Ophelia Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Anyone else looking forward to watching this adaptation over the Bank Holiday? I am, but I just hope that they haven't messed around with the story too much Quote
amethyst Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I can't wait! I've even turned down going out tonight to watch it! (I also have no money but still) I'm actually reading it at the moment and trying to get as much read before it starts tonight. Quote
Babe*With*Brains Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Costume drama's really aren't my thing. My family thought I would love to watch this (as my mother excitedly let me know it was on tonight) but in all honesty they just bore me. Quote
amethyst Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Normally I'm exactly the same, but for some reason I seem to be drawn to Wuthering Heights, and I have to say, I'm really enjoying the book even though it's nothing like what I was expecting. Quote
SueB Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 This just reminded me its on...Im gonna try and stay awake long enough to watch it though. Quote
Weave Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 its not on here in Scotland (I could be wrong but I have checked everywhere on the tv guide and nothing), I don't know why, hopefully it will eventually be shown. Quote
poppyshake Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I'm looking forward to it .. though I'm not rapt that it's on ITV .. I remember when they screened 'My Boy Jack' .. and because of the adverts I could hardly make out if Jack had gone to war or to buy a carpet. Quote
pipread Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I'm looking forward to it .. though I'm not rapt that it's on ITV .. I remember when they screened 'My Boy Jack' .. and because of the adverts I could hardly make out if Jack had gone to war or to buy a carpet. That made me laugh! I`m sort of watching but I wish I`d sky plussed it so I could wizz through the adverts. Quote
amethyst Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 It seems a bit jumpy at the moment, whether you've read the book or not. That's my opinion anyway. Quote
Fi. Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I thought it seemed really disjointed and switched off about an hour in - think I'll stick to the Laurence Olivier version Quote
amethyst Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I haven't seen that, is that the black and white one? My mum said I should watch it. I was a little disappointed in it, even though Tom Hardy makes a rather yummy Heathcliff, they seem to have missed out massive chunks of the story, and they're not showing it in the correct order. I don't understand why they can't just stick to the actual story when they do these things! Maybe the fact that I've literally just finished reading it for the first time is making me a bit more picky about the visual version. Quote
Janet Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) As someone who hasn't read the book (like amethyst, I was going to try to read it first, but I couldn't find my copy ) I had no idea of the story (bar what Kate Bush had told me ) and consequently I really enjoyed the first part! Is part 2 tomorrow, or next Sunday? ETA: Mel Giedroyc's brother Directed it, apparently - I didn't know she had a brother! Edited August 30, 2009 by Janet Quote
amethyst Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 The next part is on tomorrow night at the same time. Quote

Tom Hardy is okay but I can't get past Andrew Lincoln without thinking of This Life, I've never particularly liked him as an actor. I get that they're never going to faithfully follow the book but I really don't like how they've adapted it this time round. Quote
amethyst Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 No I don't like Andrew Lincoln in it either. I feel they should have used someone a bit more timid and meek? Quote
Fi. Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 No I don't like Andrew Lincoln in it either. I feel they should have used someone a bit more timid and meek? Yes, exactly! He doesn't have the right nuances to play Linton, for want of a better expression Quote
Ophelia Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 I quite liked the first part but it threw me a bit when they started the story where they did. Quote
SweetiiPie85 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I'm looking forward to watching this. I'm recording both parts to watch next week while I'm on holiday. I've never read the book but have always wanted to. Quote
pickwick Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Didn't enjoy it at all and switched off before I started throwing things at the box! I would add that I love the book:) Quote
Nicola Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I've got this waiting for me on sky plus I'm sure (although not 100%) that ITV adapted Wuthering heights in the 70's or 80's and it was terrible so I've been waiting for this adaptation, hoping that it's better than the last. Quote
Fi. Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 It's better but not by much, most people I know turned it off Quote
Janet Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 The next part is on tomorrow night at the same time. Thanks. I let my daughter (12) stay up and watch part 1 (she didn't wake up until 10am today) so I guess I'll be doing the same tonight! She's going to be knackered tomorrow! Quote

She's going to be knackered tomorrow! Aww bless her! Tonight does look a bit better than last nights, but I guess that's because they haven't shown the best parts of the story yet. I really don't understand why they started it where they did either, makes no sense at all! Quote
joe Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 mmmmm not too sure what I thought about it to be honest. I am reserving judgment untill i watch the next part tonight Quote
Mysterioso Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Yep- I only gave it about half an hour because the whole thing was pretty dreadful. No coherent narrative, woefully miscast and generally disappointing. Having seen a few other adaptations of this book no-one seems to get it quite right. It's a shame..... Quote
