That all makes sense
. I wish you a wonderful time!

Hmm, it seems I've been really slacking this month in reporting the Top 5 Wednesday topics.
April 11: Auto-Buy Scifi and Fantasy Authors
Author's Note:
-- This month's crossover topic is your auto-buy authors that write SFF.
My top 5 (on top off my head):Brandon Sanderson
Peter F. HamiltonScott Meyer
Karen Miller
Trudi Canavan
April 18: Ideal Mash-Ups
Author's Note:
-- You know those comp titles they list in synopses that read something like "perfect for fans of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones"! What would be some of your favorite mash ups, that would make you pick up a book? "A mix of ________ and ___________." Remember, you can also incorporate games, tv, movies, etc. Get creative!I can't really think of anything yet here, such stickers don't normally make me pick up a book to be honest.
April 25: Favorite Fandom Items
Author's Note:
-- Whether it's something you own or something you are lusting after, what are some of your favorite fandom items/merch/memorabilia? Your picks don't all have to be from the same fandom! My favourites (book fandoms only, not sure if TV/movies/videogames is/are allowed or not):
- My Matilda cushions made by my boyfriend (from purchased fabric)
- My Matilda bedsheets set + pillow cases
- My A Song of Ice and Fire Stark bookends
- My Readathon T-shirt featuring logos from 3 different fandoms
I do have some bookish pillows and another favourite bookish T-shirt but they're not from specific fandoms. I also have some bookmarks.

The next read-a-thon will take place next weekend, the 4th, 5th and 6th of May (next Friday, Saturday and Sunday). I'm going to be pretty busy on the 5th, so I'm planning to start on Thursday 3rd of May (for myself). I hope someone will be joining me for this May read-a-thon.

I think my question has been sufficiently answered, thanks everyone who responded.
I don't think anyone was trying to offend anyone else, we're all stating our opinions and what a debut means to us. I think it's okay to let the thread go away quietly?

Yeah it's about the same weather here. Tonight they expect thunderstorms, I hope it won't be too bad.

Is it normal not to have a passport in the UK? As far as I know, in my own country (the Netherlands), you are required by law to be able to identify yourself, be that with either a passport or an ID-card. In some situations a driver's license can suffice (or some other types of document), but not all (to my knowledge!). I'm not sure how it works in the UK though (or in other countries for that matter, I've heard in the US many people don't have a passport?).
It must be difficult having to eat gluten free when you're going overseas and have to take care of your meals through restaurants and shops and food you aren't necessarily familiar with (or in a different language!).
I wish you a great holiday
! I hope you have a lovely time and great weather

I read Becky Albertalli - Simonverse 3: Creekwood 2: Leah on the Offbeat. This is the third novel by Becky Albertalli and it features a couple of the same characters as in Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. Leah was a side character in that book (and is the main character of Leah on the Offbeat). This book takes place after that one.
I really enjoyed reading Leah on the Offbeat. Leah was an interesting character. I liked the writing style. It was nice to see some of the characters from Simon vs., and even the characters from The Upside of Unrequited were briefly mentioned. It was really nice to spend time with these nice characters again. I also liked the Harry Potter references, and the general geeky references. Overall I quite enjoyed reading this book.

I've gotten my mojo back!
At least for now! After the Manson book, I read Fiona Barton's The Widow in only a few days!!
I didn't want to put the book down!! And then I started reading The Cold Song by Linn Ullmann and I only have maybe 60 pages left, and I've really enjoyed this one, too!!
I'm so happy!!
My initial plan was to read Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine after the Manson book, and I did start it, but I couldn't remember most of what I had read the next day!
I did like what I was reading when I was reading it, but the story just didn't stick in my mind. I think it has to do with me having read a huge non-fiction book in English, and I just had to read something in Finnish. I read The Widow in Finnish and I'm reading The Cold Song in Finnish too. I just needed something in my own language for a change. I'm sure I'll be able to get back to English novels any time now
Although, I have borrowed the latest Herman Koch book from the library! I do want to read that one, too. (It's in Finnish.)Yay for you having your mojo back
!!
I get about wanting to read something in your own language, I need a mix of reading Dutch and English books.

Since my last post I've acquired a few books.
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn - a book swap book. I've read the book before, wanted to have it as I will re-read it at some point
Jännittääkö? by Kari Aavasto, Pia Kaulio and Sirpa Syrjälä - a book about being anxious and stuff. A charity shop find.
Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts - A charity shop find. A few friends have recommended this to me. Quite a heavy novel
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell - A charity shop find. I was so happy to find this!! I loved reading the book a few years ago, I devoured the whole thing. It's not for everyone, and it won't be my favorite novel ever, or even in the top 100, but it was such a great read at the time
I hope to enjoy it once again!
The Red Notebook by Antoine Laurain - A charity shop find. I've read some positive reviews of this novel and so I had to buy it
Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter - A charity shop find. I've borrowed the book from the library a few times but I never managed to read it. Now I can read the book whenever
Yay for new books
!! Great finds!

I hope you enjoy a book further along in the series
. Shame about the sexism though, I think that would annoy me. Sorry you had problems with the last 15%

We did have some lovely warm weather last week .. but it's drizzly and cold again now

I'm glad you liked The Great Alone
. I'll probably get it when it's out in medium size paperback.

I plan to read this book eventually, so it's nice to hear your thoughts on it
. I've seen a couple of glowing reviews so it's nice to read one that mentions a few 'negatives' too

I plan to go and watch Every Day tomorrow. I read a teaser in a newspaper and I like the premise of the story. A wandering soul that wakes up in a different body every day. Sometimes randomly inhabiting a male body, sometimes a female. But somebody notices and becomes interested. Apparently it is from a book. I am hoping it concentrates on the weird supernatural element of the story not the romance otherwise I am going to look pretty singular sitting there in a cinema full of teen girls.
It's based on the book Every Day by David Levithan. I haven't read the book myself (it's on my TBR) so I don't know how romance heavy it is. But given that it's YA I would presume the romance will be at least a part of the story.

I had a lovely weekend in Essex last weekend, catching up with family I hadn't see for over a decade! And we had such beautiful weather in a really lovely part of the country.
My new cat Molly is back now (she stayed with her former owner while I was away) and is causing me grief with her upset tummy. I think it's all the moving around she's done lately stressing her out. But the cleanup operations first thing aren't fun!
Your weekend sounds lovely
.
I hope Molly will feel better soon

Their house is big and has central A/C (which is great because we're having a little bit of summer weather up here), plus they have a nice back patio that will be perfect for getting some reading done. I'm planning on bringing over a ton of books! It's the house I grew up in, so it's sort of my happy place.
I hope you have a great time there
!
It's King's Day here today. I'm not planning on going out. I expect it will be noisy this afternoon and this evening / tonight. I am wearing an orange T-shirt in honour of our King.

The plot and the characterisation, probably.
At the time of watching it was more specific than that, but it's true, a couple of things about the plot and with the characters didn't quite make sense to me.

The new tumble dryer is brilliant and the oven arrived this morning, so we will try that for the first time tonight. Other than that Coran and I had a good weekend with lots of reading and sunshine. Next week I will have even more as one week today I fly to Kotor in Montenegro for a week. It looks gorgeous and the weather forecast is just perfect for me - sunshine and 22-24 degrees. I have booked a studio apartment with a sofa bed and my hosts have very kindly agreed to pick me up at the airport which is very nice of them I thought. This time next week then I will no doubt be sitting in the sun somewhere scenic.
Thanks June

I'm glad you got the new tumble dryer and oven. I wish you a wonderful and sunny holiday next week

I read Virginia Andrews - M'n lieve Audrina (My Sweet Audrina). I read a lot of V. C. Andrews' books when I was in high school, and I hadn't read one in years. I enjoyed reading this book. About halfway through, I suddenly felt like I'd read the book before. I've had this copy of the book just a couple of years, so I think I borrowed it from the library back when I was in high school. It was fun and nostalgic to re-read this book. Some crazy stuff happens. A couple of things in the book I liked less. Overall I enjoyed reading this book, it was an interesting story.
