Time for a new thread!

It's great, isn't it, despite the subject-matter. I won't say what I want to say about it as I don't want to spoil it for you. :smile2:

I'm just over half-way through Join Me by Danny Wallace - I'm loving it! :(

I just finished it. Omg.

Do not read this if you haven't read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas...

What did you think of the ending? Did you see it coming?

ETA: There is a discussion thread you can answer that in HERE :irked:

I just bought The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood, which I have been meaning to buy for ages but like many of us here, I got side tracked by other books :smile2:

I enjoyed that, Paula. :smile2: It was our first ever Bookworms read back in 2006!

There is a film coming out this year (just called Charlie St Cloud)... with Zac Efron in the title role! It will be interesting to see how he plays Charlie.

I've been reading Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh. I definitely want to rewatch the movie at some point. Wondering if Welsh's other books are any good.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I bought Jean Webster's Just Patty and Emily Chase's Roommates from the library sale, only 20 cnt each :smile2:

Also, borrowed L. M. Montgomery's Mistress Pat and Pat of Silver Bush, these have only recently been translated into Finnish and I've never ever even heard of these novels before, I'm really excited to find new books by Montgomery! :irked:

I have finished Pelagia and the Black Monk by Boris kunin I think i prefer this series to the Erast Fandorin series, I has more humour in it. I m now going to start China Mieville's Kraken and I am so excited its been calling me on the side table since the weekend.

I am looking forward to reading it Janet, I saw that Zac Efron was playing Charlie St Cloud on IMDB, which reminded me about the book :irked: I have Ben Sherwood's other book, 'The Man Who Ate the 747', which I have still to read

Hm, The Acid House seems to be a collection of short stories. I might have to check out which other books the library has in their collection. I do hope they're not all written in Scottish :smile2: Otherwise it'll take me ages to read them!

Edit: What what what?? Porno is a sequal to Trainspotting?? How did I not know this!

Frankie, it took me ages to read 'Trainspotting' because of the Edinburgh slang , I'm from Glasgow, different slang altogether :irked: , oh I forgot to say 'Porno' is the sequel to 'Trainspotting'

I've just started Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, very much looking forward to this :smile2:

Enjoy Mexicola  I really liked it :irked:

I had no idea there was such huge variation between different Scottish dialects! I sometimes think of you Paula, when I'm reading the book, because I know you're from Scotland :( I definitely need to read Porno and Filth seems interesting too.

The short story The Rosewell Incident by Irvine Welsh is one of the funniest things I have ever read - don't want to give anything away, but

picture how aliens would speak if they abducted folk speaking very, very broad Scots dialect! :smile2:

I read it in a collection called Children of Albion Rovers, I don't know if it's available anywhere else or not.

I'm 64 pages into A Change in Altitude by Anita Shreve.

I've not read a bad one. The follow-up to Trainspotting is called Porno and if it's possible, it's better. It's the same characters ten years later. Brilliant.

Filth and Crime are also fantastic.

The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs was a good read, as were the short stories in If you Liked School You'll Love Work.

Hope you put him on your TRB list soon Frankie. You wont regret it.:irked:

Thanks Ooshie and Coffin Nail, I'll be definitely looking into Welsh's other novels from now on :smile2: I have no idea why, but for some reason I've always thought his other books are similar to Stewart Home's (whose novels I loath).

I have finished The Ice-Cream Girls by Dorothy Koomson - full marks from me. An excellent book :smile2: Next up is Stardust by Neil Gaimon. I enjoyed the film so looking forward to getting into the book

Loved Rebecca, Mexicola, and I hope you like it too! :smile2:

I read a good chunk of The House at Midnight last night before falling asleep.

I've just been informed I've won an ARC of Lisa Mantchev's Theatre Illuminata Act II: Perchance to Dream in a blogger's competition :smile2: I'm so made up, I've been trying to preorder this for ages and now I don't even have to pay for a copy that's more collectable than a first edition. W00t w00t!
