  1. I agree that he focuses on he people and how they cope with the situations, at least in the books I read. Sometimes the supernatural ruined it, because the realistic outcomes would be more frightening.
  2. I watched Mary Poppins as a child, I don't remember much. The boy wanted to buy bread for the pigeons, but the bankers gave him a lesson on life savings. There was also rain, and the children jumped with the nanny through a painting on the floor. There was London, and the nanny flew through it with an umbrella. The good old days, when you could use an umbrella in central London; but to be fair, she was flying.
  3. Why do you think of him so?
  4. I don't think it's mandatory to create a new topic each year, it's mostly done by the users who read a lot in order to keep everything tidy. I could be wrong, though. Even so, you have already read plenty of books this year. Which one will you read next?
  5. I saw the first episodes, but didn't like it.
  6. I read any book as long as it attracts me, no matter its genre. For now, I like Virginia Woolf, Fyodor Dostoevsky, John Steinbeck; from contemporaries, I like Alice Munro.
  7. Minho is a small region, but a very good one; the northwesternmost of Portugal. It's like those mediterranean provinces lost in time one might find in films, with the ups and downs it entails (although it's an atlantic province). It has plenty to visit (a national park, mountains, beaches, monuments and a castle, rural villages), great food (this I'll miss the most) and it's relatively cheap. If I'm not mistaken, there's a fan of the local wine in the forum (at least I saw it mentioned somewhere). It also has an identifiable folklore and a strong sense of its own culture and traditions, with several fairs and events that come from centuries ago. I'm actually impressed, in the way that everywhere I travelled to I found something from back home. What about where you come from?
  8. I'm a bit envious, I confess. The world should have more trams and parks.
  9. Battlestar Galactica: Remake the miniseries - these first two massive episodes were good. Man created machine, machine turned against man, an armistice was agreed and machine has now returned to wipe out the entire human race. The plot is already confusing after two episodes, but it has hold held itself together so far and I hope it maintains this way. There were some space battles and plenty of exposition, so now I think I know everything I need to know from the characters and settings. Mass Effect seems to be heavily based on this, they're great videogames and I recommend them. Now, onwards to the main series.
  10. Welcome to the forum, pink_girl. Which books do you like? Do you have a Goodreads profile?
  11. The Office: U.S. version season 2 - I watched two full seasons, but it's not my cup of tea. It has some funny moments and some well-made characters, but it isn't enough. It already seemed the story was forced in order to milk certain subplots, so I think it's better to stop now before I become too invested in the characters. I'm currently obtaining Battlestar Galactica: Remake from the internet.

    Rugby

It was a fun game to watch. Both teams showed a lot of heart, those final minutes were breathtaking. The assist in Wales' try was great.

I'm watching my first match this world cup, England versus Wales, currently 22-18 with seventeen minutes to go. Scott Williams injured, the commentators said the welsh team is plagued by injuries.
  14. Have a good move, frankie.
  15. Welcome to the forum, Baldingbookworm.
  16. I couldn't find a suitable topic thread.
  17. A map of the Roman Empire in 211 CE, stretching from Morocco to Iran.
  18. I'm listening to the Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify for the first time, a cool feature. It's a weekly playlist Spotify provides to each individual user, tailored to their listening habits - it's nice to, well, discover. There are some artists I've listened to, but most of them are new; and even for those I know, I haven't yet listened to the songs chosen.
  19. It's a difficult story for a debut novel, Katie Marsh was brave in writing it.
  20. It sounds interesting, the film is really good. Good luck.
  21. Welcome to the forum, SorinaM. Do you show your drawings somewhere (like DeviantArt e.g.)?
  22. At last, black forest gâteau. High expectations, highly met.
  23. The Office season 1 - I didn't like it much bar some moments, but I was expecting it because the following seasons are supposedly better. I've seen videos from the Youtube channel and they're awesome, I expect to find many more moments like those in the future. This served as an introduction to the characters.
  24. Downton Abbey 6x01 - The One-Liner Countess Returns
  25. Both the book and the film seem enticing, which one would you recommend first? How many pages, circa, does the book have?
