  1. I have a few David Gemmell books on the shelf (though I plan to buy more of the series, I want to read them in order), glad to hear you liked this one! Nice review .
  2. I think they are abbreviations of book titles? GotM could be Gardens of the Moon, one of the books of Steve's beloved Malazan book series. I don't know if this is the case for all of them, but the abbreviations seem to match up with titles of books in the series. This is my guess anyway, let's see what Steve says .
  3. I haven't read his blogs but I follow him on Facebook. He seems like a really nice guy. He's doing a signing in the Netherlands in August but unfortunately it's bad timing for me so I don't think I can go.
  4. x Those are all my books, though a lot of them are on my TBR. I didn't seperate it into TBR and R (read), I could do that if you're interested though, but can't put it all in one post I think or it would get too confusing. x x Ah , I think I'll do it a bit differently next year, at the very least add more posts to the beginning of the thread, before it starts with posts by other people. I love arranging lists and books too! Yep, it's the first year. I joined in January. It does feel like I've been here longer! I'm so happy to have found this forum, the people (including you!) are so wonderful . x x I fully agree, it seems to be added on just to get more viewers. x x Thank you! I've added them to the wishlist . x x I agree, I could easily see myself re-reading it in a while. It was such a great book. The viewpoint was quite unique, I've read a few other books also written from the point-of-view with someone with autism, wish there were more of them (you might like House Rules by Jodi Picoult). x x Yes I gave my presentation about two and a half weeks ago! I don't have my diploma yet, that should happen in August. I'm really enjoying my time off, though I'm still stressed and anxious sometimes. I think it'll take time to get out of my system. I'm also still tired so need more rest. But I'm really enjoying my time off. I've been reading, spending time on the computer, spending time with my boyfriend (ie. going out shopping), watching things. I'm going on holidays in a few weeks so I'm looking forward to that. x x I'm glad to hear you felt the same. Howard's End is on the Landing is on my TBR, glad to hear you liked it a lot more! I look forward to reading it sometime not too long from now.
  5. Welcome here ! Science-fiction is one of my favourite genres. What kind of authors / books do you like in the science-fiction genre? Some authors I like are Peter F. Hamilton, Arthur C. Clarke, Iain M. Banks, Joe Haldeman, Dan Simmons, and more. Some that are still on my shelf unread: Isaac Asimov, Neal Asher, Alastair Reynolds, and more. I like fantasy, science-fiction, contemporary fiction and chick-lit. Other genres I like include literature / classics, horror, detectives / mystery, paranormal (ie. vampires), thrillers (lately I'm not really into thrillers as much as I used to be). I prefer to read a mixture between books that are more intellectual / complex vs. books that are easier to read. Especially when I'm tired it's much easier to read a 'simpler' book. I also prefer a mixture between 'realistic' and 'non-realistic' books, ie. contemporary fiction, things that happen quite a bit all over the world, vs. space ships or medevil castles and swords etc. I don't read a lot of non-fiction though lately I'm reading more of it on my Kindle (most books I read are paperbacks).
  6. That's very nice, Poppyshake! (don't worry about your rambling, I can be like that too and like reading what you want to say)
  7. I don't plan on participating fully, I'll be busy with certain other things (preparations for the holidays). I don't want to start any big book before I go on holidays unless I can finish it before I leave (I don't want to be taking half a read book with me). But I might read some shorter books, I don't know yet. I should be able to participate more fully in September, however there is a book fair then which I really want to go to XD, but I don't know yet which day I'll go. I think it's great you two are reading the same book, that sounds very nice .
  8. I normally read one or a few books in between, but timewise I don't want to wait too long before starting the next one, or it's hard to remember what happened. Not just that, but I don't like to be reading more than several series at any one time.
  9. About 100 pages are left in George R. R. Martin - A Song of Ice and Fire 2: A Clash of Kings. I'm really enjoying it for the most part.
  10. I have The Graveyard and Good Omens on my TBR, several other books by him are on my wishlist (Stardust, American Gods, The Ocean at the End of the Lane..) I'm glad to hear good things about his books !
  11. Sounds good ! I'm glad to hear you liked it.
  12. I'm not a horsey person either, tests proved I'm very allergic to them so I've actually never been near them very much. I think I'd be too afraid to ride though. My mum likes horses and rode them when she was younger. She stopped after the father of her best friend had a riding accident. I hope the book is fun! I also enjoyed The Devil Wears Prada, sorry to hear you didn't enjoy her other books though. I hope the second book in the series will be good! I've read I Heart Vegas and liked it enough to buy the first in the series when I saw it for cheap. I do agree that they are a bit young, when I read it at the time I liked it but it wasn't brilliant. I plan to wait with reading the All Souls Trilogy until all three (I presume it will be three books?) will be out and on my shelves. That's what I usually do with series, because otherwise I forget a bit what it's about. I don't want to be reading too many series at once. I'm glad you liked the first book though, I hope you like the second book if you read it. I might start the series sooner than when the third book is out, will have to see how I feel . Thanks, I hope to enjoy the Cassandra Clare books! I've heard many good things about them. Book five doesn't seem to be out in paperback in the same size as the other ones, so I'm waiting a bit until it's out. I found out there's a sixth book on the way, or that's what GoodReads says, so will keep an eye out for that too. Cassandra Clare has also written another series, I'm also thinking of buying those books sometime. I've downloaded a Kindle free ebook: Nancy Radke - The Sisters of Spirit #1-4, Boxed Set with 2 bonus short stories (Sisters of Spirit 1-4) I'm not really sure what it's about but wanted to have a few books to pick from for the holidays etc. I'll probably not read this but XD. I also downloaded this free Kindle book a few days ago: Edith Warton - Summer In case I want to read it for the Reading Circle in August.
  13. My favourite food would be 'gourmet', you use a hot plate to heat the food, underneath it you can put things in a little pan, such as eggs, union, spekjes (bacon bits) and mushrooms. This is my favourite food. We eat it with stickbread (with herb butter and other things for on top of it). We use several different types of meat, such as steak, pork, burgers, spekjes, chicken, sausages. Eggs come from our own chicken. We eat lettuce and various kinds of vegetables with it, such as tomato, cucumber, mushrooms, carrots, and more. We only have this dinner on special occasions. If that's not allowed, then it'd be steak in peppersauce, stickbread with herb butter and lettuce with other cold vegetables (see above). I do like pizza a lot, it's very nice. What's your favourite kind of pizza?
  14. A few days ago I downloaded a Kindle free ebook: Amanda Hocking - The Hollows 1: Hollowland I bought some books: Anna Sewell - Black Beauty Terry Pratchet & Stephen Baxter - The Long Earth 1: The Long Earth Santa Montefiore - The Summer House Veronica Henry - A Night on the Orient Express Abby Clements - Vivien's Heavenly Ice Cream Shop Jill Mansell - Don't Want to Miss a Thing Lauren Weisberger - The Devil Wears Prada 2: Revenge Wears Prada - The Devil Returns Julia Williams - Midsummer Magic Lindsey Kelk - I Heart 1: I Heart New York John Green - Paper Towns Michael Grant - Gone 1: Gone Deborah Harkness - All Souls Trilogy 2: Shadow of Night Cassandra Clare - The Mortal Instruments 1: City of Bones Cassandra Clare - The Mortal Instruments 3: City of Glass
  15. John B. Arden - Improving Your Memory for Dummies Genre: Information Format: Kindle Pages: 336 Synopsis (GoodReads): Practical tips and techniques make remembering a snap Jog your memory with exercises to help you at home, at work, anywhere! Whether you are cramming for an exam, have trouble remembering names, or you just want to give your overall memory power a boost, this plain-English guide offers clever tricks to help you remember what you want to remember. You'll discover how your memory works and how to enhance it in all types of situations. My thoughts: After the previous Kindle read, Training Your Brain for Dummies, that I considered average, I was very pleased to find out this book was a lot better! It contains many useful tips for improving your memory, as well as explanations of how things work in your brain. I really liked it. Admittedly, my memory is usually pretty good (when I'm not too stressed at least), so maybe this book isn't really necessary XD, but it was interesting to read none-the-less. The language was easy to follow, the writing was very good. I quite enjoyed reading this book. Rating: ***** (9/10) 200 more pages to go in A Clash of Kings! I'm really enjoying it.
  16. That sounds excellent ! They're on my shelf too, will get around to them someday.
  17. Nice reviews ! I'm glad you liked The Andromeda Strain. I have a Dutch copy, might look into buying it in English sometime.
  18. Nice review ! The book's on my wishlist I believe . I own Kafka on the Shore but haven't read it yet.
  19. In terms of comedic writing, it has to be Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett for me. In terms of comics, I haven't read much of them (I've read mainly kids' ones, and Donald Duck). They aren't as available here as in for example an American comic shop. Would love to try certain comics some day, though I prefer books (novels).
  20. In the Reading Circle topics there will be spoilers, in any other topics people have to put [ spoiler ] tags around their spoilers, so the spoiler can only be seen when clicked on.
