It's not that bad, you know! :(

No, it's not.

Do you mean type 1, because you're rather young for type 2 :(

Yes, my mistake.. I meant type 1.

LOL!

You have unwittingly(?!) caused great offense :(.

ICE = Institution of Civil Engineers

I'm a chemical engineer I'll have you know

IChemE = Institution of Chemical Engineers.

The odd snowball fight would not go amiss though, and as chemical engineers we could manufacture our own snow. :(

How have you gotten on with it.. it's not an easy thing to deal with as a child / teenager. :(

Your quotes keep getting lost in and amongst these lunatics. *Whistles to self quietly.*

I deal with it ok, I guess. I've just not really stopped to think about it from the off. It's like when I first started taking insulin they asked me if I wanted to practice on an orange. I was like "No, it's not the orange that needs to lower it's blood-sugar now, is it." Then just went and stuck the needle in my leg! (I didn't really like needles at the time.) I sounded really patronising and it shocked them a little bit, they were like, um, ok. Thankfully though I've been getting brilliant blood-sugars and averages, so I haven't had any major worries yet. Although they say my body could be producing some insulin because we caught it early.

1 I have a degree in maths (sadly have never used anthing I learnt & now can't remember any of it - was 20 yrs ago though)

2 I can drive a forklift truck

3 I have never placed a bet or bought a lottery ticket

4 I hate shopping (except for books of course!)

5 Never wear make-up & live in army boots for about 11 months & 3 weeks of the year

I love gambling and playing cards! I host an annual Game Night every year, where there's all sorts of gaming possibilities, tons of champagne and way too much fun... (my goal is usually break even on the tables)

4 I hate shopping (except for books of course!)

Erm... do I have to answer that, or do people know how I feel about the issue? *cracks up*

5 Never wear make-up & live in army boots for about 11 months & 3 weeks of the year

*stares in shock* I could never do that!

I've come up with exactly one way army boots could be included into my life. On the feet of otherwise-naked Ski Guy. He's the only guy I know who could pull it off. Oh, and there's my friends at the Marines, of course, but I prefer them in the pretty uniform with the blue coat!

I think this is funny just because every single item on your list, Bellatrix, I could say the EXACT opposite about:

1. I have a degree in Psychology.. I'm pitiful at math.

2. I've never set foot near a forklift in my life.

3. I looove going to the casino, and got to go to the Kentucky Derby last year -- my husband let me place bets based on how "pretty" the horses' names were.

4. I adore shopping.

5. I love all things girly, make-up included.. and have never set foot inside a pair of army boots.

Isn't it funny how the one common bond of books brings people like us together?

Indeed. I gaurantee there are people I talk to on here who wouldn't look at me twice irl, and vice versa. I like that kinda thing though, the fact that we do all talk together.

Me, too.. it's a real lesson in not judging a "book by its cover"

Having said that though, all we (and I mean we as a forum, not you and me :woohoo:) do is talk on here. Given our very different interests and lifestyles, being able to talk on here still doesn't mean we could get on irl :)

You're completely right.. but it's nice that in some wee way, we can still get along .. if it weren't for books and this board, we'd never know the others existed. :)

Thats entirely true. I love getting glimpses into other lives through boards like this. And I have met at least two people on this board who I KNOW I would get on unbelieveably with well irl, so thats awesome too!!

I do agree with what you're saying. I know that I talk to a range of people on here, whereas my friends mainly consist of people I went to school with, of a similar age and a similar background. I love speaking with different people. Also, being on a forum and typing gives me a lot more confidence than approaching people.
