  1. Sonia, and I hope that you enjoy the forums. You have a love of books, and the passion to talk about books too!
  2. Ooh, that was a great review of A Fraction of the Whole . It sounds just the ticket for me - I love a streak of misanthropy! (I could do with emoticon for that too... ) That book is now on my public library reservation list . An misanthrope made happy!
  3. Finished A Tale for a Time Being . A review is in process.
  4. Ah, the joy of finding just the right books in charity shops! And finding children's' books in charity shops are so rare, they're like hen's teeth! I hope your great-nephews will love the Roald Dahl books - that is another feeling of a warm glow when they love books too
  5. It is a good book so far. I think the reviews for Booker Prize short list on BBC 4 were a bit sniffy about this book, but I think it is worth it.
  6. Hopefully no trees were felled for the eBooks Plus, all those ones were less than £7.00 Makes be a happy bunny!
  7. 89% read of A Tale for a Time Being, and hope to finish it today. I had to stop reading it last night - it was starting about Schrödinger's Cat, and it was not the time of the day to try to follow quantum physic
  8. Hello Tonya, and to the Forums. Hope you enjoy the forums
  9. It's so beautiful! I think that the two styles of architecture work wonderfully together.
  10. Went a bit book crazy with the cheap and freebie eBook store Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow by Jerome K Jerome Best Russian short stories by Alexander Pushkin, Nikolai Gogol and Leo Tolstoy War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy The Book of Tea by Kakuzo Okakura Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham Precious Bane by Mary Webb. To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf. The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. Shirley by Charlotte Brontë. The Man Upstairs and Other Stories by PG Wodehouse. The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe. Human, All Too Human by Friedrich Nietzsche The Arabian nights by Andrew Lang. 140 Classic Novels and Short Stories by HH Munro
  11. Yes, a sad day . But at least we can listen to Perfect Day again and again
  12. Camus's The Plague is one of my favourite books , and it is a 'slow burner' type of book, but is one that stayed in my mind for a long time. I hope you enjoy it, as is worth the effort in the end.
  13. Welcome to the BCF bballuk I have only just stared reading the Sherlock Holmes books recently , but I wish I had read them earlier - they were the beginning of forensic science I hope that you enjoy the Forums.
  14. Well vodkafan, at least the kindle books are easy to store , not like 'tree books'
  15. Thought of this one.... Then naturally, followed by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Who4OL08iR8 Both are glorious songs, and the second tract always makes me want to dance
  16. Wow, a TBR of 734!! :clapping:Like, WOW! Little Pixie . The thought of storing them makes me go ( )
  17. It is very good as a psychological thriller , but I think I might need some 'pick-me-up' reading of Jeeves and Wooster after I finished with Purge
  18. Hello Selina, and . I'm sure you will enjoy the forums, and the members are a very friendly bunch
  19. Well, at first I was having problems getting into Purge. .Especially with the odd notes of Hans Pekka's diary, but now that I'm reading about Aliide's '1930-40's history, its more easier to understand her actions. Now the novel is intriguing me . But it is not going to be a 'feel good' sort of book, is it?
  20. Welcome to the forums, Sernicki. You enjoy a variety of genres , so you should fit in a lot of threads in the forums. I hope that you enjoy the forums, and there are so many members who love reading, and love to talk about them!
  21. Read 32% of A Tale of the Time Being, and read 156 pages (of 390!) of Sofi Oksanen's Purge
  22. I think that it might be good to start with English counties, but add further threads for Welsh, Scottish and Irish counties. Since I've never read Wuthering Heights, but recently I got a freebie ebook version, it would ideal for me to read Wuthering Heights for Yorkshire. I think that the suggestions for the other counties Yorkshire, Cornwall, Kent and Gloucestershire are good. I haven't read any of them, which is odd as they are 'classic' British novels!
  23. That was the best part of that bake off, they took it lightly, which is a good attitude. Beautifully put, Poppyshake about Paul & Mary being partial against everyone but Ruby, AGAIN!. They reminded me of being at school, with P & M being those nasty bitches, who were really 'popular' . I hope that it will work out in the end, and I will be cheering " Go Beverley" this week. But, ou est le cardie de Ruby?
  24. Have read 21% of A Tale for the Time Being. It's good, so far. I'm struggling with Morrissey's Autobiography - it's like reading a very long Morrissey lyric . There doesn't seem to have any paragraphs, just streams-of-conciousness as each chapters. Plus, there is no Table of Contents in this eBook, so I feel a bit disoriented reading this book. Edit: I am a fan of Morrissey, but I am surprised that Penguin Books has brought out his autobiography as a Penguin Classic.
