  1. So this is my collection so far.. So far, I love what I've read of The Sandman.. it's very dark and weird, just the sort of thing I like. It's one I can take my time with, and I think I may, as I've said before, get one each payday. As far as I can make out, there are 10 main paperback volumes, a prequel, and a separate one called Endless Nights. I have the first, with the second on order, plus I've found Endless Nights on eBay. I will probably start treating myself to the rest from Jan or Feb payday, and keep going throughout the year. The library is tempting, but it does feel like something I'd like to keep. I read the first few pages of Descender last night, and it also looks good. It's a SF one, and seems lighter. There's only one volume out at the moment, which is good for my bank balance! Today I received my first volume of Revival, and I just love what I've read so far! There are five volumes so far, with the next due in Jan. They seem to release every six months or so, so it will be a long wait if I get into it, but also good for my bank balance! I can't decide if I'd like to keep them, or whether I can try the library.
  2. Two recommendations for Locke and Key - excellent! Beautiful Darkness looks interesting too.
  3. I'm quite happy for old threads to be bumped.
  4. I've read Claudia's Story - I haven't read Interview With A Vampire, so I enjoyed this. I thought the artwork was gorgeous. I know just what you mean about energy..
  5. I was really unsure as to how I felt about The Enemy, and in the end I didn't finish it. I got to the bit in the Palace, which seemed really daft, and gave up.
  6. I've added Y:The Last Man and Locke and Key to my wishlist, alongside Revival and Birthright!
  7. Hmm, yes - I might check ebay as well. The Sandman ones vary on amazon - I've ordered the 2nd one from Wordery, as it was cheaper. I may have to do some hunting around each time.
  8. I shall take a look at all of those later. I think this is something I could really get into, but they are so expensive. i can understand why, because of the work which goes into them, but I still have to be careful! I started The Sandman last night, and loved it - I know that the series has a mixture of different stories, but the first was just the sort of thing I like, and the artwork is great. I think there are about 12 -13 all together, so if I do continue to enjoy them, I may have to restrict myself to one each payday or something! For some, I think I will have to see what my local library can do, but I do think that I'd like to collect and keep The Sandman ones. (I'm gonna need more book shelves! lol)
  9. I can't say that I'm too interested in the Marvel ones, although I did enjoy the Guardians of the Galaxy film. I may well take a look at some of the Doctor Who ones.
  10. Thanks everyone - I now have a new wish list developing on amazon, and I'll be reporting back on the ones I've bought so far.
  11. I have just finished reading all three compendiums of The Walking Dead. I'm dying (haha) to know what happens next, but I can't afford to buy them separately, so I'll have to wait. Whilst I'm not overkeen on the artwork in it, I've really enjoyed it as a form of storytelling, and I'm now interested in exploring some more. I've just had a very small bonus at work, and I decided to treat myself to some to try. I've had my eye on Sandman by Neil Gaiman, so I've ordered the first two volumes. I decided on two volumes, as many of the reviews said that the first was needed, but isn't the best, so you need the second to really appreciate the series. If I like those two, I will probably treat myself to a new volume every payday! In addition, I saw Descender mentioned in blog post, and decided to give the first one a try. I then saw Outcast in amazon, which is written by Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead). So, I now have SF and Horror to try out. I'm really interested to see how the different art work compares, and how the different stories are told. (Edit: I've just remembered that I also ordered The Eye of the World the other day.. oops! Oh well.. that lot should keep me busy for a while! ) So, that's me.. has anyone recently discovered Graphic Novels, or have any recommendations? (I know there's an old thread on this, but I'm keen to see people's views now, as I think Graphic Novels have become more popular.)
  12. I've now just finished the 3rd Compendium, and so am now beyond the TV show. I really want to know what happens next, but the individual comics are so expensive! They don't have the best artwork, in my opinion, but it's a great way to tell the story.
  13. Yea, I really enjoyed the last half season, and it's one show that Beth and I enjoy together. I'm now further on in the 3rd compendium, and.. oh my !
  14. There's a bit of the year left, but for now, I think my favourite reads of the year (excluding re-reads) were: A Robot in the Garden by Deborah Install Uprooted by Naomi Novik Only Ever Yours by Louise O'Neil Starborn by Lucy Hounsom Temeraire by Naomi Novik The Territory by Sarah Govett Darkmere by Helen Maslin The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich The Box of Demons by Daniel Whelan Asking For It by Louise O'Neill Shattered Sea Series by Joe Abercrombie (audio) Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
  15. I was really enjoying The Bone Clocks, then I got stuck on a part i didn't like so much. I really must get it finished, because I want to read Slade House. Do you think you missed anything by not reading The Bone Clocks first?
  16. Noll, re your spoiler comment - I usually agree, but I actually didn't mind the way they handled it.
  17. With regards to your spoiler, there is a thought that it might get done by Big Finish, who do the audio books.
  18. I've had a look, and there seems to be 6 editions - I'm going to give the first one a try.
  19. Do you mean to say you missed this thread? http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/13729-help-the-forum-when-you-buy-books/
  20. I'm very tempted by the Wheel of Time graphic novel - have they covered the whole of the first book, and do you know it how many graphic novels? Concerning your issues with Book Depository, have you tried Wordery? Their prices seem to vary a lot, some are expensive, some reasonable - but my first experience of their postage was excellent.
  21. I'm so behind! Ok, some highlights... 7 Days by Eve Ainsworth - this is an interesting, quick read. It tells the story of someone being bullied, day by day - but then each day it also tells the side of the person doing the bullying, and you begin to realise that things aren't as simple as they seem. It's a good one for teens of all ages. Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan - https://bcfreviews.wordpress.com/2015/10/11/magnus-chase-and-the-sword-of-summer-by-rick-riordan/- I enjoyed going back to Rick's worlds, and liked this one. Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard - https://bcfreviews.wordpress.com/2015/10/30/beautiful-broken-things-by-sara-barnard-early-glimpse/- oh my, I loved this story! It's so good to see YA being written about strong friendship, and the issues are so well handled. Time Lord Fairy Tales - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1405920025?keywords=time%20lord%20fairy%20tales&qid=1449486012&ref_=sr_1_1&s=books&sr=1-1- this book looks lovely, and is a good, fun read. It takes the form of a book of fairy tales which would be read to young Time Lords. I've also read The Walking Dead Compendiums 1 and 2, and am half way through 3. These are great to read when my mojo starts playing up, and I'm now past the point we've reached in the TV series, which is interesting. For those of you who have read - I'm not sure how far they're going to take Negan in the TV show!
  22. So...? I've seen very divided opinions on Gallifrey Base, but I for one rather enjoyed the last episode. As I said before, it took me a long time to get used to Capaldi, and I've never been very keen on Clara - but over this series it's really started to work for me. I have been annoyed with how much Clara's character seem to take over, and even become more important than the Doctor, but I did think it was a good ending for her. It's been an interesting study of obsession, and not being able to let go, but I think that is a good move. I'd like to see a move back to a 'normal' companion, without their own massive plot or storyline.. and with no obsession, love, or whatever! I'm now looking forward to the Christmas episode.. I don't think Moffat's are that great, but at least this one has River back.
  23. I thought it was rather dark and unusual for Doctor Who, but I was captivated the whole way through! And yes, it's the shame then end had been spoiled so easily, but I don't know much about next week's episode, and I'm quite excited about it!
  24. I wasn't at all keen on Capaldi last series, but I have to admit that he's he's been rather good in this one. Same with Clara - I haven't been a fan, but recently I thought she's been much better, and I also thought she played evil Bonnie well. I didn't manage to watch last Saturdays, and I'm not sure I'm going to bother. I'm very excited about the next 3 episodes though.
  25. I would definitely recommend the 2nd Reviver book - it's much more supernatural, and I love Never's character in it.
