  1. I can`t remember either, but I remember what a great character she was.  : ponders: ;)

Ooh, are you going to order the books through the library ??  :D

What`s Ellie reading now ? And why isn`t she on BCF ? :o Its` never too early to start being a book fairy ( it sounds better than nerd  :giggle2: ).

I might consult the library catalogue to see if they are available. ;)

Ellie is currently fond of Maisy books (just the same book over and over again though. :D) and this set of 4 Axel Scheffler animal books, so it's more for me to get other books as I want some variety. :D

  2. * Cackles*  Looks pretty good, don`t it !  :giggle2:

I can't really remember what happened to Nicci...   (here's where I'm missing the old :ponder: emoticon from the Culty board ;) )

I was in the library the other day looking at kids books with Ellie and before I went, I sneaked a look at the fiction section. I saw the last Sword of Truth book and the penultimate one too, which I probably would have got had they also had the 2nd book in the "quadriliogy". :D

  3. Have you read anything else by Jane Austen? I have read two of her most popular novels and didn't like either. I am hoping I enjoy something of hers.

I've read Persuasion, which I wasn't too keen on either and also Jane Eyre, but that was a long long time ago and I can't really remember much about it. I do know I got a bit bored towards the end and struggled to finish it though. :D

I think perhaps I'm too impatient a reader for some of the classics. ;)

  4. Last Friday I finished The Long War, which was pretty good, even though it was a bit difficult to remember what had happened in the previous book (even with the help of Wikipedia) and started Revolution by Russell Brand.

I also finished my long running read of Emma on kindle. I'm not sure Austen is my bag. :(

  5. Wow, I had no idea! I just looked up Terry Goodkind on Wikipedia and didn't know there were so many new books in the series that I hadn't heard of. I stopped reading after book 3, and re-read books 1 - 3 2 times, and in my 3rd re-read of the first 3 books I gave up in the middle of book 3. I don't know if I'll ever read beyond them, maybe. I thought book 1 was really good though.

This week's topic is: Series That Got Worse with Each Book/Season

Funny that that should be this week's topic. :giggle2:

I would definitely say Sword of Truth (although they are still a guilty pleasure) and A Song of Ice & Fire (Game of Thrones) book series - not the TV series though, that's still at a high quality - probably because they've condensed a lot of the boring stuff from the books.

  6. If I don't start it before Christmas, I want to definitely read the final TP book next year. Plus, get closer to finishing the Wheel of Time series.

I've also got a hankering to read the three Thomas Covenant chronicles now I have all the books in the final set.  The first two would be re-reads and the third is new to me.

  7. I`ve managed to hold off on buying it, just in case I get sucked in again.  :hide:

I did read the first few lines though.

    Probably a wise decision! :D

I saw another Sword of Truth book in the shops on Monday with the tagline 'The Legend Concludes'. Hmm, I'm sure they said that about Confessor:doh:

It does mean there are only another 3 books I need to read to finish it off.... :hide:

  8. I'm delighted that Netflix has finally got round to offering downloads to we can watch things offline. I have been able to do this with Amazon prime for ages so I am surprised it's taken this long for Netflix to offer the same thing. I think at the moment it is only for Netflix 'original' content but it is expected to be spread wider soon.

Oh good, I've been waiting for this :)

  9. :D

That`s good to know :) - I saw the reviews at the time and thought I wouldn`t try it.

I might`ve just gone on Amazon to look at it...  :hide:  :giggle2:

    :giggle2:

It was 2 years ago that I read it so my memory might be impaired. :D Although it did only take me 10 days to read (which is not nearly as bad as my reading speed now), so it can't have been all that bad, I hope :)

I think it might have ended on a cliffhanger....  Or at least a "to be continued" type ending....

  10. :giggle2:  Any ill effects ?  ;)

I see the book series is still going on ! :o

    I miss Richard and Kahlan !  :blush2:

I did break my promise of ignoring the new books that came out "after the series was finished", because I saw The Omen Machine in the library a few years ago. It wasn't bad actually - strangely comforting. :D I haven't got round to picking any of the others up since though.

  11. Hmm, I`m not seeing the Sword of Truth books there ? *ducks*  :giggle2:

*looks for book throwing emoticon* :giggle2:

Actually technically I have re-read Wizard's Own Rule (book 1), as I'd read that years before it got turned into a super duper tv show which made me want to read the whole book series. :D

  12. Looks like his good taste doesn't stretch to tv ;):D

    :blush2::D

Yeah, totally.  And there's more to come on Netflix.  They really are overdoing it.  All I want is season 3 of Daredevil.  Thank goodness for Westworld and The Expanse :D

Yes, I'd just be happy to have Daredevil. :D Jessica Jones was alright too.

I've not managed to get around to Westworld yet, though I'm planning to. We're lucky if we manage to get around to watching 1 episode of something a night & I then I watch other stuff my hubby's not interested in via catch-up on my phone whilst doing various jobs around the house. :D

  13. So far what I've read has been in English, but I own Dutch books (translations) by her as well. My favourite so far is Murder on the Orient Express though that is a very famous one so undoubtedly considered one of the better ones in general. I read some Miss Marple as well but I do prefer the Hercule Poirot's so far and wasn't overly keen on the Miss Marple novels. It seemed to be more 'detectiving' and deducing in Hercule Poirot, whereas Miss Marple was more of, I guess what you call a cozy mystery, where there's not that much tension but also lots of things about the characters and fun stuff. If that makes any sense. I haven't read any Tommy and Tuppence or Superintendent Battle yet. I own way more Agatha Christie books I've read, but all in good time. If you do decide to try any Agatha Christie book(s), I hope you enjoy it / them :).

The Tommy & Tuppence ones are really good. :) Though they are more of a spy/adventure type genre than a detective one.

  14. I've done this loads in the past though not so much now as I don't have time :wibbly:  (other than re-reading the first 7 books of The Wheel of Time in order to get to read the later ones for the first time).

The Dragonlance Chronicles & Legends trilogies I've read many times, but not for a number of years now

There are certain Stephen King's I've re-read (and I'd like to do this again with The Dark Tower series)

Various Discworld novels have been re-read multiple times, but only once through for the later novels

The Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas

There are a few other re-reads on my TBR that are there because I've bought them whereas I may have borrowed them from the library before (eg. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant)

  15. and the usual DC stuff - The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl, which is my favourite of the bunch at the moment (because it's light and fluffy and fun where everything else seems to be dark and miserable).  I'm probably going to dump Legends of Tomorrow soon (cos it's utter pants, frankly), and possibly Arrow (cos the whole Dark/Felicity/nuclear missile thing was beyond stupid, even for Arrow).

Supergirl is the only one of the four that I actually watch (possibly because I'm being supportive of a rare female protagonist) and my hubby, who watches all of them, tells me that's the worst of them all. :giggle2:  I started watching the first episode of Legends of Tomorrow and found the acting so dreadfully wooden & cheesy that I couldn't justify wasting time on it.

I do feel like we've reached a total saturation point of comic book films & tv shows though.  :icon_eek:
