Nollaig Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 It's only mentioned off-handedly. Thats why I didn't even spoiler it. Some random person: 'You know, they're not actually werewolves. They're shape-shifters who took on wolf form.' Edward: 'We know.' Bella: 'You know?? What??' Edward: 'What? You never asked!' That's during like the climax of the novel. And it's totally off-handed. I think Meyer thought she was making the story seem deeper by throwing in something she wasn't going to explain.
Nicola Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I must say, that Jasper The Vampire Boy girl actually isn't half bad. She really was doing it as a joke, she doesn't actually think she is or could be Alice That's good to know!! I thought she was being serious....phew! As for the werewolves, I'm not that keen either. Although I do think Jacob is pretty funny in the last book.....oh and Seth too.
BookBee8 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 That irritated me as well Roxi. It was too convenient and was just a way for Meyer to avoid the huge fight. . I still refer to them as werewolves though.
Nicola Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I was really looking forward to the huge fight too but it never developed! Maybe she just didn't have the imagination to end it that way and I suppose that for me was the point when I thought that she definitely wasn't in the same league as JK Rowling etc.
BookBee8 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 She claimed that had there been a huge fight then too many characters would have died. Which I guess is true. But I think she could've gone about the ending a little differently, definitely.
Nicola Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I suppose that's true but it would have given it a tad bit of realism instead of the Volturi leaving in peace "well we'll just be running along then leaving you all happily ever after. Actually Caius, if we hurry up we could probably make that 9:50 flight".
Peacefield Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Well I've yet to read the last book but I sure wanted to punch Jacob too in Eclipse, lol. It sounds like he might be a little more tolerable in the last one? Certain things that SM does/doesn't write about definitely shows the depth of her writing talent, imo.
Kimmy619 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I agree Nicola - I thought the end of Breaking Dawn was a bit of a cop out. Why spend most of the book leading up to a huge fight and then just leave it as "and they all lived happily ever after" There was so much more that could have been done with the last book.
Scarlette Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I agree Nicola - I thought the end of Breaking Dawn was a bit of a cop out. Why spend most of the book leading up to a huge fight and then just leave it as "and they all lived happily ever after" There was so much more that could have been done with the last book. Agreed. But the book already felt overstuffed with information to me, so perhaps even if there was a huge fight , it would have felt like too much. I think some of the events in the final novel could have been left out entirely, though, and that there were other things that I would have liked to read about instead, also.
Nicola Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 So it looks like we're all agreed then....we all would've changed the majority of the last book!! Let's hope Russett Moon is a bit better eh.......only kidding!!
Peacefield Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Great... now I'm really looking forward to reading it! lol Russett Moon?? You scared me for a second there, Nicola! Besides, I thought it was going to be called 'Full Moon' I saw this graphic at a Twlight message board that I thought was funny: "I'd like to La Push Jacob Black off a cliff!"
Nicola Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Ah don't let us put you off....it's still a good book. Definitely worth persevering with! Where are you up to at the mo? I love that quote.....literally laughed out loud and startled my BF!
Peacefield Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I know, hilarious, right?!! Love it. I just finished Eclipse, and it's taking all my strength stopping myself from going out and paying full price for Breaking Dawn. I completely lucked out this last time and found Eclipse at the used book store, but I probably won't be so lucky with the last one. My old co-worker has a copy she said I could borrow though, so hopefully I can last until this weekend when I meet up with her .
Peacefield Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Hmmm...tough question! I have favorite parts of each of the three I've read, but if you were to take a tally of the most-liked parts from one book it'd probably be Twilight. Each one is different though, so it's truly hard to decide. How about you, BookBee, and everyone?
BookBee8 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Mine's Eclipse. I just love that book. For me, it had a little bit of everything in it. My least favourite was New Moon; I loved the beginning as I liked seeing the darker side of one of the Cullens for once but then found it to be so slow. Plus, I'm not a huge fan of Jacob. Although, he is great in Breaking Dawn!
Nightwish Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 The second time reading them I liked Jacob a lot more than Edward... I feel so disloyal now
lexiepiper Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Eclipse/Twilight are my favourites, I enjoy both equally, but I really like the other two as well, just a little less! I love the relationship between Rosalie and Jacob in the last book, so funny
bethany725 Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I loved their relationship, too.. She treats him like a big dog all the time. I thought it was funny to have her finally meet a match that could dish it back.
lexiepiper Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Yeah exactly the fido dog bowl thing was hilarious, as were all the blonde jokes And beware, the wrath of twilight fans, that is just beyond insane
lexiepiper Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I feel like saying to them '...you do realise it's a fictional book...right!?' Apparantly there's a new 'religion' called Cullenism: These Cullenists believe "just like any other religion," that there is some spirituality to be had in the Twilight series, forming rules and principles upon which to base their tenets. Their creed, say the Cullenists, includes a base set of beliefs that "Edward and the rest of the Twilight characters are real," that "the Twilight series should be worshipped," and that "if you are good in life, you will be blessed with eternity with the Cullens." Other than that, say the Cullenists, there "is not a limit to what you can believe in when it comes to the Cullenism religion . . . we will accept any other Cullenism beliefs you may have." Cullenists are also expected to read some of the books on a daily basis, "like the Bible" and make a pilgrimage to Forks. Worship Song of Cullenism: "Carlisle is awesome, Esme is cool, Alice and Jasper totally rule, our love to Emmett and Rosalie and Edward too for eternity." I kid you not, that actually exists, anyone here going to be joining?
Nollaig Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 People like that should be shot. In the kneecaps. Repeatedly.
bethany725 Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Oh, yey.. sign me up.. where is the closest temple?
lexiepiper Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I know, I mean most of us here love them a lot, but jeez, makes you worry about the sanity of the world lol
