  1. Collected Walter Moers' The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear from the library this afternoon . I didn't realise that it could be a such a weighty tome! A hardback book of 703 pages, it was a heavy!! I really will have to get some serious reading this weekend, with three books on the go, and they are library loans as well Oh heavens, I've just remembered that there is also Sonnets from the Portuguese and Other Poems by Elizabeth Barrett Browning soon to read as well .
  2. . The Humans is wonderful, isn't it!!
  3. Philosophy and poetry this time with Michel de Montaigne's How We Weep and Laugh at the Same Thing and Sappho's Come Close . I have managed to restrain myself from buying any today, but there are still a few more hours to go, so....
  4. It really did turn out good, and there were leftover for teatime tonight
  5. It was a case of nom nom nom nom ! it really was delicious, and It used up a disappointing, dry brioche loaf.
  6. It's a Delia Smith recipe, and it always comes out really well. A ha! The timer just went Bing!!
  7. Baking an orange marmalade flavoured bread and butter pudding *drool*
  8. Oh heck, these little black numbers are addictive! I have bought another 2 of them, so I must stop doing this.
  9. Ooh what lovely birthday books! Mrs Hemingway by Naomi Wood is on my library list, so I would be interested to know what you think of that book.
  10. It taught me that I should put the toilet seat lid down before I have bottles, cans etc around. But it is not easy to remember all the time. I have had real disasters in the kitchen though. Curry paste and beetroot were the worst experiences!
  11. That's very true indeed!
  12. I really can't have any more tree books, as there isn't any space now, not even little black penguins They would look great in a bookcase , but I have no space at all not even these minimalistic beauties! But they do look lovely as Kindle versions too.
  13. Oh poor frankie! . That sort of thing has happened to me too - a domino effect when you would be impossible to happen, but it does! Thank goodness that the mascara hasn't become lodged in the pipes.
  14. I saw the Penguin website yesterday, and they are beautiful (but the wheel of fortune thing is a bit annoying ) I have bought 2 Kindle editions just now - A Cup of Sake Beneath the Cherry Trees by Kenko (prose) and Lips too Chilled by Matsuo Basho (haiku poems) . And they are 49 pence each
  15. I think that the acronym is actually harder to remember than the whole of it!! Definitely need to use a post-it note for that title
  16. Wow, you have got some great book fun there! The title of Horrific Sufferings of the Mind-Reading Monster Hercules Barefoot: His Wonderful Love and His Terrible Hatred must be the most complicated one I've seen! And 3 books for 60 cents!! *Ker chinck*
  17. Started The Rosie Effect, and it's great so far. Don is his usual self, I'm really excited that too.
  18. Parvenu is a great new word! The new word for me is exiguous - something that is too small or inadequate.
  19. Well I intend to read on both weekends, as I have quite a couple of library books with only three weeks loans
  20. I used to be embarrassed, when I was young, but now I don't feel worried is it is a guy at the checkout, but I haven't had the strange experience that you had - that would have been creepy . I usually have a very stony face if there is a young guys handling sanitary stuff, just to make sure that I would't take any with them, if they were immature :I-Agree:But I know that it's quite irrational Plus these wrappings are supposed to be silent or have a 'whisper effect', it always seems noisy in public loos. Thank heaven for disabled toilets for me, then I have the peace and quiet alone
  21. A great review of Thirteen Reasons Why , so that one will go on my library wish list.
  22. I know this track always has more of a summer-ish feel about it, but....it makes me feel on a dreich day.
  23. ! I haven't heard of those two for years, but they are soooo wonderful .
  24. I'm really glad that Son was good, and a good ending for the quartet . The Humans is such a wonderful book too . Had a trip to the library this morning, so I now have The Rosie Effect to read next . Then it will be Angela Thirkell's High Rising after TRE
