  1. Father's Day was great - it actually managed to make me cry! (You're all making me want to get my box sets out!)
  2. Strangely enough Noll, Barrowman in his 'happy bouncing state' really annoys me. I also wasn't always keen on him in Dr Who - but I love his character in the first 2 series of Torchwood.
  3. I would certainly say it's best to start with Eccleston, as there are some things in later episodes which will then make more sense (Captain Jack, for example). I've not watched much of the old shows, and when I caught a few recently they certainly seem old and slow! Personally, if a character shows up from the dim and distant past (such as The Master) I used Wiki and did a bit of reading up on them. Abby, as for your comments about Smith and Tennant, I totally agree. I just think that Tennant showed more, and he refected the age (maturity) of The Doctor better.
  4. Diane, I would say that the problem with a larger book is if you don't like it, you're stuck with it!
  5. I did find it a good fun book - I like the stories of the Greek gods, so I like this modern take. The annoyance is how they keep walking into trouble, it takes them far too long to become suspicious. I'm going to try the 2nd book, and see how it progresses.
  6. It's the sort of book which I would love to read, but I'm not sure I practically can!
  7. I can't believe that, according to my my LibraryThing records, I've only read or listened to 17 books so far this year! Even despite that, I'm still not very good at keeping this thread updated. So, last 3 books reviewed: The Hand That First Held Mine by Maggie O'Farrell WyrmeWeald by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell White Time by Margo Lanagan I've also given up on a few, so I thought I'd quickly round those up here: House of Leaves - I do intend to try to get back to this. The story of the house itself was good, but the rest is rather rambling. Flyte (audio) - unfortunately I really struggled with the narrator for this one. I have the books, so will possibly read it one day, and the rest of the series. Good Omens (audio) - I'm sorry, I know this is a much loved book by many, but it wasn't working for me. It may be that audio made a difference, I may try the book one day if I get yelled at enough.. but I'm not entirely sure I get on with the humour. Wicked - I didn't particularly like the first part, but I stuck with it. The section at the college was better, but I decided to give up when they went to the strange sex show.. it was just all too bizarre for me. Moving ahead, on my ipod is the first Percy Jackson book, which I'm rather enjoying. There are a few annoyances, but on the whole it's good, and I'm hoping Beth might like it. Book wise, I have some review books which I'm about half way through (not that great, but need reviewing) plus others waiting for me, I'm not really sure where to go next!
  8. I'm just wondering if anyone else has read anything by this author? She's new to me, but I believe she's better known in Australia? my introduction has been White Time, a YA short story collection. I'm fascinated by her imagination and writing, and have now ordered another of hers. My review for White Time:
  9. I can't seem to find this book using a search - can you tell me who the author is please?
  10. This is the fifth book by Maggie O
  11. I've just looked on the website, and I love Titan! It looks very cool. But.. Pamela Anderson? Since when is this 'Celeb BB'?!

    World Cup 2010

I'm sorry, but this just makes me cross: These players get paid a rediculous amount of money, and so if they're that good, they should be able to cope with anything. Pay them for results, not just because they're a "celebrity"!
  13. Fearless?! I'm actually headache free today, which is a bonus! I hope you're doing well? :D

  14. Yep, I'm sure we're all individual. For me, if watching any film at the cinema, I have to be quite a way back, otherwise I get dizzy and sick!
  15. Hmm, as I said above, I had no problems with my own glasses and the 3D ones. And I have astigmatism as well.
  16. In a way I respected Ben for sticking up to that guy, and saying he wouldn't be bullied. However, I don't think he realised how he would come over if he let someone else do it! As for Shabby, she can be interesting, but she's also annoying, and I'm tired of her tantrums and swearing. I also get annoyed when people keep going on about leaving. Stay or go, and be done with it! lol Oops.. I don't watch BB, do I?!
  17. I can only mention 3D films, as I saw a few last year. First of all, it is MUCH different to the old 3D, where you had glasses with red one side and green (I think) the other. It works really well, and is comfortable to watch. I don't think it adds much to general films, but it's rather cool with animated ones.. I watched G-Force with my kids, and the computer generated effects were really good in 3D. My eye sight isn't great, but I did fine. The 3D glasses went over my own, and were quite comfortable. My 6 year old wasn't so keen however, as they were too big, and kept slipping off! However, I'm not sure I want or need it on my TV at home.
  18. Sandman, there's a thread here for American Gods. If you use the search facility, you'll often find threads for popular books/authors.
  19. Pfft! You'd have to get past me first! Noll, I guess your taste will improve as you mature!

    World Cup 2010

Abby, I'm so pleased that we've both gone through. Who knows what will happen in group D.
  21. Can I ask you to contact the team about this, rather than taking a thread off topic please. However, be assured that we do not ban anyone without extremely good reason, and we may not wish to give out further details.
  22. Ooh, that's a big birthday! I hope you have a great day! :)

  23. Thank you so much Mac - we're doing well, and I really appreciate all the support.

  24. Sorry I'm late, but just wanted to send you a little :friends0:.

  25. I had both thoughts!
