Gilmore Girls

Adam Brody played Dave Rygalski. He dated Lane for a little while and pretended to be in a Christian band so he could stay close to Lane. I think in the show he moved out of Stars Hollow to go to uni, and so had to leave the band.

Amy Sherman-Palladino, Kelly Bishop and Lauren Graham have made some very nice statements about Edward Herrmann:

Amy Sherman-Palladino:
When we were casting the part of Richard on Gilmore Girls, we all sat around saying, ‘If we could only get Ed Herrmann.’ So we sent the script to his agent who said Ed will come in and meet, but he won’t read. We said fine — great. Set it up. The agent said, ‘But I need you to understand — he will not read.’ We said we get it — no reading. The agent said, ‘He’s Ed Herrmann. He’s worked with Woody Allen! He was in Reds! He will not, under any circumstances, read!’ We were like ‘Hey, if he’ll even sit down and talk to us, we’d be honored.’ So Ed came in. He sat down and said, ‘I like it. It’s funny. Should I read?’ We sat there in stunned silence as Ed opened the script and proceeded to read. And just like that, Richard Gilmore was sitting in front of us. And that’s when I knew this show was charmed… To our patriarch, I thank you. I miss you. And I could never repay you.

Kelly Bishop:
We, the Gilmore Girls family, are so terribly sad and somewhat stunned. We only learned about his illness a week or so ago. I got a call from [Edward’s wife] Star Monday night asking if I wanted to come to the hospital to say good-bye. I went yesterday and was able to give Ed love from Lauren [Graham], Alexis [bledel] and Amy [sherman-Palladino]… I have so many fond memories of our time together on Gilmore Girls and since, mainly via email. I think everyone who knew or worked with Ed found him to be absolutely delightful… Everything looks a little dim, as if the lights went down.

Lauren Graham:
Ed Herrmann’s combination of pure charisma plus his distinctive voice lit up any room he entered. He had a gentlemanly manner, a wicked sense of humor, and a sharp wit. He was well-read, interesting, and just plain fun to be around. He had deep respect and love for the craft of acting and led by example. You wanted to be better prepared, or just plain better, because he always was. He brought such humor and humanity to all his work, but I know the character of Richard Gilmore had a special place in his heart. He loved our show and was touched by the enthusiasm of its fans.

^^^^Ah I see. I really liked Dave and he was so good with Lane. I always wondered why he went to college, kept in touch a little, and then just disappeared. Boo.

Those quotes about his death and the impact he had are so touching. Lived a great life and was a great man. R.I.P.

^ Yeah, it was so odd when Dave just disappeared one season and nobody really even talked about him until that marriage jug episode. I can't remember what it was, but Kylie told me that they'd written some line about Dave on the show, and it was actually about Adam leaving for the O.C. TV series. I never caught it, but Kylie did and it was funny how they put it in the show.

Kylie, do you remember what it was?

Hmm, was I really clever enough to catch that reference? I couldn't quite remember it, so I just looked it up...When they talk about Dave leaving, they mention that he has 'moved to California' (which is where the show The OC is set). :)

Yes you really were! :D

Oh, it was just a reference to California? I thought it was something juicier than that. :( Oh well :D

My, you're hard to please! :P

If I told you about this particular reference before, then I must have read it somewhere. I really can't believe I would have been paying such close attention that I would have made the connection between The OC and California all by myself! But then again, I've seen every episode of GG about a dozen times (maybe more!) so surely I would have noticed it eventually. ;)

I'm a tough crowd! :drama::D You know why that is? Because GG is so great and witty, we've learned to expect really witty stuff

You did tell me about it before. It's the only way I knew about it. You probably told it in a very witty way, and so I thought it was something wittier than it actually was :D:cool:

I just love it, always a good combination of drama and comedy!

Yes indeed! I could rave on and on about the show. It's just perfect. I can't imagine ever finding another show that I love as much. It's just so clever. And I love that even though I've watched all of the episodes so many times, I still often notice things or pick up references that I never noticed before. It's like a gift that keeps on giving. :)

The thing that amazes me is how Rory has time to watch movies with her mom, go to the diner, go to a prestigious high school (and later college), have friends, AND read all the books she does.

Oh to live in a fictional world...

I like Sookie, I think she's funny :) I am planning to watch more on Netflix :)

Sookie is hilarious, isn't she? :D I love it when she rambles. Remember the episode when she has to cook a meal at the Inn for Lorelai's grandmother and parents? They point out that she has a rip in the back of her shirt, and then she goes into this elaborate explanation (with funny actions) of what happened to her in the kitchen. :giggle2:  I'm glad to see that she's become very successful since GG.

That was really funny, I loved her rambling too! It wasn't until I watched 'True Blood', that I realised Todd Lowe who played 'Terry Bellefleur' was also Zack in the Gilmore Girls, also I recognised Dean (Jared Padadlecki) because of 'Supernatural' :)

I like Todd in True Blood, but I thought he was an odd choice because Terry in the books is a Vietnam veteran, as far as I can recall. I'm not sure if he has the same past in the show, but I'm pretty sure Todd Lowe was born well after the Vietnam War, just like me. :) He's still really good in True Blood though, and I think they make him look a bit older. I never got past season 3 of True Blood for some reason. I really need to start it all again and watch it through to the end. :)

I'm not a particular fan of Sookie's but that scene is epic and so hilarious! :D I remember once rewinding it three or fours times just to watch it again and again. Comic genius!!

This Todd Lowe wouldn't happen to be related to Rob Lowe and that other one? Um... Chad Lowe?

Edit: Okay went to imdb to check and no, he's not.

I must admit that I already knew most of the facts in the article. :blush2: But one of the facts I didn't already know led me to discover another interesting fact. As the article mentions, the woman who was hired to design the Dragonfly Inn was a former porn star in real life. I looked her up on IMDB to see what else she had been in (non-porn titles!) and found that she had been in a recent movie called I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell with none other that Logan (Matt Czuchry)!

Reading those facts only made me sad. And a little angry at not knowing how Sherman-Palladino wanted it to end. I always thought the final season was somewhat subpar and that explains why. I hadn't realized that the producer had quit.

I want so badly to know the four words that Amy had in mind for the characters at the end, but now she's said she'll never reveal the words because she's afraid it's been too hyped up! I don't care if it's not some super-intelligent or witty thing...I just want to know!
