I finished reading the graphic novel of Anya’s Ghost by Vera Brosgol, and really enjoyed it.
I read that a few months ago and I liked it a lot too
.
I'm glad you had fun reading
. I've heard good things of Circe, I hope you enjoy that and The Curse of the Pharaohs also.

Yes, I did enjoy 'The Alchemist'. It was like an old fable. Have you ever read it?
No, but it's on my TBR. I'm glad you enjoyed it
.

You read a lot! I'm glad you had fun during the read-a-thon
. Shame about the DNF and the disappointing ending of On the Other Side. Did you like The Alchemist?
-
During the May read-a-thon I read the following books (sorry that the 'thoughts' on them are pretty short, I'm tired).
Konami Kanata - The Complete Chi's Sweet Home 3 (7-9): Part 3
It was nice to read this, Chi is cute.Akiko Higashimura - Princess Jellyfish 3 (5-6): Volume 3 (Kuragehime 5 & 6)
I quite liked reading the next installment(s) of this series. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger though, but it does make sense to break up the story there.Keiko Tobe - With the Light 3: Volume 3 (re-read)
It was nice to re-read this. I re-read books 1 and 2 one after the other, and I then didn't find myself in the mood to continue. I decided, since I was reading Part 3 and Volume 3 of The Complete Chi's Sweet Home and Princess Jellyfish, I'd try (re-)reading Volume 3 of With the Light and then continue reading one book per read-a-thon. It worked out quite well, I enjoyed re-reading this.Christel Land (ill. Shanaka Thisara) - The Superhero Brain
This was a nice book that shows autism in a positive light.Sarah Andersen - Sarah's Scribbles 1: Adulthood is a Myth
Sarah Andersen - Sarah's Scribbles 2: Big Mushy Happy Lump
Sarah Andersen - Sarah's Scribbles 3: Herding Cats
These are collections of comics. I found a lot of them relatable, a few less so. I quite liked reading these.Tom Gauld - Mooncop
This was a touching story about a police officer on the moon. The art style is nice and interesting.Brian Selznick and David Serlin - Baby Monkey, Private Eye
I was a bit disappointed by this, though it's probably my own fault thinking it was going to be more like Brian Selznick's YA books, when it is in fact more suited for younger children. I did enjoy it though, and I liked the illustrations.Emily Carroll - Through the Woods
These are a couple of horror-y short stories. I found them quite creepy! Sometimes I wished a story would have gone on beyond the ending, as I wasn't sure what would have happened after the ending. -
@Little Pixie I'm glad you're doing some nice reading too
!
@karen.d, did you read anything?
On Sunday I finished off Through the Woods by Emily Carroll, but I didn't read anything else. All in all I didn't read as much as I'd hoped for this read-a-thon, but Saturday was a pretty busy day and I had stuff to do on the other days too. I haven't decided yet whether to continue with my unread read-a-thon reads or to save them for the next one and read a 'normal' 'text'book instead.
The next read-a-thon will take place on the 1rst, 2nd and 3rd of June.

I am so behind on everything! We have just moved house and been without internet for about 2 weeks, so I have a lot of catching up to do.
I still have so many books to unpack (among other things to do) but have managed to get some reading done here and there.
Recently I finished The Elegance of the Hedgehog, which was just ok for me. I'm now reading The Spinster Wife by Christina McKenna and also A History of 20th Century Britain by Andrew Marr. Both are good but I feel like I need more time to concentrate on them.
Hopefully things will settle down and I can visit here a bit more regularly.
It must have been a hectic time! Good luck with all the unpacking and everything else to do. We do chat a bit on this forum
so I can imagine you have a lot to catch up on, good luck
!

May is not starting out to be a good month for me. Having cataract surgery next week, not a big deal but more serious things were detected in the very thorough tests that were run.
I'm so sorry
. That all sounds very scary. I hope they will take good care of you at the hospital. I'll be thinking of you.

I have read a book together with someone before (mostly by both reading it in the same week and then discussing the book after we had both read it), but from what I can tell what they mean on BookTube by a buddy read is that you agree to read certain chapters (or pages) per day or week, and then discuss those on Whatsapp or another messaging medium (I've watched a few 'How to Buddy Read' videos on BookTube). On BCF there are personal messages as well as the Group Reads forum.
Buddy reads don't appeal to me, because I generally can only really read one book at once and I'm very much a mood reader. I don't want to read further than the allotted chapters because I wouldn't want to spoil anything for someone else, but I generally only read one book at once so it means how much I read would be dependent on another person (or people), and I can't start another book alongside it because that confuses me. I would feel stressed if I was lagging behind. I'm very much a mood reader so I can't schedule my reading all that well. If I'm really not in the mood to read a specific book at a specific time (ie. of a month or in a year), then I won't enjoy it as much.
I've tried following along with some read-a-longs but I end up not feeling in the mood for the next scheduled book (ie. with Peter Likes Books book club or with the WoT-along by Bedtime Bookworm and Unicorn Hunter Books). I read one book for each of those (My Sweet Audrina and The Wheel of Time 2: The Great Hunt), but I'm not in the mood to read the next one scheduled (Heaven and The Wheel of Time 3: The Dragon Reborn, now they are onto book 4 already). Because I don't / can't read multiple books at once and because I am such a mood reader, I find it difficult to do a read-a-long, let alone a buddy read. I find it kind of a shame sometimes as it sounds like a lot of fun to discuss a book or book series with other people who read it at the same time.
But if you want to buddy read something with someone from BCF, maybe there are people who'd like to join you either via PM or in the Group Reads forum

I gave up on the 2nd Gourmet detective book in the end ; while I liked listening to the narrator, the book really wasn`t going anywhere and I got fed up of the way the women kept being described. And then the author made allusions to Fu Manchu when he was talking about a Chinese character.
I`ll stick to the films ; they`re fluff but entertaining fluff.
I hope you like the films more

The Winchester Witches are back for another mystery. Yay ! It's Winter and a beer delivery truck crashes in Hemlock Grove, leading Bay to cover the event for the paper, and Aunt Tillie to rush to the scene to sample the free beer. While taking photos, Bay falls over something in the snow...and the something turns out to be a body. There's an intriguing mystery and lots of funny lines, in a particularly good Witchy mystery with some interesting developments for Bay.
I'm glad you enjoyed the newest Wicked Witches mystery

It's sunny here today and while it's still a bit cold today, for the weekend they predict lots of sunshine and maximum temperatures around 25 °C.
-
It's May already! The year is going by fast sometimes.
This weekend I'll be seeing my siblings and their partners as they are coming over for a visit. We're planning to have a nice dinner with them and with my parents (so it's my parents and their children + partners). I'm looking forward to it. After that I'll probably need a few days of rest to recover from the tiredness.
What's going on with you in May?
-
It's May now, so time for a new book activity thread!
What are you currently reading? What's your bookish activity in May?
I'm currently reading The Complete Chi's Sweet Home Part 3 by Konami Kanata (the first of my read-a-thon reads). In terms of buying books, I am expecting some pre-orders this month. I've also cleaned up my TBR-soon shelves next to my desk.

I read Sam Killerman - A Guide to Gender. This was an interesting read. I taught me quite a lot, not just about gender but also about the way society looks at genders (because that's not the way I look at it). It has made me understand other people more. The illustrations were nice and helpful and funny, and I liked the humour in the text too. I also liked the references to food, movies, animals. Overall I found it an interesting read and one I'll probably think on for a while.
