  1. Thanks Athena.

Work's been crazy lately - although saying that it usually is, there is always sick people to have to deal with - but on the plus side I'm keeping up a steady pace with my reading which after the rubbish year I had last year is definitely a good thing.  I'm just hoping I can keep it up, the only downside is that I am having to avoid the internet in the evenings because otherwise I get sidetracked way too easily.  I need to try and find the right balance so that I can do both without neglecting one or the other.

  2. Bridget Jones's Baby - I have to say I absolutely loved it.  I had been a little apprehensive about them bringing back the characters so long after the last one but I have to say I think they did a brilliant job.  Laughed from start to finish and I loved the way they ended it - the perfect finale if it is the last one, but yet leaving it open for a potential fourth one.  Perfect.

  3. Just started reading this Autumn and I KNOW I'm going to love it :)

It's a great book.  I enjoyed it just as much this time around as I did when I originally read it.  The television adaptation starring John Thaw is also worth a watch as it is a very good portrayal.

the Kindle does have a page count but it is a "kindle" count and does not correspond to a hard copy book.

Yeah, I'm a bit OCD about page counting - see the last paragraph of this post - so the 'Kindle' count causes me great stress and anxiety.  It is completely useless to me.

I REALLY need to update this thread - I'm not very good at it am I?  Although to be fair I haven't been online much recently.

  4. I usually know within the first chapter or so whether or not I'm going to like it or not, and sometimes within the first couple of pages.  To be honest if I start a book I usually try and finish it (even if it is super boring) because I hate not finishing them once I've started them.  I think my OCD comes in to play here!  The main reason why I don't like something though is usually because of the writing style so I quite often have a look at the first page or two before buying (or borrowing from library, friend etc.) as that gives me a general idea as to whether it is a style of writing that suits me or not.

Books that I do already own that I haven't been able to get in to I put aside and go back to another day... sometimes months, or even years later and more often than not I get on much better with it second time around.

  5. I was in the same boat as you. I wasn't sure if the books would be for me. However, I absolutely loved Lord of the Rings and books like that. I thought with that much hype I might as well give it a chance. If there is one thing I've learned from reading the first Game of Thrones book is that don't judge a book by its show, movie, or hype. Yes, the craze behind the books are accurate and it had me hooked from the beginning page and I would recommend them to anyone.

I haven't actually read the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  I have read The Hobbit though and really struggled through it.

I may try and pick up a copy of the first book in the Game of Thrones series at some point and see how I get on with it but don't think it will be a priority for me as the more I think about it the more I feel it's just not for me.

  6. I have never seen the show but I have been debating giving the books a go for a while now because I've heard such good things about them.  I nearly bought the boxset on Amazon during their Black Friday deals (as I think it was 6 books for about £22 but I kept putting it off because I just wasn't sure about them or whether they would be for me.

  7. I also use the Leuchtturm 1917 dot grid. I got lucky because my local WHSmith (stationary chain) were selling them off at £1 each so I bought all their remaining stock which was only 6 notebooks sadly.

Wow!  Bargain price - you were so lucky and I don't blame you for buying their remaining stock!

I'm not artistic, either, so I felt like I needed something extra to make it nicer... Went and bought washi tape! (Also learned a new word: washi tape). I found a really cute one, too! It's pink with golden xoxoxoxo going on and on, in two rows.

I love Washi tape - I bought loads last year for using in my daily thoughts-and-feelings journal. There are some really lovely ones around, although not many UK stockists - I bought the majority of mine on Etsy - got a bit carried away though.   :D

  8. Morning all.

Sorry I haven't been online yet so far this year, I've been off work since December 30th so have been making the most of my time off and have spent the vast majority of my time curled up with a book.  I've deliberately stayed offline so that I don't get sidetracked from things and have only been on briefly in the evenings to check email etc.  I go back to work on Wednesday though (I'm already getting those back-to-work-blues!) so should be around a bit more often then.

    Hope everyone is well.

  9. I started watching Pretty Little Liars at the start of the year - I think I may have mentioned I had been thinking of watching it previously.  I find I have to limit myself to one episode per night though because otherwise I would end up binge watching it and I wouldn't get anything else done.  Only 7 episodes in so far but I have to say I'm quite enjoying it.

  10. I have had a fantastic reading start to my year - since January 1st I have read 5 books (and have started my 6th) with a total of 1,961 pages read.  I'm really happy with that and must try to keep up the pace and not fall into yet another reading slump.  I really need to go and update my reading log too - that is a job for this afternoon!

  11. I tend to order most of my online books from Amazon.  I occasionally buy from Book Depository if it's a book I can't get on Amazon (or if it's too expensive or an edition not available on Amazon).

I have also bought from The Book People website once or twice too - I think both purchases were boxsets comprising of 10 books that I couldn't find anywhere else.  They were a fantastic price too!

  12. I love the idea of a bullet journal because I love lists and post-it notes etc. and it would be great to be able to keep it all in some form of organisational system and in one place too. I've seen lots of images of people's bullet journals over on Instagram - I could quite easily (and very happily I might add) spend hours going through them all.

I would love it if you'd post pictures!!

I second this! It's great finding inspiration from others, although I usually end up getting really jealous of how great other people's journals are. Mine would never be anywhere near as good!

I hear Leuchtturm 1917 is good, too.

I've recently purchased three of these journals - in grid/squared format - for use as a book journal, movie/television journal and one for wishlists. Could probably have used just one for all three but they were all such pretty colours!

This is my book log - I've roughly sketched in books on the shelves, but I'll pen them in properly as I finish books, and I'll write the month on the shelf underneath.

    Absolutely love this idea!

My movie log is set up like strips of film - I'll write the films I watch into each frame. The month will be written into an upright block between frames.

That is such a cute idea.

I also watch several shows and occasionally forget where I'm up to (we record them and watch them at our leisure), so I've included check boxes for the seasons I plan to watch this year.

Love this idea too! I'm always forgetting what episode I'm up too!

  13. Just stopping in quickly to wish you all a very happy (and safe) New Year!

I hope to get back into the swing of things properly in the new year (including with my reading which has come to a bit of a standstill again) so although I may be AWOL for the next couple of days I should be around more from 3 January when things start to get back to normal for me.

    Best wishes to you all!

  14. And now Carrie Fisher too. I've loved her for years, and Postcards From The Edge is one of my favourite books, introduced to it by my now best friend. RIP Carrie.

Just seen the news about this on Twitter.  Very, very sad but I have to admit to having been expecting it ever since I first heard she'd had a heart attack.

  15. Just popping in to say I hope everyone has had/is having a wonderful Christmas.

I've been super busy this month (it's seriously flown by!) but all I have to do is get through this week at work (yay for 3 day weeks!) and then I'm off until 11 January, which hopefully means I should be around a bit more!

  16. I see Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is now available for pre-order on Amazon, although the release date is currently listed for December 31, 2017.  Not sure if that is correct or not or whether they may bring the date forward but it's good to get confirmation that it will definitely be released on DVD!

  17. I got the complete Jason Bourne Movie set on Blue-Ray for Christmas so I watched the first three yesterday - The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum.  Planning on watching the other two (which I've never seen before) today!

  18. Had a lazy day today and watched Finding Nemo this morning followed by Finding Dory this afternoon.  I had seen Finding Nemo before but not for a long time, so it was good watching it again before seeing the sequel.  Brilliant films and loved the fact it sort of sets up a third film (not sure if that is the plan or not but it certainly leaves it open to happen... yay!)

  19. I had been considering signing up for a Netflix account just so that I could watch these episodes sooner rather than later, but after hearing mixed reactions to the new episodes I have to admit I'm not as anxious to see them anymore.  Don't get me wrong, I will watch them at some point, probably when they are released on DVD but I certainly won't be signing up for an account anytime soon.

Has anyone else seen them yet?  Any more thoughts/reactions to them?
