  1. LOVE Up in Smoke! Cheech Marin is hilarious. I like him in Robert Rodriguez films too.
  2. Has anyone seen The Purge? It looks so good, but I'm afraid it will scare me half to death. Just check out the cover!
  3. I am seeing the end of the tunnel with The Fountainhead. I am 92% in and just read a "key" conversation that I think opened my eyes like none of the discussions in the book previously. A bit of a "a-ha!" moment. I don't know the end yet but I can see it comin'. Woohoo! And I think my review is almost done. That bites! I hate not being able to read. You're just in a slump, don't worry Seems to be going around lately. Maybe we're so pumped up in the beginning of the year, it peters out in the middle of the year! It's good to see you around though!
  4. Pecan, coconut crème or apple with a slice of cheddar
  5. Montana was beautiful, with tons of dark green rolling hills, interlaced with little streams and brooks with pastured horses. Took us 3 days it was so huge. But mostly, South Carolina's coast, blue waters and white beaches, uncrowded shores. I could totally live in Charleston (SC), right on the harbor to the Atlantic. Quite a long ways from CA. On the screen today: Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars
  6. Unfortunately, no. We went from Manhattan to Boston, then across upstate NY (like through Albany), which was GORGEOUS! Then on to Buffalo, NY to see Niagara Falls. Bangor was on the schedule, until we realized just HOW far it really was. It would have taken at least a week to get from Albany to Bangor and back with maybe a day or two to travel/ sightsee/ stay there. We left April 1st and didn't want to be gone into June. But it was hard to not go. We did stay on Broadway in Manhattan though, on the 20- something floor of The Millennium, and watched some window washers one morning on the building next to us. They were on that scary bridge/ scaffolding thing and everything. Even took a smoke break up there. It was so stereotypical, it was funny. But frightening to watch! We lost our camera in Oregon.
  7. Mercy! I hope you are ok! Free Four was included in some of the Four collections, so I wasn't sure if yours had it or not- I just ended up buying it (and The Transfer) on my own.
  8. Did you also read "Free Four" ? It's just his side of the knife throwing scene. Kinda interesting, but really short for the $.
  9. Ok, cause maybe I'm mixed up- I thought the Four books were The Transfer, The Initiate, The Son and The Traitor? I believe The Transfer is before Tris. I didn't know they switched timelines- I thought they were all before Tris. Hm. If you liked them, maybe I will give them a go during a read a thon... I have no idea what to read for August, but I think it might be 12 Years a Slave.
  10. My 5 year old is giggling in her sleep right now
  11. Really? That is so cool about waning to come here! NY is amazing- Alexi, Athena and I have just been talking about NY in Alexi's thread, about her upcoming trip to NY. It's hard to travel here because everything is so far away and there is virtually NO public transportation for US travel. My mom and I were lucky to drive the perimeter of the US and it took us 52 days to see 36 states! The book sounds epic. I just read the description to his book on Paris as well as Russka the other day. If you like NY, I might give it a go. I know major parts of NY history, but probably not 900 pages worth!
  12. No, I read The Transfer, one of the Four stories and hated it. It gave Four no depth (which was what I thought was the point) Basically, Roth needs Tris to keep Four interesting and motivated, which you can even tell from the series, if you think about it. His motivation is Tris. Always. Disappointing, because I had been looking forward to their release. The shorts by Hill and King are definitely short stories, not part of longer books and hold up by themselves. In the Tall Grass, a King/ Hill collaboration, was a really interesting one! Joe Hill's From the Twittering Circus of the Dead was good too at only 40 pages, in which, something does happen These are only a dollar. Which Hill do you have on your Kindle?
  13. Ya I can't wait to see what they do with PT1 AND 2! It's a lot to get in there, so I can see the 2 films out of the one book, but Lionsgate is doing the same with Allegiant and I just don't agree! When I think of Allegiant, I think of it being, like, 100 pages lol
  14. Oh, I WILL finish lol I won't give up now. I only have 20% left. It's good, I don't want anyone to think I'm slogging through a terrible book! It's just... intense. Yup- intense. perfect word. But I think a read-a thon break is just what I need I've read lots of Joe Hill- he is amazing! NOS4A2 and Horns are two of my favorites, but his Kindle Shorts are good too. Hill and King's shorts (father and son BTW) are cheap, even their collaborations. it's Veronica Roth's Four series that are on the pricy side here. Sorry- not paying $1.99 for a 30-50 page sub-standard book, that grasps at straws to tie in with Divergent.
  15. I can't wait either- I need Alexi's countdown app It looks good- I was wondering how they would do it- seems like they did a good job- as with the other two.
  16. You will LOVE The Lion King- I've not heard one single bad thing about it and my dad saw it with his wife and son and they all loved it too! If you can't get Lion King, try for Wicked. It's is a good Broadway musical too- about the witches in Wizard of Oz. Central Park is beautiful (But I liked walking around Green Park in London more). Across the street is the building where Lennon was shot and on the other side of Central Park is 5th Avenue. There is the main David Yurman store, if you like his stuff Tiffany's is there too and Ferragamo, etc. Dangerous lol but so fun to window shop or just go in for a peak. I'm not sure about the Statue of Liberty steps, they just opened up not too many years back, but ya, you don't want to go all that way and not be able to get to the top (it was still closed when I went the first time, the second time we did not go to TSOL but I don't like heights anyway).
  17. Oddly enough, the year after her birth By now, I've looked and bookmarked so many different versions! I am trying to make up my mind now between Tim's suggested copy or the link above. One is $50 more than I wanted to spend, but Tim's is in the right area- and I can get that one through an Amazon bookstore, not just Abe Books, which I found a tad sketchy after contacting some for more info.
  18. Linda Lafferty is sorta a guilty pleasure of mine- I can recommend The Bloodletter's Daughter. My favorite book of all time is The Good Earth. Have you read Memoirs of a Geisha? You might even like Evita, First Lady by John Barnes. Eddit- Oh Snap- Midwives by Chris Bohjalian, should've mentioned that.
  19. Got this as a Kindle Sample. It was recommended. I haven't read any of his stuff before so it's good to hear! The description sounds interesting, a tad complicated and confusing, but interesting...
  20. "Our Leader the Mockingjay" Official trailer was released today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzcYyzCZdiM
  21. Just read Hilary Mantel (Wolf Hall) will have a piece on Thomas Cromwell in September's BBC Magazine. It comes out August 14th.
  22. Oh- if you went back to that, you saw my Prey rant Anyway, you're not missing anything by not being able to read horizontal! Thanks for all the input on my list- these are the ones I must absolutely read asap. So many books, so little time- so true!
  23. How's New York treatin' ya?
  24. I had NO idea he write Coraline. I have wanted to read this book for- ever. It is still in my Kindle Sample list. I wanted to see the movie too.
