I study linguistics and am absolutely fascinated by language and David Crystal has made linguistics so accessible and interesting for people who just want to know some stuff about linguistics. A Little Book of Language and Words Words Words are brilliant, well-written but not overly academic and full of jargon. His Encyclopedia of the English Language is my bible. Michael Rosen recently wrote a Guardian piece in praise of Crystal, and David Crystal wrote a rather interesting response on his blog. Please don't tell me I'm the only crazed David Crystal super-fan out there. If I am, you should all take a look, because he's quite the lad.
