What was the first record/cd/download that you bought using your own money?

Mine was Message in a Bottle by The Police.

Good call Johnny, I guess we should include whole albums as well.

I bought two albums with Boots record tokens (remember them???)

Hedgehog Sandwich --Not the Nine O'clock News & Hunky Dory--David Bowie.....both on tape.

I still have them.

First single-Paul Hardcastle 19(I hear he's still big in japan).

First LP The soundtrack to Once upon a time in the west by Ennio Morricone. Yup I was a weird kid at school!

'I Don't Like Mondays' by The Boomtown Rats.

I bought 3 singles on the same trip - a bit of a mixed bag really:

Prince Charming by Adam and the Ants (I still love them!)

That Ol' Devil Called Love by Alison Moyet

Rat Rapping by Roland Rat

I know all the words to all three of those songs to this day.

I really wasn't into music when I was younger, apart from a few girl bands who I had albums for such as Spice Girls and B*witched (who I still love ). The first single I can remember buying was Jenny from the Block by J-Lo in 2002. :D

10,000 liras pocket money per week x 1 month = the first in a long series of Beatles albums. It was Rubber Soul, I believe.

I must say it is very disconcerting to read posts on this thread about people's first purchases being albums that were out when I was well into my college years.

Go on, JCW really taunt me why don't you!

I think it may have been 'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush .... or 'Peaches' by The Stranglers ... I'm not sure which came first now .. it was a long, long time ago.

The first single bought for me was The Smurf Song by Father Abraham! My muscial tastes matured later and the first single I bought was You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon.
