So sorry to hear the news, Anna.
Charliepud, what a lovely poem, it almost brought me to tears!

Ed's dance was definitely a sight to behold.
It was a shame that Daisy went, but she has been in the bottom three lots now so she's clearly not one of the public's faves and it could have only been one of her, Greg (who did much better in the dance-off), Ed (who wasn't going to go after that dance) and Judge Rinder (which I kinda felt would be unfortunate as his grandparents were in the audience) to go, if there wasn't to be a shock entrant in the dance-off.

Did anyone see the last episode of The Fall? I thought it was a bit disappointing.
Yes, I was highly disappointed in this whole series. Nothing really happened at all. Nothing!
Other than that and the programs I previously listed, I have recently been watching:
National Treasure - quite good, though I had the ending spoiled for me by Gogglebox before I got round to finishing it
Ordinary Lies - I concur that it's not as good as the first series, but it's still enjoyable enough
The Missing - fantastic
The Code - not bad so far, though not as gripping as series 1 yet
Supergirl - might stop watching this soon, I can take it or leave it
Ash vs Evil Dead - fricking hilarious, but very sick & wrong
Generally far too much telly, which is why my reading has suffered.

I am still reading TWoT book 6, which is really peeing me off now. Not the book, just the fact that I haven't finished it yet.
I've also still reading Emma as an aside, on my Kindle. I'm 80% through both of them, and just really need to get a move on and try and pick up some easier/quicker reads next, to get my reading mojo back.

Hi all, I kinda forgot about the forum for a few weeks what with half term & just life in general.
Hope everyone is well, apart from dealing with the presidential result the other day. Sadly, after going through the whole Brexit debacle, it didn't come as a massive shock to me.

I could do with reading this. Our 'new' house (and garage) is still so disorganised, even after being in there for nearly 16 months!

Starting to get to a state of telly overload! I have been watching:
The Fall
Poldark
Damned
Divorce
Yonderland
Hunted
Morgana Robinson's The Agency
Strictly Come Dancing
The Great British Bake Off (nearly all over
)
Mock the Week
Have I Got News For You
Would I Lie to You
Plus, I want to catch up with National Treasure, Westworld, Ordinary Lies and The Missing.

Last night we watched The Conjuring 2. Properly frickin' scary!
-
I can't remember if there is much about the character's emotions in them (as it's a long time since I read them) but Brian Keene's zombie books (The Rising, City of the Dead and Dead Sea) are some of the best books I've ever read in that genre.

Ah yes, it's tedious switching colors in crocheting too. I'm not sure if tedious is the right word, maybe just awkward. You have to connect the new yarn color in the current loop/ loops of your work and it's tricky. There are lots of ways, but you can screw everything up!
I primarily use what is called variegated yarn, where the color changes as you crochet/ knit. It makes it less boring and I don't feel like I'm just using one color
I love getting accessories!
I used to plan out my path of a certain colour to maximise the amount of stitches I could do before having to switch whilst trying not to have too long a line of thread underneath. It required a lot of careful counting though and if you mucked it up, the dreaded unpicking beckoned!
I've not done any for about 20 years.
I still have a partially finished cross-stitch of some woodland animals hanging around somewhere. Perhaps I'll dig it out and try and finish it off for my daughter's room. (My son has one that my mum did for him, with his name & DoB).

Okay, you both have me intrigued. What happened?
I will put it in spoiler tags as I only watched it yesterday myself.
Anastacia and Melvin were in the bottom two. In the talk with Tess, she got upset that she had to do the routine again as she didn't want to hurt herself - she'd been injured in training and they had to re-choreograph the routine on the day of the live show. Just before they were due to do the dance off, it was announced that Anastacia couldn't do her dance again due to the risk of further injury so the dance off was cancelled and they went to the public vote. This led to Melvin leaving the show.
There seems to be some uproar about this, but I'm not sure why. It's not like the Beeb could force her to dance and it was still a fair way of deciding who left..

Thanks Athena. I know a lot of women find it hard to talk about this stuff, and I admit it is difficult for me at work being the only female in a team of 9 men, but most of them are similar age to me and have wives and girlfriends who have or very soon will be experiencing this stuff too. You can't really be shy about this sort of thing, as it is natural and happens to almost every woman on the planet, assuming she lives that long ! Talking to other women at work and just in general, I am astonished as to how common this problem with sleep seems to be, and wonder why women don't talk about this more. It started for me about 4 years ago, but because I was told that menopause is about hot flushes and eratic periods I didn't even consider that it may be due to this. If I had known then I could have saved myself years of misery and sleeplessness. I am not then going to be ashamed and embarrassed about talking about this, as it is really important that other younger women do know about this - education is power !
I suspect that this is one of those things that if this happened to men, there would be all sorts of information out there about it and lots of different ways to try to combat it. As it's a women only problem, we tend to just suffer in silence.
Glad the stuff you're taking is helping

I used to be in the 100 page + a day bracket but now i'm happy if I can do about 30 pages
From time to time if I want to finish a book quickly I can still manage a 2-300 page blast, but that's basically with ignoring the telly & all the chores.
I just popped into the library near work as it's in the same local authority as my one at home and I nearly got some James Patterson's out, as they had loads of new ones I'd not seen before. Now *they* were books that I could devour in one sitting and I read all of his when they first came out, but before too long I felt they got too diluted, more like large print books and his proliferation was too much for me to cope with so I stopped reading them. I still get tempted back from time to time though.
In the end I thought I've got too many books at home to read so I probably shouldn't use the library at the moment.

4 eps into Angelby, a Swedish mystery which reminds me a lot of Jordsknott.
I'm not currently watching any foreign drama, for the first time in ages. I couldn't remember if Beck was one of the ones I enjoyed or the one that I didn't, so I haven't bothered so far.

and The Fall starts this week so will record that as I'm out most Thursdays
Oh yes, I'm looking forward to this too.
Also watching Cold Feet which I'm enjoying. It's almost like it's never been away!

What I've always heard is, if you hit & kill an animal with your car you're not allowed to take it home, but the next person to come along is.
I don't know how much truth there is in that though.

What do you think of this new series? Wasn't too sure myself after the first episode as it just didn't seem to have the same feel about it as the first series did, but it has grown on me. It's totally worth watching for Ben Aldridge though!!
Well after being confused by the trailer thinking I'm sure *she* wasn't in the first series, the confusion was quickly dealt with early on in the first episode.
I've enjoyed it though, even if it's a bit predicable at times.
Which one is Ben Aldridge?

The prequel was published between books 10 and 11, so I recommend to read it after reading book 10, that should be a safe bet. The book mentions some plot points and information that is revealed in the normal books, so it's best not to read it before at least reading the first 6 books (or you'll spoil things for yourself, though as you say you've already read up to book 8). But it was published between books 10 and 11 and I really think that's the best time for reading it. Personally I read the prequel after reading book 13, because I wasn't sure when to read it and that worked out for me. So I'd say if you want to be safe, after book 10 is a good time
.
Thank you

I finished reading the rest of the Preacher graphic novels fairly swiftly (which I thoroughly enjoyed), then it took me a fair few days to get back into reading Lord of Chaos (TWoT book 6) again. I'm just about barely doing one chapter a day, so I still need to gee myself back into a normal reading mode. I think a different book would probably help but I already feel like I've left this book to languish a bit too long already, so I just want to get through it as quickly as I can.

Am currently mainly just watching a lot of BBC stuff:
Poldark
Our Girl
The Great British Bake Off
Strictly Come Dancing
I'm also watching Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit. It's rather cheesy and has an abundance of filler, but I like seeing the old games they're playing. Sometimes they are painfully bad at them though.

I sat and watched The Intern last night with Robert De Nero and Anne Hathaway. was such a good feel good factor film.
That's what I thought too. We watched it last week when we were both off work ill and lying on the sofa. Tom thought it was boring and not a comedy (as it had been listed as) whereas I thought it was sweet

Feels like I've not been here for ages! What with the chaos of the school settling in fortnight, the almost daily homework (already) and a week where this sickness bug that's been going around took us all out one after the other (well, me & hubby were ill on the same days, which really wasn't good!), I kinda forgot to check in.
Hopefully we're all over it now and this week sees us get back to normal!
Hope everyone else with various ailments gets better too

I re-read Robert Jordan - The Wheel of Time 0: New Spring. I've been meaning to re-read The Wheel of Time series (one of my favourite epic fantasy series, my most favourite if I really had to pick). I thought this time around I'd start with the prequel and then read the rest of the series (obviously the first time around I started with book 1, and that's how I think one should do it, as book 1 is an excellent introduction into the world). I quite enjoyed re-reading this prequel. You do notice different things upon a second time reading the book. I look forward to read the rest of the series. In fact, I was so excited, I started book 1 after I finished book 0, because I wanted to read about a lot of the amazing characters in the series. I was planning on reading one a month, to start in October 2016 and finish in December 2017 (14 books + 1 prequel), but I felt in the mood this month, and I felt in the mood to start book 1 after finishing book 0, so I'm just going to read book 1 now, then maybe read one per month. Book 1 is called The Eye of the World. I really enjoyed reading the prequel and to be in The Wheel of Time world again.
I'm sure you'll beat me in my re-read/new read of TWoT
I've not read the prequel at yet. As someone who's only got to book 8 before, when would you recommend would be a good time to read that one?

Gutted that BBC have lost the rights to this show. I've watched it from the very beginning and it was a yearly cosy treat - both heartwarming and very amusing. Even if the format stays the same (albeit with the inclusion of adverts - gah!), it just won't be the same show, so I doubt I'll watch it on C4. The strength of the show was down to the four of them and without three of the main components, it just doesn't work for me.
I am loving the current series though and am just trying to make the most of what's left.

I finally finished Lord of Chaos (TWoT book 6) last night.
I'm hoping to get through my next book, The Long War by TP and Stephen Baxter, a hell of a lot quicker.
