  1. Good for you Laura, I hope things work out for you . We'd miss you, muggle! But if you feel you need to take a break, you should.
  2. Welcome here ! I own two books by Neal Stephenson, I haven't read them yet though.
  3. It's very sad . Some of his books are on my wishlist.

    Book News!

That's nice ! It's something I'm interested in buying (hopefully they'll release it in paperback too).
  5. I'm glad you both had a great time ! Hi back to Kell .
  6. x I might have to look into those! I also check the Kindle Daily Deal page (on Amazon.com), if I can daily, but at other times there'll be a week where I don't check it (when my boyfriend's here I spend less time behind the computer). I also check their monthly Kindle deals. Unfortunately for both of these, sometimes a book shows up at one price on the deal page, but at a higher price when you click on it (because I have to pay extra since I'm not from the US). Some other times, the book isn't available for me. These things always suck (ie. the deal says buy it for $1.99, I click on it and it says $9.99, or unavailable in your region). But sometimes it is available and that's very nice! I've bought quite a few books through deals now. I also own some free ones (most of them found through the Kindle Buffet website) and some that weren't bought on a deal but that I really wanted (ie. books that aren't available in paper format). @ poppyshake I hope your arm feels better soon!
  7. I also look forward to see your books, Devi! x x I already do this XD!
  8. I like Julia Roberts too! She is such a great actress. I'm not a fan of Brad Pitt. I'm not really sure why, I think it's because many people rave about him and I just don't see the appeal, or something.
  9. I read about it when I googled read-a-thon (when I made this thread), I didn't know anything about it before then. It sounds like a great cause!
  10. Awww I hope you'll be allright, Noll. That sounds like a very tough situation.
  11. x You seem to be reading quite a few classics ! Did you like The Great Gatsby?
  12. You're not a hypocrit, frankie! Often family members or people you know really well, are the hardest to deal with. You shouldn't feel bad, it makes sense what all that's happened. I don't have time to write a longer post atm, but I hope you feel better about this soon.
  13. Awww poor you Laura! I hope you feel better soon and that you find a nicer, better job, you definately deserve to be treated better (ie. with respect).
  14. If it was possible, I would share !
  15. I don't often re-read books for the same reason, I have many unread ones on my shelf, however there are quite a few books in my collection I've reread many times (especially at a younger age). Most of these are books I bought and read for the first time, when I was a child or a teenager. Examples include some Ann M. Martin's BabySitter's Club series, some of Roald Dahl's books, some Thea Beckman's books, some R. L. Stein's books, David B. Coe - The Lontobyn Chronicles.. I plan to do more re-reading in the future, some books are just brilliant, I really want to read them again.
  16. I didn't have that much problem with the oddly named characters, I've read more books which have that. It is a bit complex but I was able to follow most of the story when I read it the first time, when I was 15. I don't know what that tells you though as I'm pretty intelligent (sorry if this comes off as arrogant! ), I can't judge how well you normally fare with this type of thing but just thought my information might help . Maybe one day you can give it a try. I understand being intimidated by a book though, many classics intimidate me (ie. Leo Tolstoy - War and Peace, that seems a complicated and big book to me).
  17. I hope you both have a lot of fun ! It can be great to meet up with someone you know from an online place. My boyfriend and I met this way (we became friends first), and I've met other people this way too (friends I'm no longer in touch with, for various reasons). It can be weird at first, but soon you'll discover that that person really is the one you know from online! It can be a great experience .
  18. It'd be great if you could join, Janet . If not, I wish you lots of fun spending time with your daughter.
  19. That's difficult! But it'll be great for you two to have a nice dinner, just try and keep thinking about that. Maybe put the packages somewhere where you don't see them all the time, it might help. Good luck .
  20. I would just like to second Jostein Gaarder - Sophie's World. This is the first book I read on philosophy and it taught me a lot (it's also an entertaining story). There is also a book Philosophy for Dummies which could be another good place to start. I've been reading other For Dummies books lately and they are pretty good.
  21. That's great to hear (that you enjoyed Dodger I mean)! It's on my wishlist, I'm waiting for the paperback release.
  22. @ Kidsmum I understand, I hope you have a fun time though with your children . I just realised that the date I posted was wrong, it should be 31-05 01-06 02-06. My apologies! (though I assume you were all able to work it out). When the time comes, please, feel free to post progress here, how things are going. Long reviews should go into your own review thread (if you have one) (personally I plan on jotting down thoughts after each book but not posting them until the read-a-thon is over), some progress may also be posted in the Your Book Activity thread. Any progress not including reading, such as where you're located, how you can concentrate, maybe what you're doing food wise, etc. should probably go in this topic and not in the Your Book Activity thread.
  23. Thanks ! What will you read next?
