I had a huge crush on Mel Gibson after watching the Lethal Weapon series. In my defense, I was only a teenager, so can hopefully be forgiven. :giggle:

Me too!!

Talking of Mel Gibson I liked the Mad Max movies (well 1 and 2 anyway) and Apocalypto was brilliant. Don't give two hoots for the rest.

I just got back from the cinema I watched The Raid.

Holy Moly. It was brilliant but not a chick flick, let's put it that way.

I am really annoyed about another film my ex- wife and I wanted to watch. All In Good Time

is an Indo-Brit film but I found out it is only on limited release and is not coming to our town at all. It played at Showcase in Coventry but only for one week and we missed it.

Yet the cinema chains will re-release 20 year old Disney cartoons. ARGhh!

I watched Desk Set at the weekend - Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. And it is very very funny and enjoyable :)

Re the posts above on Mel Gibson. I used to watch his films. Haven't in quite a while though. I saw the first three Lethal Weapon films, Ransom, Braveheart, The Man Without A Face, and one or two more. Can't remember the names at present. I stopped though when I realized how self-destructive he was. All his films have him hurting himself, he seemed to search out the scripts that called for something like that, and he reveled in it, definitely. It became a chore to see this, and who needs that. :(

Last night was a double feature around here. First we watched Last Year at Marienbad, we'd had it on the shelf for a couple of months, and finally saw it. Beautifully stylized and shot film. Fascinating.

Also watched, at last, Last Tango in Paris. I was kind of disappointed in the film, it wasn't as I thought it would be, although Brando was fantastic.

Oh, we are also continuing the Wallander series, almost through the second season. Good stuff!!

Just watched No Strings Attached. I know it was awful, and I should hate it, but surprisingly I actually enjoyed it. I have absolutely no defence aside from the fact I can comfortably watch Natalie Portman for two hours.

I watched Memoirs of a Survivor. I was a bit worried it would spoil Doris Lessing's book for me, but there wasn't a whole that happened anyway. Then I read some reviews about the book and it seems like the book is the same.

I saw the New Zealand steampunkesque vampire movie 'Perfect Creature'. Not entirely sure what to make of it, but I thought the central premise was intriguing, and the acting pretty good. The film's design was gritty, grainy and grubby giving real texture to the locations. I think I would watch a sequel of it if one were ever made.

Journey to the Center of the Earth

Is that the James Mason original Sofia or the awful Brendan Frazer version?

The even worse remake x2 with Rick Schroeder :/

Avengers Assemble, better than a lot of superhero films I've seen recently.

I had a 3 hour Indian film on last night while I was packing, Shakti (the power). It was not as good as I remembered so that's another one to go to the second hand shop tomorrow.

Gosh I hadn't even heard of this one!

But I'm intrigued - what made you buy this?

It has Karisma Kapoor and Nana Patekar, Shah Rukh Kahn and a dance routine with Aish in it.

I watch lots of Hindi films Bree my ex-wife is Indian (but British born) . We were together 20 years we have 6 kids. We split up last year.

Oh I'm sorry Vodkafan for prying.

Which are your favourite Hindi films?

I watched Here Comes Mr Jordan yesterday. Lovely film about a man who is sent to heaven before his time, and has to go back to earth in another man's body. (It has been remade twice, as Heaven Can Wait, with Warren Beatty, and Down To Earth, with Chris Rock.) Lovely film with Robert Montgomery, Claude Rains, and Edward Everett Horton.

No worries Bree, most people know about it on here anyway.

My favourite Hindi moves are

Main Hoon Na (mainly for the songs, my kids love this one too, they can sing all the songs in Hindi just from repetition!)

Devdas

Lagaan

Veer Zaara

Ashoka

Don

Mandi (an old one , Naserudin Shah's first film)

A Wednesday

Kabi Kushi Kabi Gum

I like many songs from various other films too, although I have not seen the films themselves.

Also Britain has its own small sub genre of "Indo Brit" films such as Bend it Like Beckham, East is East, Anita and Me and Bhaji On The Beach.

I've just watched Darling, a Swedish movie. The beginning was a bit odd but then I got sucked into the story. I wonder what inspired the name for the movie, I can't think of anything.

A great movie anyways. But then again, Swedish movies often are.
