  1. Oh yeah! I always get confused with the Jane's - Eyre & Austen.
  2. I might consult the library catalogue to see if they are available. Ellie is currently fond of Maisy books (just the same book over and over again though. ) and this set of 4 Axel Scheffler animal books, so it's more for me to get other books as I want some variety.
  3. I can't really remember what happened to Nicci... (here's where I'm missing the old :ponder: emoticon from the Culty board ) I was in the library the other day looking at kids books with Ellie and before I went, I sneaked a look at the fiction section. I saw the last Sword of Truth book and the penultimate one too, which I probably would have got had they also had the 2nd book in the "quadriliogy".
  4. I've read Persuasion, which I wasn't too keen on either and also Jane Eyre, but that was a long long time ago and I can't really remember much about it. I do know I got a bit bored towards the end and struggled to finish it though. I think perhaps I'm too impatient a reader for some of the classics.
  5. Welcome to the board Of those authors, I've only read Ursula Le Guin & her Earthsea Quartet. I've heard of Ian McEwan and Zadie Smith but not read any of theirs. Although I did recently watch a TV adaptation of Zadie's NW, which was pretty good.
  6. Last Friday I finished The Long War, which was pretty good, even though it was a bit difficult to remember what had happened in the previous book (even with the help of Wikipedia) and started Revolution by Russell Brand. I also finished my long running read of Emma on kindle. I'm not sure Austen is my bag.
  7. Funny that that should be this week's topic. I would definitely say Sword of Truth (although they are still a guilty pleasure) and A Song of Ice & Fire (Game of Thrones) book series - not the TV series though, that's still at a high quality - probably because they've condensed a lot of the boring stuff from the books.
  8. If I don't start it before Christmas, I want to definitely read the final TP book next year. Plus, get closer to finishing the Wheel of Time series. I've also got a hankering to read the three Thomas Covenant chronicles now I have all the books in the final set. The first two would be re-reads and the third is new to me.
  9. I saw another Sword of Truth book in the shops on Monday with the tagline 'The Legend Concludes'. Hmm, I'm sure they said that about Confessor. It does mean there are only another 3 books I need to read to finish it off....
  10. It was 2 years ago that I read it so my memory might be impaired. Although it did only take me 10 days to read (which is not nearly as bad as my reading speed now), so it can't have been all that bad, I hope I think it might have ended on a cliffhanger.... Or at least a "to be continued" type ending....
  11. I did break my promise of ignoring the new books that came out "after the series was finished", because I saw The Omen Machine in the library a few years ago. It wasn't bad actually - strangely comforting. I haven't got round to picking any of the others up since though.
  12. *looks for book throwing emoticon* Actually technically I have re-read Wizard's Own Rule (book 1), as I'd read that years before it got turned into a super duper tv show which made me want to read the whole book series.
  13. Yes, I'd just be happy to have Daredevil. Jessica Jones was alright too. I've not managed to get around to Westworld yet, though I'm planning to. We're lucky if we manage to get around to watching 1 episode of something a night & I then I watch other stuff my hubby's not interested in via catch-up on my phone whilst doing various jobs around the house.
  14. Yes, the first one is quite disturbing, but if you get onto the subsequent books, it completely turns that story on its head. It's rather clever!
  15. The Tommy & Tuppence ones are really good. Though they are more of a spy/adventure type genre than a detective one.
  16. I've done this loads in the past though not so much now as I don't have time (other than re-reading the first 7 books of The Wheel of Time in order to get to read the later ones for the first time). The Dragonlance Chronicles & Legends trilogies I've read many times, but not for a number of years now There are certain Stephen King's I've re-read (and I'd like to do this again with The Dark Tower series) Various Discworld novels have been re-read multiple times, but only once through for the later novels The Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas There are a few other re-reads on my TBR that are there because I've bought them whereas I may have borrowed them from the library before (eg. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant)
  17. I hope it's not, I've still got 8 books to go! It's Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time.
  18. Supergirl is the only one of the four that I actually watch (possibly because I'm being supportive of a rare female protagonist) and my hubby, who watches all of them, tells me that's the worst of them all. I started watching the first episode of Legends of Tomorrow and found the acting so dreadfully wooden & cheesy that I couldn't justify wasting time on it. I do feel like we've reached a total saturation point of comic book films & tv shows though.
  19. Long time no see, Karsa I really like the Gap Cycle by Stephen Donaldson. It's a bit of a space opera epic.
