  1. Pouring with rain now, hard to believe that this time last week it was a blizzard!
  2. Won't the ear things get in the way though?!
  3. I read North and South a couple of years ago and thought the same as you did regarding the language and the way it was written, it felt very modern and was less of a struggle than when I re-read Jane Eyre. I haven't heard of "Ruth" but it sounds good.
  4. Glad you had a good time Talisman, sounds fabulous. I'd love to see the GoT locations. And you missed all the snow!
  5. I've had the Bruno series for years as well - good review Alexi, must get round to reading them sometime!
  6. Yep all gone here, much milder now and drizzly.
  7. They're all part of the Rivers of London series, they're great but make sure you read them in the correct order!
  8. Hope your dad is feeling better soon, I hear ribs do take ages but there's not much you can do to speed up the process, they just have to heal in their own good time. Glad he's getting around a little though.
  9. Date with Death by Julia Chapman - thus is the first on a new series of Midsomer Murders style mysteries set in the Yorkshire Dales. Delilah Metcalfe is hoping that her Dales Dating Agency will flourish and solve her dire financial problems. Then Samson O'Brien, a local guy who has been in London for years serving with the Metropolitan Police, roars back into town and upsets everyone, for he is something of a black sheep. He sets up his Dales Detective Agency (despite being suspended from the Met on full pay) and rents his office from Delilah, and when men who are registered with the dating agency start dying violently, both Samson and Delilah join forces to find out /what exactly is happening. This was enjoyable, and I look forward to more in this series. 8/10 The Body in the Ice by A J MacKenzie - this is the second in the Romney Marsh mysteries, and this time Rev Hardcastle and his friend, widow Amelia Chaytor, try to find out who killed a young black woman found dead in the pond of a local house, which had been more or less empty for years, and why was she dressed as a man? And why have the family who own the house suddenly returned to live there from the US, where they've been based for many years? I found it a bit convoluted, but the Reverend and Amelia are likeable characters, and there's some light relief from the Rev's sister, who comes to stay with him so that she can work on her latest novel. Another promising instalment in this series, which seems to be developing nicely. 7.5/10
  10. Rained overnight and this morning, so it's all gone, much milder too. As Raven says, it's good to not have to worry about slipping over.
  11. Me too, they're quite similar in structure, but I thought DM was much creepier. Still enjoyed TA though.
  12. Well the snow is all gone, a lot went overnight and it rained earlier which washed away the rest. it's not quite as cold as it has been, hard to believe the weather has changed so suddenly. What a week!
  13. I saw a very brief trailer for the TV series the other night.
  14. Mine are on library thing too.
  15. After working from home for 2 days, went back into the office today, it was fairly quiet weather wise, bit of hail and drizzle, then at about 2.30 it started snowing heavily again, left around 4.00 and it was still snowing earlier, not sure about now. Think it might get above freezing on Sunday!
  16. Glad you got rescued Brian, it's horrible when that happens.
