Ellery Queen, The Dutch Shoe Mystery. Interesting and now I know what they are like. Unlikely to read another one but entertaining enough for what it was. -
Ellery Queen, The Dutch Shoe Mystery. Saw the TV series as a child, in the 1970s, so thought I’d try this. Set in the 1920s, I’m six chapters in and it is entertaining, for a light read.

The Puzzle Wood, Rosie Andrews. A satisfying read and very mysterious. -
Just started reading The Puzzle Wood by Rosie Andrews and realised it fits in with this category

Just started The Puzzle Wood by Rosie Andrews

Just bought The Score by Richard Stark. Hard boiled American crime/mystery. I'm very much liking this category too, @Hayley

Did you hear Jeremy Irons when Santiago spoke? I couldn't get away from it. I thought that it actually was Jeremy Irons the first time I saw/heard him.
-
@Madeleine you should see the trailer for the third series! Featuring only Lestat - visually, you can hear Molloy talking and various other sounds, all of which are really clear. @theMadHatter I truly think that it's the actors who are mumbling, rather than the quality of the sound. Nobody is in any doubt about what Santiago has to say, the actor starting his career in the theatre and not needing to adopt an accent.
-
@theMadHatter I absolutely love the TV series. @Madeleine is right, Lestat isn’t in it often enough for my liking either. It’s been 12 years since I read the book and I only read the first two, so don’t remember much about it but there is going to be a third series in 2025, concentrating on Lestat who is a rock star, literally, he becomes a rock star in the book, I do remember that! - the actor who plays him is just right. I do have trouble hearing what some of the characters say, I just thought that they were mumbling/it was the accent and since I view alone I can have the volume as loud as I like. The series is on Sky Catch Up and since its’s BBC there’s no adverts.

A favourite of mine too. Have you read Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice? I’ve just finished watching the TV series of the same name based on her books (but you do need a strong stomach!)

I just bought Ellery Queen, The Dutch Shoe Mystery. Watched the TV series as a child and loved it so will see how this goes.

Oh no. Did you have to bath them? If I remember correctly it is eye watering stinky

I was taught to crochet and knit when I was four, my mother decided that they were skills I needed. I knitted a few baby clothes as a young adult and a soft toy as a child - as part of a crafting guide badge - and only took up crochet, amigurumi at first, in the last 5 or 6 years. I started to knit again when I saw a shawl design I liked around 18 months ago. I am knitting a small shawlette just now. None of that means I am any good at it but I enjoy it and that’s why I do it. I also enjoy paper crafts, some of my paper crafts and knitting are posted on the hobbies thread.

I just bought The Bookseller of Inverness too. Lord Lovat, mentioned in the first chapter, is our clan chief. Glad that you are getting back to enjoying reading.

If it's any help at all the first thing I learnt to crochet was an amigurumi. It was a monster and I decided that I couldn't go wrong with that. It was just one stitch, double crochet and wasn't difficult at all. I haven't crocheted in ages!

Read both Yellow Wallpaper and Metamorphosis. It was @itsmeagain who made the comparison to claim the mention
