It's a shame you didn't like The Regulators. I must say, I'm still kind of curious to read it though. It sounds interesting enough. Is it a massive book? I really love the cover of your edition. When Bachman's books first came out, were people aware that Bachman = King? Or did it only become known after a while? I guess it couldn't have been a secret for a long, if it ever was a secret, given that the characters in The Regulators were named for the characters in Desperation.

I forgot that you were giving away Lolita. I suppose I probably asked this last time I saw it (knowing me!) but have you read it before?

LOL @ 'ass of u and me' - I'd forgotten about that phrase.

It's one of my favourites. I use it whenever I can. :giggle:

I don't actually mind that Hugh Grant's in it. I used to dislike him loads, but I liked him in the Bridget Jones Diaries, eventhough he played the character of the biggest arse ever. And I think Toni Collette's in the movie, she's a superb actress, I love her :)

Aw, I was hoping you didn't know about Collette so I could make you happy with the news. :) She does really well in About a Boy, of course. Have you watched it yet?

Oh dear. Both you and Janet disliked High Fidelity? I bought this on DVD a little while ago. I haven't read the book though.

My copy is massive, but it's a hardback. It has a bit less than 500 pages (the page numbering doesn't go all the way to the end and I was too lazy to count myself) so in that respect, it's not massive.

The Regulators was published posthumously, so it's one of Bachman's latest novels, he'd published, for example, Rage and The Long Walk way before that, so I think there was a good chance his true identity wasn't discovered until some time later. I started reading King in the 90s so when I read my first Bachman the truth was already out and I knew.

Your mind is a sewer and a sieve... :giggle: Yes, I read the book and really liked it, but when I bought my Finnish copy I didn't know that Nabokov had originally written the novel in English. So I wanted to give away my copy so I can buy the English original someday and get acquainted with Nabokov's delicious English

Not yet, it was on last night and I've just woken up an hour ago, had my breakfast and come on here :giggle:

Who knows, you might like the movie, don't let our thoughts on it ruin your experience! :)

Heeeey! I resemble that remark. :giggle2: (Little play on words there.) I thought it might have been either a Finnish edition or a tatty English edition. Honest!

I was about to congratulate you on your priorities until I realised you had breakfast first!? :P

I have low expectations now, so surely it can't be worse than my low expectations! Haha.

Haha I did have to back and read that sentence a few times :D

In my defense, I first made my breakfast and then sat down to browse the forum WHILE eating my breakfast

Well I'm sure of that, yes :)

I thought I'd better mention it in case you hadn't heard it before. But I knew you'd appreciate the wit.

I thought I had perhaps learned the phrase from John Lennon (it's definitely something he'd say), but I was just Googling it to learn its origins, and a lot of people ascribe it to Groucho Marx (woohoo!) and The Three Stooges. :D It's used as a sort of rebuttal when people insult you. It gives you a chance to turn the tables on them by effectively agreeing with what they're saying (well, I couldn't very well deny that my mind is a sewer and a sieve, or I'd be lying, wouldn't I? :giggle2:)

In that case, I approve. After all, you need to keep your strength up to keep up with the forum. :)

Well I can always google if I don't know something ;) I thought you either wanted to say 'resent' or 'remember' (because I've said that same thing once before). I'll have to remember that! Although why would I want to agree with a person who's being critical of me, I have no idea :D

Definitely! I couldn't keep up with you guys on an empty stomach :D

Kylie!!!! You will not believe this :D I was just looking through all the movies they are playing tonight, in case there was something I wanted to watch. There was one called 'Neljä naurettavaa naapurusta' in Finnish, and that didn't say anything to me. So I click for further details, and guess which movie it is!?!

Duck Soup!!! :D:exc::friends3: Bring on GG moment! :cows:

Well, let's test it out!...

Frankie, you have such a gutter mind!

I know! I wasn't sure if you'd watched the movie already, so when I posted my previous post, I went to the Have You Seen..? thread because I knew you'd mentioned Duck Soup in that, but couldn't remember if you'd seen it already or not, and then I found out that you did! :D What luck and coincidence :friends3:

Don't get me wrong - I don't dislike Hugh Grant (and Daniel Cleaver is possibly my favourite role of his) but he's one of those actors who seems to play himself. Keira Knightly is another!

Duck Soup is all kinds of brilliant :D

And one of the Marx brothers had one of my favourite Buffy episodes named after him, too :D

I confess, I'd never heard it before but from the context and from the 'sound' of it I figured out what it must be and googled and voila :D

Ah, I see. I mean, I see what you mean, but I'm not sure what Hugh Grant is like. I don't think I've seen him in that many movies. Keira Knightley... hehehe don't get me started :giggle2:

Oh now, you know that was an accurate statement! :P:giggle:

Hey, I resent that!!

:D

I didn't know Duck Soup was so popular. Or maybe you've watched it because you are a closet Gilmore Girls fan! :D Fes up!

What's that episode, then? Oh I'm seriously getting in the mood for re-watching Buffy

Um, no, I just watched it cos I like old movies. Still can't beat Abbott & Costello, imo :D

Oh gosh, if you haven't already then you need to watch the excellent Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually and Notting Hill - all three are utter class (in my opinion!). :)

Off to imdb after posting!

Oh crap, I guess I have seen him in a fair few movies, then :D I've seen all of those! I love Four Weddings and a Funeral, I watch it everytime it's on, and I love Love Actually! I just never remember he's in it. Notting Hill I was not so pleased with, although I can't remember why :)

I'd agree that Notting Hill is the poorest - but who could fail to love William's friends in it - especially Spike! :D

Did you know that the writer, Richard Curtis, usually puts a 'loser' character in his films called either Bernard or Bernie? I think (I ought to Google to check but I'm just off to bed) that it's because his wife had an ex-boyfriend of that name). Bernard in Notting Hill is the dippy investment banker - in Four Weddings he's the groom in Wedding 2 - in Love Actually Bernie is Karen (Emma Thompson) and Harry (Alan Rickman)'s son (a few of his scenes were cut from the film). I'm sure there are others!

Actually, eventhough I don't remember much about the movie, I do remember a friend of his, and I thought he was really annoying :D I'll have to google later if I'm thinking of the right person, I've just woken up and gots to go soon!

No, I didn't know that :D Haha! Hilarious, and yet kinda rude  Always a good combination. I think I'll also google him and the other characters!

That's okay - I think it's funny and I like Bernard spotting in his films! I remembered after I'd logged off last night that 'cousin Bernard' was the man in Bridget Jones 1 who turned up at the Vicars and Tarts party (where Uncle Geoffrey didn't tell Bridget or her father that the theme had been cancelled) dressed as an archbishop!

You guys are weird! Notting Hill is definitely better than Love Actually ... but I will say that Four Weddings and a Funeral is still the best of the three. My heart breaks at the funeral every single time. I'm terrible - just the sight of someone crying sets me off, and then when it tugs the emotional heartstrings as well, I'm just in bits!

And just to add to the Bernard collection, in Blackadder II, Nursie's real name is Bernard as well

I wonder if Irvine Welsh has written about Bernard spotting ...

Oh yes I remember cousin Bernard from Bridget Jones (was going to write BJ but thought better of it). I can't believe there are so many :D I wonder how annoyed the real Bernard is...

 I'm sorry if we are weird! Notting Hill was just on TV maybe a month or two ago, I'm regretting that I didn't record it so I could re-watch it and see if it's any better than I think. Oh the funeral's just horrid :( My heart goes out to John Hannah. Or rather the character he plays... but mostly John Hannah :giggle:

I've never seen Blackadder :lurker: However, when I was reading The Fry Chronicles I solemnly swore I would watch it the next time the opportunity presented itself.

I acquired a new book today, but it was free of charge, so I'm breaking no promises. I got it from the free book trolley at the library. It is a Finnish travel guide to Australia  It was published in 2000, so some of the details are dated, but I won't mind!

Hi. My name is Marcia and I've never seen Notting Hill, Love Actually or Black Adder. :hide:

Oh, and weird is GOOD!

You'll have to enlighten me - I have no idea why Irvine Welsh would write about Bernard!

I do like Notting Hill - I have it on DVD and particularly like William's friends! Poorest was a bad choice of words. I just think Four Weddings is better.

ETA: Train Spotting! D'oh!
