  1. Ulravox, The Cure, Squeeze, Elvis Costello and the Attaction(s)....we seem to have found a portal into the 80s . Could it be that we any hurtling towards our 50th birthdays soon-ish, and are getting all very nostalgic?
  2. I didn't even know they had done an album together! Oooh, and I've haven't listened to this Taj Mahal track for yonks.
  3. I gave up on In A Land of Plenty, only after 32 pages this morning, because the plot and characters were so dull. I have so many TBR books lying around, so at least this one is now going to the next charity bag. So now I will start on Lois Lowry's Gathering Blue as a library loan.
  4. I watched Aliens once at home, but never again! . Nor any of the sequels, ias t's just not my cup of tea. . But there is one film that I have seen many times, and have loved it every time is Psycho . Go figure that one, psychiatrists!
  5. ....

  7. Yes indeed, The Human and The Mangle Street Murders are excellent! Good haul there Kylie
  8. ... ... !!. And as for watching horror films . I don't think I've seen a horror film since Carrie – it was a great film but...*shudder*
  9. Good haul! The Reading Mojo has improved , plus In A Land of Plenty seems to be a breeze after Lady Oracle. This one seems a bit dull. . I should be starting Gathering Blue sometime this week! I'm interested how you get on with The Lovely Bones - I found it the beginning disturbing, and I was still was disturbed most of the book.
  10. I love it!!
  11. And after Jeff Buckley, I need something more upbeat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofkrK_ttyCg I have no idea what the lyrics mean, but hey, it sounds great to be
  12. Ohhh, my favourite Aretha song And I haven't seen this video for yonks... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR6pyJy--MQ
  13. Oh that's good having the 'spoilers included' in the thread Athena . Well, I've been thinking a lot about The Giver, and there so many aspects of the plot, so I was going to start just one of them. At the beginning the society, and the structures of the Sameness, I thought that it was an utopia (or as close to an utopia in novels). But as Jonas begins his training as the Receiver, we discover that things are not so pleasant - the true nature of Releasing in particular, (though there was a inkling that it was very similar in present day ideas of euthanasia). The most chilling part for me was 'releasing' of the second identical twin. Did anyone feel that this was the beginnings of Sameness become a dystopia?
  14. I've now finished reading Lady Oracle!! . Next tree-book will be Tim Pears's In A Land OF Plenty. This one looks like a tome - 650 pages
  15. I would love to know how the librarians knew I was telling them fibs.... . The rules are good though
  16. Scott was still hot, but the characters were all a bit hyper, but then I am an introverted British so I could be too critical. Scott's acting seemed just over eager, but maybe I was expecting too much. let's hope I gets better, or my expectations less.
  17. Watched the last episode of NCIS/first episode of NCIS: New Orleans last night. Being a fan of Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap was looking forward to see Scott portraying Special Agent Dwayne Pride, but the whole episode was….rather embarrassing. It seemed to be an advertisement for New Orleans as a travel destination; so we had music, food and an almost mythical atmosphere of New Orleans filmed – but it was in an excruciating way. I always have a low cringe threshold, but watching this had me squirming like a worm within the first ten minutes. Oh dear Scott, I hope that this series calms down in this series.
  18. Ooh, I will have a look at The Sabri Brothers, never heard any Qawwali apart from NFAK. You have a very eclectic music tastes - just like mine!! It's quite rare too!
  19. I didn't really plan on borrowing much, so I tried to stick to shorter children's and Young-Adult reads. I do want to read some of my own books too, sometime.. But I couldn't help borrowing these books when I saw them. And I still have several library loans that are due sooner than these, too . What can I say, I like books . We know exactly what you mean, books are irresistible!
  20. I haven't heard him for a while either - then it's great to rediscover him again!
  21. I loved Trio Bulgarka on Kate's Sensual World album. That album is so good, and listening to Never Be Mine always makes me go all goosebumpery.
