Chrissy Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 You've written your masterpiece, and it's to be published. You are asked what you want to have on your dedication page. What do you write? Will it be a snippet of poetry? A dedication in initials? Something cryptic? Will you be obligated to include Aunt Hilda? Does cousin Norbert deserve a mention? Come tell us here....... be it meaningful, sad, funny or downright weird, come tell us. I'd like to dedicate this thread to the ones that matter. You know who you are. Quote
Lucybird Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I would dedicate it to my Mum, who made me love reading Quote
Janet Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I'd do and say the same as Lucybird! I'd like to think of something witty too. Or perhaps a quote from a poem, but I've never really thought about it so I don't know what! Quote
Weave Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 What a great thread, well done Chrissy I would dedicate it to my Ma and Da ~ 'For my Ma and Da, you wore it well' Quote
Chrissy Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 My first bestseller ( ) would be dedicated to, To P & M, with a special mention to S. Together they shaped the adult. To M & D and A & R, who shaped the child. Thereafter I'd go with witty, cryptic and downright odd, with the odd quote or verse thrown in! Quote
Raven Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) I'd like to dedicate this thread to the ones that matter. You know who you are. Aww, thanks! My first novel's dedication is going to read as follows: Dedicated to Me (Look, I did all the work and it was jolly hard. If you want a book dedicated to you perhaps you should get off your arse and write one. I mean do you know how many rejections letters I had to read; how many bribes I had to pay - and then I had to go to a bloody vanity publisher anyway which means only four people are ever going to read this. When they tell you to set goals for yourself at school, just ignore them. What a waste of time and effort . . .). Edited August 30, 2010 by Raven Quote
Chrissy Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 Y'know, I was looking forward to reading yours Raven! I just knew it'd be a good un! Quote
Pixie Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) For Erik My parents gave me food and shelter, But you taught me how to sustain myself. My parents gave me many gifts, But you taught me how to never give up. My parents gave me life, But you taught me how to breathe it in. LOL at Raven's That was priceless. Kylie Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I'd like to dedicate this thread to the ones that matter. You know who you are. Woe, I'm left out again. ( ) Terrific stuff Raven! I'd buy your book for the dedication alone. Aw, that's really sweet Pixie! I have no idea what I'd write for mine. I'd like something witty, philosophical and sentimental all in one. Maybe I'll employ Raven to write one for me. Quote
Kell Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 For my husband, Dale, who doesn't read except to our son, but encouraged me to keep going. And for my son, Xander, who loves books as much as I do - I hope one day you'll read this and be proud. Quote
BookJumper Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 *tears hair out* good question. I do actually need to think on mine, so you guys will be the first to know should I make any progress in that direction all I know so far is that at some point or other there will be included the line - because I have already promised that it will be so - 'For crisp-packet readers everywhere.' vinay87 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 (edited) My book's had the dedications fixed for a looong time. For my parents, who gave me life. For my sister, dearest in strife. For a devil, who read this first. For a doctor, through all my worst. For a robot, the heretic must burn. For a friend, so she with me may learnFor a grandfather, forever the lead. For an old man, who made me read. For a teacher, who made me write. And for God, who reads day and night. Funny thing, I actually love writing dedications. Edited September 3, 2010 by vinay87 Quote
