  1. I'm going to do one every other month, so you will probably finish faster! I have the Gregory series too!
  2. I will be reading Hunger in January as well, it should be fun
  3. I finished Philippa Gregory's The Other Boleyn Girl and have made The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough my last book of the year. One of my favorites of all time, I revisit it from time to time.
  4. Gone (Gone Saga Book 1)- Michael Grant (576 pages, according to Amazon, includes excerpt of Hunger, Book 2) Gaia mentioned this series to me and for some reason, a series of 7 books really appealed to me. Then, I checked out the page counts and discovered them to all be in the 500 page range. I didn’t even pause during the sample. I was glued to all 576 pages. The characters were all good, the pacing was quick- I was shocked when I realized I was at 60%! One day, Sam is sitting in his classroom and all the sudden, the teacher disappears. A girl from an advanced studies class tells his class the older kids she was working with have disappeared as well. Soon, it turns out all the adults and everyone over 15 disappears. Sam wonders if it all has to do with the light he was able to create in his bedroom closet. Then, the private school kids show up. And Sam is only a week away from his 15th birthday. This could be a stand alone. I liked it, I thought it was good and an entertaining read. Just dark enough and based on the idea of Lord of the Flies… it succeeded better. Stephen King has a rave on the cover… which might be obvious why when/ if/ upon reading the book. Definitely worth the read. Recommended.
  5. A Long Walk to Water was my third book on Africa this year!
  6. I was JUST thinking about that- how random. Anyway, I am glad you are enjoying it, I can't decide which one is my favorite out of the 3. I've read quite a few of her books (11, I think) and have never been disappointed.
  7. I finished Gone by Michael Grant and am half way through The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory... at 350 pages or so. Still, nice to see that 50% on the screen.
  8. I plan on The Last Runaway in 2016
  9. Brandon Sanderson will complete The Reckoners trilogy with Calamity February 15th.
  10. I was just talking about this book in Tim's thread! I must get to it next year. It's so massive, so good to hear ^^
  11. I haven't read The Crimson Petal... but hear such good things from here. It's on the list for next year (at 920 pages). I wonder if The Reckoners will end up a trilogy? Or has it aimed to be all along?
  12. I think the new review system is great! It looks nice and works really well.
  13. No, no, I'm sure its you I read in small sessions too, I get too nervous to sit and read for hours. WOW!
  14. That's on my TBR for next year, like actually on a list, so I'll be curious to see how you like it! Well, I am grateful! I had a terrible reading day yesterday, I just couldn't find time to read! I am at 55% in Gone by Michael Grant... so about 319 pages. I got an early start today though!
  15. Just FYI, there is a Persepolis 2! Michelle- your enthusiasm is contagious- great, just what I need, something to spend more money on!
  16. Yup- 87 last year, 103 the year before!
  17. The Michael Faber is always described as so dark and the cover is creepy, it keeps putting me off! I don't know why. It was listed as one of the most disturbing reads in a thread. Have you read The Crimson Petal and the White? And Sanderson's Calamity will be out February 16th... although with the mess that was Firefight...
  18. Wow- I loved this read, it might be my favorite of the year. Consider it a payback for telling me The Alchemist sucked You might like the book I am currently reading, Gone by Michael Grant. Congrats on the 100! Oh, do! It's not that long at all, I want to say about 120 pages. I stayed up last night reading ^^ Gone by Michael Grant and ended up reading about 230 pages yesterday. Which is good, considering it's 580 pages
  19. Yes! Read the book and you will probably change your mind. The radio version from 1938 is good too.
  20. I thought it'd be more! You read so fast! No problem for you, happy reading! I'm at 73 books and hope to get two more in before the end of the year. I've never gone for an "even" number before.
  21. Don't. Really. Just kidding And I'm glad you were able to enjoy BBC Magazine, I buy it issue by issue, but I find I want most of them!
  22. No, my mom wanted to see it, but we haven't yet. I thought I'd read the book first too, but then found the book too sad! Well, I am done messing around with just "ok" books. I gave up The Prettiest One by James Hankins. I was into it, but it wasn't making me grab my kindle. So, on Gaia's suggestion I picked up Gone by Michael Grant and I am loving it! It's long though, about 600 pages. And there are 6 of them! Next year is starting to look like the year of the series.
  23. Not one to miss! It's written from the perspective of a girl living in Iran during the revolution.
  24. Ya know, I was just telling Gaia, that man can write a complete story in 5 pages, but his longer ones can be hit and miss. You should try some of his shorter stuff, he used to have some for free on his site... but now I can't find them. He wanted to make them free, but his publisher wouldn't let him, so he sells them for just under a dollar. I wouldn't go with the Beacon series, but I can recommend Glitch, Second Suicide or The Walk Up Nameless Ridge. I also enjoyed The Shell Collector, which is under 300 pages. But well done on finishing this series, I will try and do Wool this year... maybe just not the whole trilogy
