I started read-a-thoning last night ; I read the last 15% of EE Holmes` Portraits of the Forsaken ( excellent :D  ) , the last 60% of David Handler`s The Man who Dies Laughing ( pretty good ), and the first 40% of the second David Handler/ Stewart Hoagy mysteries, The Man who lived by Night. :)

I have a month left of my Kindle Unlimited thingy, so I`m hoping to cram lots of books in. :D

Yay!! I hope you are able to read plenty more books before your Kindle Unlimited expires :).

    On Thursday I read:

    Akiko Higashimura - Princess Jellyfish 4: Volume 4 (Kuragehime 7 & 8)

    Konami Kanata - The Complete Chi's Sweet Home 4 (10-12): Part 4

Keiko Tobe - With the Light 4: Volume 4 (re-read)

    And on Friday I read:

    Clamp - Chobits 1: Volume 1

Simone Arts and Tante Beun - Fashion Academy 1: Flamenco meets flowerpower (re-read)

I don't think I'll be able to do much reading today as I have a lot of things to do, but we'll see.

Happy read(-a-thon-)ing to anyone who's doing some bookish reading this weekend :).

I have just added a book as read, and if I search for it, it says I have read it. However it is not on my read shelf nor been added to my challenge.  Hmm? Is this the problem that they say people have been having?

It's only added to your 2018 reading challenge, if you put the reading year as 2018. If you've left it blank, it won't count for your 2018 challenge as GoodReads then doesn't know what year you've read the book. I don't know why it's not on your 'Read' shelf though!

I think it was called A Proper Family Christmas?

It is very possible :) It certainly wasn’t the author’s writing so I will be more than happy to try her out again.

Ah, that one is book 2 in a series of books about the Benson Family. I read that before reading book 1, not realising it was part of a series. It's not really needed to read them in order but one gets more out of it if you read them in order. I'm glad it wasn't her writing, The Worst Case Scenario Cookery Club is a standalone so I hope you'll enjoy it more :).

  5. I read Tim Collins - Dagboek van een Vlogger (The Vlogger Diaries: Confessions of an Online Sensation). It's about a girl named Olivia who has no friends at her new school and who decides to start vlogging, because she wants to make money so she can go on her class trip to New York. But she's insecure and shy in front of the camera so Olivia hires another girl at her school to act out the scripts she (Olivia) writes, so it is a fake vlog. I enjoyed the book, it was good.

Btw, on the front of the cover of the book, the name of the publisher is misspelled and on the back the character's name is misspelled once. So that's a bit of a shame, but okay. I like the cover otherwise. It seems to be easier to find Tim Collins' books in Dutch translation rather than the English original, for the Dutch website I often buy stuff from. Even Amazon UK doesn't sell some of his (older) books new anymore.

Anyway, it was a nice read. I thought the translation was quite well done, and the book had some humour in it :).

I finally finished my Masters for the year (and perhaps forever, depending on how I feel in December!) It really was grueling, nowhere near as engaging or worthwhile as the cert before it. I was just aiming for passing grades by the end. Glad it's done, more time for me!

    Congratulations :flowers2:!!

I'm sorry the weather over there is too hot for you Noll :(. I hope it cools down for you soon.

@Madeleine I hope your weather improves soon!

It's been really hot here too, with temperatures between 26 - 32 °C during the past one or two weeks (I can't quite remember how long for!). It's been humid too. It's quite hot in the bakery so I've been wearing lighter clothes than my usual ones. It's quite hot outside. The weather predictions say it'll be a bit cooler by next weekend, and I'm hoping so! Michael and I would both like some cooler weather, let's say 15 - 25 °C. A lot of people in my country yesterday had heavy rain and hail and there are lots of water damages and floodings. We didn't get a spot of rain which is a shame because it didn't cool down, but then I'm also very very glad we don't have any flooding or water damage here.

I read the third Carole B Shmurak book, Death at Hilliard High ( v. good :) ) and started on Cherry Blossom Murder - Fran Pickering ( 5 chapters in - it`s whodunnit set in Japan ; I`m liking it, but maybe not as much Rei Shimura series by Sujata Massey. :)

So, 3 books and a bit for the May read-a-thon. :)

I'm so sorry I didn't reply to this sooner! That's great progress :)!

The next read-a-thon will take place this upcoming weekend, the 1rst, 2nd and 3rd of June (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).

Becky from The Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella

    Yes!! Agreed :D.

You can always reply to older ones :).

I haven't been posting the prompts for this month, because this month the original author is very busy, and it's actually the theme of this month to redo an old one!

  9. Today The Library of Souls by Richard Denney is free on Kindle (until June 1rst).

    Link to Amazon UK

    Link to Amazon US

This is a middle-grade ghost story that takes place in a library, which I read (in paperback) and liked a lot. I've been following Richard Denney on YouTube for a while and just saw him post on Instagram about The Library of Souls being free on Kindle until June 1rst, so I thought I'd spread the word.

Can I ask what the connection is between Monty Python and shrubs please, no offence meant!

Of course you can ask :)! Shrubs reminded me of the word 'shrubbery' which I've first heard in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (a film), in which the main characters encounter 'the Knights Who Say Ni'. The main characters of The Holy Grail are Arthur and his companions and they are trying to find the Holy Grail. In their travels they encounter The Knights Who Say Ni, who won't let them pass until they've been gifted a shrubbery. Sorry for being a bit obscure . (link to Wikipedialink to Wikipedia 2 - warning: Wikipedia contains spoilers for the film).

  11. Today I read Mirjam Mous - 2C. This is a YA thriller about a class of high school students, they are planning to go on a school trip in a bus. But when they've only just left the school, the students all get a strange message on their phones. It turns out there's a bomb on board the bus. The story is told through multiple points of view, and some chapters take place in the 'now' and others in the past. I thought the book was pretty suspenseful. I also liked that there was a bit of diversity in the teenagers and that the author addressed issues such as terrorism and racism. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this book, I enjoyed it a lot.

  12. I read Chrissie Manby - The Worst Case Scenario Cookery Club. I was really in the mood to read a book like this ('rom-com'), something a bit lighter and easier on the mind, fun, with themes of friendship and love between adults (I was feeling sick when I started this book, from what I think was a stomach bug). I had pre-ordered Chrissie Manby's newest release for last September (when it came out) but I didn't feel in the mood for it until now (and I pre-ordered her next release two days ago). I enjoyed reading this book, it was nice to have something lighter on the mind. There are some funny situations in the book. I liked the friendships between the characters. It's not absolute favourite of her novels but it is a good one, I enjoyed it.
