  1. There are autistic people (If I can say it like that?) who say The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is not really an accurate portrayal (I read this on a website somewhere). Link to an article written by someone with autism about The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I read several more some time ago but I can't seem to find them right now. I liked the book when I read it years ago, but I'm thinking of re-reading it and seeing how I get on with it now (but I'm also scared that I won't like it as much). It's true that some autistic characters in fiction, particularly if the book is written by someone who doesn't have much experience with autism, can be stereotypes or not so fitting. I have also heard that between autistic people, autistic people among themselves are as different from each other, as people without autism are from each other. If that makes sense? You're right, we all experience things differently. A lot of fictional characters with autism are boys/men. There aren't as many girls and women in fiction who have autism, and for girls/women the symptoms can be a bit different than for boys/men. I love that you read books to try and understand what your sister is going through! An autistic woman wrote (but I can't find the article online anymore), that sometimes in books written by authors who don't know a lot about autism (not #OwnVoices, ie. not an author who has autism themselves), the autistic character who narrates has a specific quircky style of thinking, that is not really how autistic people think. I tried to find the article through Googling, in my bookmarks, and on the computer (I might have saved it), but I can't seem to find it yet. If I find it at a later time, I'll let you know. I have to go now and take care of my animals, but if I think of anything to add to this later today or tomorrow or such, I'll reply. EDIT: I found this article on the autism voice and narrative devices. I also believe I scrolled through this page and clicked on articles that interested me, ie. this article on autistic representation I found very interesting and made me think of things I didn't see before.
  2. that's true for me too.
  3. I like it a lot too !

  7. A Night on the Orient Express by Veronica Henry.
  8. Zoo City by Lauren Beukes.
  9. I read Alison Evans - We Go Forward. This is a story of two girls who are both travelling (and who are both from Australia) and who meet in Berlin. They decide to travel together. I liked spending time in the places they travelled to (I've been to one of them myself) and reading about the things they did and saw, and I liked the characters. I couldn't quite understand a few of their traits / things they did though (ie. one of them gets drunk), though that's probably because I was never the typical teenager. One of the main characters, Christie, is aromantic asexual and the other, Roslyn, is bisexual. One of them is a person of colour, though it doesn't play any role in the book and I think it's only mentioned once or twice. The book is told from both of their points of view, alternating. I sometimes forgot whose point of view I was reading from, I felt the two voices could have been more distinguinshed from each other. The book is relatively short, ~164 pages, and I wish we'd have seen a bit more of the sibling of one of the main characters (Jalen, who identifies as non-binary). It was nice to read about the adventures they went on, though I did feel there didn't seem to be many twists or suspense. The book did contain a few heavy moments that I liked a lot. I struggled a bit about halfway through the book, I found myself not so much in the mood anymore to read it, for some reason, I didn't really feel like continuing on reading. I think I just felt in the mood for a different genre of book, but I didn't want to read two books at once. Later though I got more into the mood of this book as more things happened in the story with the characters, the story became a bit more interesting. I liked the focus on friendship in this book. There aren't a lot of books with an asexual main character, so it's definitely nice there are a few for those people who identify as such. Overall it was just an okay book for me.
  10. I just saw it too, it was pretty good indeed !
  11. No, I think that is fine . It's awesome they gave you the books for free ! And it's nice you got to keep the omnibus !
  12. I read Claire Kann - Let's Talk About Love, a YA contemporary fiction book about a 19-year-old biromantic asexual black woman. It's the author's debut novel. I finished the book in one day. I found it an interesting read. I've never read a book about an asexual main character before, and while I don't know if it is an accurate portrayal, it was nice to read about something that I haven't read much about before. A couple of things about the novel could have been better, I felt the side characters weren't as fleshed out as the main character, but overall I enjoyed reading the book a lot.
  13. I agree , they were part of the reason I picked up the books. I plan to read the second book for the next read-a-thon, in April (and the third one in May and fourth in June).
  14. I picked this book up a little while ago when the paperback was in Amazon's sale. It's nice to read your review . I'm glad you liked the book.
  15. Good luck with your new job today ! I hope you can get some reading done on your daily train journeys. I used to read quite a bit on the train when I went to university.
  16. I'm glad you had a great trip ! We've been having problems with our sewer since a few days, but gladly it looks like they've just fixed it .
  17. We've been watching series/season 7 of Death in Paradise. I'm really enjoying it so far! We've seen 5 out of 8 episodes now.
  18. Playful (my first thought was Ubbe, who is my aunt's dog and he's a sheepdog. He's very playful, so that will have to do as an association).
  19. Thanks ! I think you'd like it .
  20. Wow, quite a few reviews! I'm glad you enjoyed your re-read of The Light Fantastic, it was that one and The Colour of Magic that made me fall in love with the Discworld series (and so after reading those two books, I then went out and bought several more in the series).
