  1. Ah - another one who read horror as a teen! You should be able to find recommendations for some good crime novels here. As for your previous colleague, I didn't think those sort of deals still happened?! He must be good!
  2. Your posts have been removed. If you continue to post promotional posts, your account will also be deleted.

  3. Ah, but there's a difference between something which has been reworked by the author, and an earlier book which is simply given a new cover and re-released.
  4. From another thread: Having just read this, it's something I'd like to pick up on, as I've also noticed it with Tess Gerritsen. All of her earlier books have been re-released, with similar covers to her recent ones. On her website they're separated out, but it must be confusing for those buying. I would imagine that this is something to do with the publishers rather than the authors, but I think it can be confusing and annoying. Does anyone else feel this way, and are there other authors re-releasing old books?
  5. I was thinking yesterday about some of my favourite authors, and the handful which have never disappointed. For me, these are: Maggie O'Farrell - I have honestly loved every single book of hers. Even My Lover's Lover, which had a very different feel to it, I still enjoyed her style of writing. She's one of the few authors whom I would buy straight away in hardback! Linda Gillard - Three different books, but all great. I have a list of preference, but would still recommend every one. Sam Hayes - Again, I have a list of preference, but still love every book. She seems less well known, but her books are excellent emotional thrillers. Rick Riordan - I haven't read all of his, but I'm immersed in the world of Percy Jackson at the moment, and also loved the first in his new series. I'd like to catch up on some of his other books, and would try anything he brings out. Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell - The Edge Chronicles are a great set of books, I think aimed at different ages as they go along. I also enjoyed the first WyrmeWeald book, even though it had a different feel to it. I was also thinking about those who have fallen off this list. The two which come to mind are: JD Robb (In Death series) - at one point I rushed to read the latest, but they are now too much alike, and I've pretty much given up. Stephen King - I love his earlier books, but can't get on with his later ones. How about yours?
  6. Hi Remy, I was just wondering what else you like to read? It would be good to see you further involved in the forum.
  7. Have just been for a long ride on my new bike - I think my muscles might tell me off tomorrow!

  8. Sam, could you please take a look at our rules. We don't allow new members to post links, plus we ask that reviews are posted here, rather than being linked to. The reason for this is that we're a discussion forum, and we hope that reviews will lead to further discussion. We're not a platform to send people to your external blog.
  9. Hi, As you've listed 5 books, your post was much better suited for our BCF Top 20 thread, found here.. http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/5137-bcfs-20-books-everyone-should-read-2010/

The 'Reading Logs' section is more for people to keep a record of what they're reading over time, or want to read.. that sort of thing. Thanks, Michelle

  10. if you enjoy horror, maybe Apartment 16 by Adam Neville. I'm on my phone so can't link to it, but my review is around somewhere.
  11. No worries at all! Thank you. x

  12. Hi - I've moved your query to the Technical Issues thread, and tried to help. However, it's already been discussed in that thread, so you may find a better solution as well.

  13. I'm hoping to post Tender Morsels to you tomorrow, hope that's ok? :)

  14. Had a good day at Colchester Zoo today. The only downside was the number of annoying wasps buzzing around!

  15. I found the existing thread using a quick search, and merged this one for you.
  16. Unfortunately The Owl Killers and Company of Liars must now wait, as I've had two review books come in. The first is Someone Else's Son by Sam Hayes, which I'm very excited about. The second was a random send from Penguin called The Anatomy of Ghosts by Andrew Taylor. I'm not sure if I'll continue Tender Morsels, as there are some things in it which make me feel too uncomfortable. The Red Pyramid is almost done, and is great, and I'm halfway through the 3rd Percy Jackson audiobook.
  17. Nici, I have PingChat too - I'll let you know my username.. once I can find it!
  18. I'm trying Words with Friends - mjmoore7. I have quite a few bits and pieces on my ipod touch. Games wise, Bejeweled 2, Guitar Rock (or Guitar Tour - I can't remember now which one I prefer) Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble and Game of Life are all good. Yetisports, Doodle Jump and Max Injury are all silly and addictive.
  19. Amy took her stabilisers off her bike today - and was riding around within 20 mins! Go girl! lol

Clever girl...great sense of balance then!

  20. Well as you can see, there were only two of these, and they were both last year, so it's probably safe to say that the idea didn't really take off. Plus, the explanation post is only one page back.
  21. We occasionally have people posting about graphic novels, unable to find anything already posted. Instead of keep merging these topics, we've set up a new small sub forum for them. If you're aware of any threads which need moving here, let me know.
  22. Welcome.. but, I wonder how they would react if you advertised this forum over there?!
  23. Hi poppyshake! I had a peek at the amazon reviews of The Owl Killers, and most seem to say it was really good, but not quite as good as Company of Liars. I very happily spotted that one in a charity shop today, so I now don't know which order to go in! I wrote a quick review of one of Margo Lanagan's books here.
  24. How is your back today?

  25. Can you please provide a few more details, you might even be able to persuade a few people to take a look.
