that unless someone like Helen was the other person in the dance off, she wouldn't be going home. Thankfully, the voting public saw sense and put Carol in the dance off, so she immediately knew she'd be going home, because there was NO WAY the judges would keep her over Kellie (and rightly so!). So, it was a long-overdue good bye to Carol, and a big sigh of relief from me, as she was th eone who really deserved to go this time. On a side note, I was so happy for Jamelia being safe this week - her reaction in the lounge when she got through was the first time I've actually liked her - she seemed genuinely surprised and chuffed to bits! PREDICTIONS FOR COMING WEEKS: Jeremy won't make it to Blackpool - I think he'll be out next week. After that, it'll be a toss up between Jamelia and Katie to see which of them goes home first. Once those three are out, it's going to be VERY hard to call, because it'll be the good dancers starting to leave!
  6. The Stand is one of my all-time favourite books. Another with HEAPS of characters is Maia by Richard Adams - that's a bug chunky book too.
  7. Me! I've read the first five books and I'm a massive fan of the TV show too.
  8. I've not read any of Kelley Armstrong's more recent stuff. I read all the Women of the Otherworld series, the Nadia Stafford books, and The Darkest Powers trilogy, but I haven't read anything of hers since then, which is surprising, really, because she's one of my favourite authors of this ilk. I really must get back to her...
  9. Argentine Tango is the favourite in our house - can't wait to see Jay do that one - HOT!!! I usually LOVE Halloween week (I just adore Halloween full stop, so I get a bit excited!), but overall, I found this year's rather disappointing... Katie & Anton - Paso Doble - Phantom of the Opera What a mess! I think it's right what was said earlier in the thread - Anton has been stuck with the duffers for so long, he's forgotten how to do it, He's also better with the ballroom over the Latin dances, and the slower the better. This PD was just awful from start to finish. Kirsty & Brendan - Charleston - Bad Romance I love this version of the song (very Post Modern Jukebox, who I adore!), but this dance just wasn't all that. I didn't enjoy it at all. To be honest, I really don't like Kirsty much - she's so po-faced all the time. Jeremy & Karen - Salsa - Thriller Let's be honest, Jeremy can't dance, but he's very entertaining to watch. I've never liked the guy, but I've warmed to him significantly through Strictly. This wasn't a great dance for him, but he is actually improving a little. I don't think he'll last much longer in the competition, but there is still at least one dancer in the pack who is worse than him, so he might last another week or two yet. Anita & Gleb - Waltz - Once Upon A Dream This. Was. AWESOME! I've never seen such a dramatic waltz! The only problem for me was the under-arm stuff, as the horns got in the way, but there were some seriously fabulous moves in there and they danced it very well indeed. This was probably my favourite dance of the night! Jamelia & Tristan - Jive - Time Warp This wasn't all that bad, to be honest I don't really rate Jamelia, but she didn't deserve to be in the dance off, and the moment Bruno said that on Sunday night, I knew that whoever went up against her was going out. Not brilliant - she's not the greatest dancer - but again, she is improving bit by bit. Jay & Aliona - American Smooth - Li'l Red Riding Hood I'm not a huge fan of the American Smooth, but I really enjoyed this. I couldn't believe these were Jay's first lifts, but he did them so well. I LOVE watching him dance, and freely admit that every week, I wish it was me up there dancing with him. And he looks SO much better since he cut his hair. I think I'm actually developing rather a crush on him! Aliona is a great choreographer, and I love that she has a capable dancer partner to let her showcase her abilities. Kellie & Kevin - Paso Doble - Hedwig's Theme/School's Out I really didn't enjoy this one at all - far too stompy with lots of clambering about on tables rather than focusing on actually dancing. A shame, because Kellie is very good, and she's well-matched with Kevin (who is one of my favourites of the pro dancers). The character concept didn't work for me here either. Carol & Pasha - Rhumba - I Think I Love You I really don't like the rhumba - it's a nothingy dance and there are precious few who do it well. Carol is not a good dancer and this was pretty bad. It deserved the very low score, although I think the judges are being harsher this ear than they were last year. I really thought she'd be in the dance off this week, but her popularity saved her once again. It can't last much longer though. Georgia & Giovanni - Tango - Ghostbusters This pair are seriously good together, and the choreography here was pretty damned good, as was the execution. I can see them going all the way to the final with ease. Peter & Janette - Foxtrot - Ghost The foxtrot is a difficult dance, but I thought Peter handled it rather well. He really needs to change things up a bit though, so I think doing the charleston next week will give him ample opportunity to do that. I expect to be wowed next week! Helen & Aljaž - Samba - Take Your Mama I loved how this began, with the twitchy, stiff mummy movements that then ground down into the samba. Great choreography and an accomplished performance. DANCE OFF: I really thought it would be Carol and Kirsty in the dance off (I get the feeling Katie isn't very popular - I certainly don't like her much), so I was surprised when Jamelia faced her THIRD dance off, when it was so undeserved! When they did their dances again, I thought Jamelia did better and deserved to go through, but Kirsty made LOADS of mistakes and danced half-heartedly at best, not completing moves or giving any flow. She knew she was going out and was p*ssed off about it, but she was the one who deserved to go out of the two in the dance off. I'm not surprised she was visibly angry though, as Carol should really have been out this week - she was dire! Once Carol, Jeremy and Jamelia are out it's going to get much tougher to call it!
  10. Re-reading Maia by Richard Adams.
  11. I'm actually almost finished mine! I only need to get half a dozen things now, and finish off half a dozen hand-made items, then I'm good to go GOing to start wrapping things very soon, and I plan on writing out my Xmas cards next weekend!
  12. Anyone else carved a lantern or got dressed up? This is our pumpkin lantern this year: And I'm all dressed up like The Corpse Bride to greet our Trick or Treaters: My boys are all dressed up and are out trick or treating with Hubby:
  13. Jamelia didn't deserve to be in the dance off tonight. Ainsley did. Thr right person went home. Sad to see him go, but he was the one who deserved it most, I thought.
  14. Georgia & Giovanni - Salsa - You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) I'm not a fan of the disco salsa numbers. I'd much rather have something with a Latin beat for this dance - if that makes me a traditionalist, then so be it, but I do, Even something like Shakira would be better than the disco stuff they're using most of the time now. That said, this was OK. Not as good as I had expected from them, but decently enough performed. Not their best dance, though. Carol & Pasha - Viennese Waltz - I've Been Loving You Too Long Carol's definitely improving. She's still not a good dancer (and I suspect that even a century of lessons won't ever make her good), but she puts her heart into it and tries her hardest every time. I've never been a fan of hers (I find her perpetual chirpiness very annoying), but she always takes the judges' criticism with such grace that I can't help warming to her a little more each week. Anita & Gleb - Tango - Sweet Disposition What is it with the nambypamby music choices for strong dances like the tango and paso doble this season? There was next to no power in the music for such a passionate dance, that said, they coped with it a hell of a lot better than last week's U2 paso doble disaster. Still not a stand out dance for me, but one of the better efforts of the evening. Peter & Janette - Rhuma - Thinking Out Loud The rhumba is probably my least favourite dance - it never seems to know what it is, really. However, I thought Peter handled it quite well and did better than most would expect. Kirsty & Brendan - Viennese Waltz - This Year's Love A great improvement on last week. She's still not a great dancer (and, like Carol, I don't think she ever will be), but she's definitely showing a little more potential with the ballroom dances than she has with the Latin dances to date. Surprisingly high scores, but more enjoyable to watch than she has been in previous weeks. A lot of time was wasted with coming down the stairs at the start nd going up again at the end though - I wish they would jut dance! Ainsley & Natalie - Jive - Shake, Rattle and Roll I hate it when they overdo the concept. Faffing about with the pots and pans at the beginning takes time away from the actual dance. Then again, this was dire from start to finish. Ainsley's neck all but disappeared for the entire dance. Every week he gets told about his shoulders, but it doesn't seem to make any difference (I'm predicting he'll be in the dance off, and deservedly so!). If he doesn't drop his shoulders, I'm going to go to the studio and sit on them - let's see if he can keep them up with THAT weight on them - LOL! Jamelia & Tristan - Foxtrot - Because You Loved Me Not the best dace (she definitely looks more at home with the Latin dances), but I thought she did OK. A bit nondescript overall, but passable. To be honest, the foxtrot isn't one of my favourites, and I know it's a difficult dance to do, so managing not to look absolutely dreadful is a feat in itself. Katie & Anton - Salsa - It Had Better Be Tonight What happened with Katy and Anton? No hips, missteps all over the place and she just didn't trust him for the drop holds either. It was awful from start to finish! What a shame after last week's triumph! This could mean a dance-off position for them. Jeremy & Karen - Waltz - She I actually thought Jeremy did really well with this. Again, he's not the greatest dancer, but he tries hard and he always enjoys it, and it was very obvious that he was enjoying this dance. Unfortunately, it's very clear the judges do not like him much - I don't think he deserved to be bottom of the leader board, and I sincerely hope the public vote is enough to keep him out of the dance-off. I think that was Jeremy's best ballroom so far! I thought he held his frame very well throughout too, so it was a shame to see him scored so harshly! I've never been a fan of his, but I was actually cheering for him and shouting "Boo!" at the judges who I thought were unnecessarily mean to him. Helen & Aljaž - Quickstep - You Can't Hurry Love What the hell was that wiggly feet nonsense Aljaz did? I didn't like it at all - I love the quickstep, but that wasn't as good as I expected. Too much faffing around before they even started dancing, and then just not as good as I thought. It's well seen who the judges like though... It didn't warrant any 9s as far as I'm concerned. Personally, I expected a point less from each of the judges. Jay & Aliona - Paso Doble - It's My Life Did anyone else wish they were dancing with Jay last night? I know I did! I couldn't believe he didn't score more highly than he did! To be honest, I wouldn't have been surprised to see 9s across the board, or even a 10 in there again! I thought he had very good, strong lines and shapes, and unlike some of the judges, I thought he did very well with the characterization of the dance. I really, REALLY want him to win this year! This was the dance of the night for me! And Bruno said a rude word on live TV on the BBC!!! Kellie & Kevin - Jive - One Way Or Another This is a very well matched couple - they had very good timing and well matched lines throughout. Not the most adventurous or best jive I've seen on the show (hello, Jay a couple of weeks ago in movie week!!!), but a strong performance. Overscored in comparison to Jay's dance, I thought, though. Dance off I'm predicting Ainsley and Katie to be in the dance off tonight. Of the two, I think Ainsley should be the one to go. Desperately hoping Jeremy escapes the dance off this week though! Looking forward to Halloween week next weekend!!!

    Sherlock

Apparently the Sherlock Xmas special will be broadcast on New Years Day. I am very excited about this. Apparently it will also be simultaneously broadcast in various cinemas around the country. Essentially, people can go and pay to see it in the cinema, when they've already paid their TV license and can therefore watch it at home without paying any extra money. What kind of insanity is this? I can understand cinematic showings of theatrical productions (as they did with Frankenstein, coincidentally, a production starring Benedict Cumberbatch), as not everyone can make it to wherever they're putting on the play, but when it's something that's being broadcast directly into your living room, why would you leave your home and pay extra money to watch it elsewhere? I just don't get it. I am very excited about the special, but not excited enough to go and see it at a cinema, because that would just be silly!
  16. If I'm reading my Kindle, I tend to keep it portrait-wise unless I've been sent something for review which has tiny text and doesn't enlarge within the page properly, then I'll switch to landscape, but I don't like it much that way. The case I have on my Kindle folds out to be a stand, so I can prop it up on the table in front of me and just click the button to the next page without having to hold it, so great for lunchtime reading on the rare occasion I'm alone - LOL! I also have the Kindle app on my phone, which is very handy if I'm out and about because it automatically syncs to where I'm up to when I open it up, and because it's back-lit (which my Kindle isn't), I can read in bed at night without disturbing Dale, which is also very handy!
  17. One of my good pals is in the Wilkinson's advert for their Halloween stuff. The dark haired lass right at the start is my pal, Jenn, and the lad in front of her is one of her sons. They both appear repeatedly throughout the advert, along with her other son, who first shows up to show Grandpa the scar on his arm. I was chuffed to ribbons when I saw them in it! She's always loved Halloween too.
  18. Still gutted at the loss of Forever - I really liked that show, Have given both Scream Queens and Minority Report a try, but was disappointed in both.
  19. Today is the future day that Marty McFly travels to in Back to the Future Part II. After today, that film is officially set in the past! Feels kind of weird to have finally hit Future Day. I'm celebrating by watching the movies and 30-year celebration shows on telly.
  20. It speaks volumes that the second most scary monster is the Grand High Witch from The Witches by Roald Dahl - a book aimed at children. Dahl never shied away from giving kids the really good scary stuff! Personally, I've always found the more subtle monsters the scariest - the ones who hid behind a good looking face and look like normal people but who are psychotic, murderous, and pure evil on the inside.
  21. OK, so week four was full of surprises! Here's what I thought of it: Anita & Gleb - Samba (Hips Don't Lie): This was pretty good. As one of the judges said (was it Craig?), she had very good isolations, which is all important for this dance, and her stamina has much improved. She's not the best dancer of the crop, but she's come from a strong starting point and is improving week on week. Could she be this year's Caroline Flack? Time will tell... Daniel & Kristina - American Smooth (Fly Me To The Moon): Daniel isn't bad at the smooth ballroom type dances, and this was a fairly good, if safe, routine, which was performed very nicely. There haven't really been any risks taken in his routines, and he needs to work on being punchier in some areas, but for this dance, it worked well, and there were some nice lines and visuals. I didn't think he deserved to go to the dance off at all. Kirsty & Brendan - Paso Doble (Beautiful Day): Who in their right mind thought this would a good music choice for this dance? No passion, no strength, and no rising progression to the music, which meant the same for the performance. Weak music choice, weak choreography and weak execution. She deserved to go to the dance off. Georgia & Giovanni - Quickstep (Reach): These two are pretty well matched and always seem to have a good time together. It was a fast-paced routine and nearer the end it almost looked like she was having to run to keep up with him, but overall, a strong performance once again. Jeremy & Karen - Jive (Splish Splash): OMGs, just NO! That man should never do the twist - he looked like he was constructed entirely of elbows and knees. I really wish they wouldn't keep pushing the themes on the dances so much, as the concept often tips the dance over into the absurd, which is did in places here. I fully expected him to be in the dance off, and was very surprised they got through safely! Kellie & Kevin - Foxtrot (Dream A Little Dream Of Me): These two are great. They both have such cheeky wee faces and are obviously enjoying working together, and whatever they're doing, it works, so they should keep doing it! I loved the story behind the vintage look of the costumes and dance - in this case it worked for them, rather than against. The foxtrot is a difficult dance to get right, so to do so well in week four with it is a feat in itself and speaks volumes as to how good Kellie is already! Jamelia & Tristan - Charleston (Straight Up): OMGs, what a transformation! This is more what I expected from Jamelia, and I've been dismayed in previous weeks to see her looking clunky and unnatural at every step, but she really came into her own this week. A cracking routine with a fabulous flip! I also loved the musical arrangement for this dance - very Postmodern Jukebox. Jay & Aliona - Quickstep (My Generation): What a shame! A mistimed step, then a stumble, then a skid - all were completely unexpected and brought the score down accordingly. A pity, because the routine was very challenging, and other than those three little instances, he executed it very well. Carol & Pasha - Paso Doble (España cañí): I was dreading seeing this, but was pleasantly surprised! Such a vast improvement on previous weeks, this was the first time Carol fully deserved to go straight through safely. Not the best PD I've seen, but better than Kirsty and Brendan's, that's for sure! Ainsley & Natalie - Waltz (What A Wonderful World): Not bad at all! After all the daft posturing that comes with his larger than life personality, I worried that he wouldn't be able to translate to something as elegant as a waltz, but he did it pretty well (although his face looked a bit smirky, rather than serene). Helen & Aljaž - Salsa (Dr. Beat): Is there nothing she can't dance? Once again, Helen sparkled on the dance floor! She has a natural ease of movement that comes through so well, and she was able to portray sultry heat far better than I imagined. Well done! Peter & Janette - Tango (Blue Monday): My first reaction was that this was a really odd choice of music for the dance, but it actually worked rather well, and Peter was back on form again this week, with a very strong performance. Hell, I wanted to dance with him myself! I hope he continues to set the bar high for himself, because he's very good! Katie & Anton - Viennese Waltz (If I Can Dream): Oh, WOW! This was just wonderful from start to finish! And I was over the moon for Anton who is clearly delighted to have a good dance partner for one, and to be at the top of the leader board for once - and deservedly so! DANCE OFF: I was shocked that Daniel was in the dance off, when I thought he had done rather well, and then even more shocked when he was the one unanimously voted off! There have been rumours that Kristina has been badmouthing him, so I wonder if something was said along the lines of she'd really rather not continue working with him and could he please go? It certainly smelled fishy to me, especially as I thought Daniel improved on his performance of the previous night, whereas Kirsty went the other direction, and almost got whacked in the face by Brendan in the closing drop. I'm actually very sorry to se Daniel go and Kirsty stay, and I feel very strongly that the result should have been the reverse!
  22. It's just over two weeks to Halloween - is anyone else as excited as I am? I ADORE Halloween - every year I look forward to getting into the spooky spirit. Unfortunately, I'm married to someone who doesn't really "get" Halloween, so I have to tone things down a little. This ear, however, BOTH our boys are old enough to be taken trick-or-treating, so Dale will be taking the boys out while I stay home and dole out the treats to the tricksters who come to the door. And, yes, I'll be getting dressed up! Of course I am! This is ME we're talking about here - LOL! I'll be getting dolled up as the Bride of Frankenstein (I've just been colouring in wooden "bolts" silver to stick to my neck with eyelash glue). I've already gathered all manner of treats - of course there are sweeties, but there will also be some fruit and lots of little toys too (think the kind of stuff you get in party bags - crayons, plastic animals, novelty erasers, bouncy balls that look like eyeballs etc), as a lot of kids around our way have food allergies and we know of at least one kid with diabetes and we wouldn't want anyone to feel left out. I've also prepared a load of "dares" which will be printed on slips of paper. Kids can take one treat from the bowl, or they can do a dare and take two treats for their troubles. It's all stuff like sing a nursery rhyme, tell a joke, pull a funny face, etc, so lots of funny little things for them to do and have a giggle. And I can hardly wait to carve our pumpkin! Last year we couldn't get hold of a pumpkin, so we carved a large watermelon instead and it looked awesome - all dark green and glowing pink inside! I liked it so much, I might do that again this year regardless - LOL! And I have some stickers to put up in the window that look like spiders and bats. I might also get some crime scene tape to put up as we have scaffolding around our house right now (the facade is being re-rendered), so that would look pretty cool! Is anyone else doing anything for Halloween? Please don't tell me I'm the only one who goes a bit loopy at this time of the year!
  23. I just got caught up with the most recent two episodes of Doctor Who and was flabbergasted to see someone I know in them! The guy playing Pritchard is Steven Robertson who I know from my acting days - I even typed some of his college work for him (he's very dyslexic and his voice recognition programme on the computer wasn't decyphering his thick Shetland accent very well) - he's such a nice guy and I love seeing him cropping up in things!
  24. I LOVE MOVIES WEEK!!!!! Here's my take on this week's dances... Carol & Pasha - Quickstep - Very dull, to be honest. I'll be honest, I don't like her much anyway (I find her very annoying), and her dancing is very much below par. I thought she was very lucky to not be in the bottom two (I think her popularity is keeping her in, rather than her dancing skills, because she has none of those!). Anthony & Oti - Paso Doble - I was expecting him to be out this week and I was right. His lack of movement in the right arm was becoming more and more obvious, and it was hampering what little skill he had (which wasn't great to begin with, to be honest). I really think that he should have stepped out of the competition before it even started and let someone else have the spot, because with a shoulder injury like that, you're not going to be able to do the moves required of you. It was right that he go early on. Katie & Anton - Cha-Cha-Cha - This one was very disappointing, and as Anton rightly said, the lack of content was entirely on him, but she didn't dance this one particularly well either. I'm hoping for better next week. Kellie & Kevin - Charleston - I absolutely LOVED this one! The Cantina music was so perfectly suited to the Charleston and they danced it so well - they are so well suited to one another, which was evident in how well they moved together with such great timing. First good dance of the evening! Energetic and spirited. I fully expect to see Kellie in the final. Ainsley & Natalie - Cha-Cha-Cha - I REALLY didn't like this one - I think it was largely ruined by the penguin concept, which was a shame. I like Aisnley, and I think he'll stay in for quite a while due to popularity, but once it gets down to the better dancers, he won't stand a chance. Right now it's his personality that's keeping him in there, rather than his dance skill. He actually has really good rhythm, so I hope he'll start stepping up the moves and let that be the focus, rather than his massive personality. Georgia & Giovanni - Rumba - I really like how these two move together, but they didn't actually do much in the way of a rhumba. And I wish Giovanni would stop shaking his head when the judges speak - I find it rather disrespectful. There were some VERY slick moves and it was skillfully done, but I wish Giovanni had shaved - Bond is a smooth, clean-shaven character! Helen & Aljaž - Foxtrot - I loved this one. Helen is another contender for the final, in my opinion, and I thought she pretty much embodied Marilyn perfectly. This was a wonderful dance to watch - she was rather breathtaking! Daniel & Kristina - Cha-Cha-Cha - I felt really quite uncomfortable watching this - the cahracter was all wrong for him and he came across as rather sleazy and slimy, which is a shame, because his footwork is pretty good. I hope they don't give him this kind of character again in future! He does have to step things up a bit though, as one of the judges rightly said, he's a bit samey... And it looked like Kristina almost broke her ankle doing the splits - very ungainly getting back up from that, but she soldiered on with what must have been quite a painful injury! Kirsty & Brendan - American Smooth - This one was kind of middling for me. There were some nice lifts (despite the slight wardrobe malfunction), but she's a little unsteady on her feet at times and that's really going to show up when it comes time to do things like the Argentinian Tango, if she makes it that far... Peter & Janette - Paso Doble - This one was a little disappointing for me. I think because he had such a strong start with the first two weeks, I was expecting more this week too. The character wasn't really right for a Paso Doble, as Cptn Jack Sparrow is a laid back kind of guy (ie so drunk he's practically horizontal). His shapes weren't quite strong enough either, but part of that could have been costuming - you really need clear lines for this dance. It was still very good, but not as good as I had expected. He's still my third pick for the final. Jamelia & Tristan - Salsa - Is it just me, or does Jamelia have absolutely no flexibility in her mid-section? She can't seem to move her hips, twist her waist, or bend backwards even a little, making her moves very stiff. I don't enjoy watching her dance, as she seems kind of heavy-footed and clunky a lot of the time too, which has surprised me a great deal. I had kind of assumed that, as a singer, she would have some kind of dance ability. I was wrong. She's also very inelegant when getting up from the floor - I just don't like her moves at all! Jeremy & Karen - Charleston - I was expecting another slightly embarrassing performance here, but he surprised me and actually came across very well! The dance was well choreographed and he did the moves rather well. I'm not a fan of his, but I found myself cheering for him come the end, as I was so pleased he'd found his dance! The Charleston can be a difficult dance for a man, as it's hard to look good when the characters are usually so cheeky and silly (girls can at least look cute, but guys can easily look foolish and out of place), but he pretty much nailed it! Anita & Gleb - American Smooth - This one was so beautiful to watch! Some really bold moves that were executed with smooth style and panache. I don't think she'll get to the final, but she could well be in the semi final! The only bit I didn't like was the bit where he crawled over her - that looked rather naff and just not in fitting with the rest of the dance. Jay & Aliona - Jive - BRAVO! I almost gave him a standing ovation right here in my living room! He absolutely SMASHED it! So energetic and daring and just plain brilliant. He's my fourth tip for the final, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him win it. In fact, I'd LOVE to see him win it! DANCE OFF: It was only fair that Anthony be the one to go. Although both he and Ainsley improved for the dance off, that shoulder injury was his biggest weakness and was always going to hold him back. Of the two dance-off performances, Aisnley's was the greatest improved, so I was glad he was the one who stayed.
  25. I was in floods when Nadiya won it - so very well deserved! We've loved this series of GBBO - brilliant from start to finish. On a side note, hubby and I said Nadiya was going to win it in the very first episode, before they'd even started baking!
