BrainFreeze
Well last year I set myself a 50 book challenge and only just exceeded that by 2. So this year I've set it for myself again and I've added a twist in that I have to include some books outside of my 'comfort zone' (horrors, thrillers, medical dramas etc). I did this last year but only with one author (Jodi Picoult). This year I want to expand on that. I also want to get the books I haven't yet read from my regular authors. Read Severed - Simon Kernick Reading A Good Day To Die - Simon Kernick Want To Read The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini A Thousand Splendid Suns - Khalid Hosseini Atonement - Ian McEwan The Reader - Bernhard Schlink Defiance - Nechama Tec Songs of the Humpback Whale - Jodi Picoult Harvesting the Heart - Jodi Picoult Picture Perfect - Jodi Picoult The Pact - Jodi Picoult Keeping Faith - Jodi Picoult Plain Truth - Jodi Picoult Second Glance - Jodi Picoult My Sisters Keeper - Jodi Picoult The Tenth Circle - Jodi Picoult Change of Heart - Jodi Picoult Suite Francaise - Irene Nemirovsky The Case of Mary Bell - Gitta Sereny Cries Unheard:The Story of Mary Bell - Gitta Sereny Obviously this is a work in progress and I'll update asap. frankie
and I've added a twist in that I have to include some books outside of my 'comfort zone' (horrors, thrillers, medical dramas etc). I think that is an excellent idea and very admirable! Looking forward to seeing how it goes for you
Charm
Thats a great challange Brainfreeze If you are interested Tess Gerritsen's The Surgeon would be a great book to start of your thriller section (with a medical element included!) It starts very quick and is easy to get into and has a few sequels to keep you interested. Good Luck and enjoy

I think I have about 4 or 5 of her stand alone novels still to get. Thank you for the recommendation though!

Good luck! I've read all but 1 of the ones you've listed of hers & some of them were fantastic books that challenged you, made you think about what your views were on the subject matter & why you thought that way. Others.........better left un-read! I'm definately curious to see which ones you do get read & what you think of them! BrainFreeze
I shall definitely keep you updated then! I've read 19 Minutes, Mercy, Vanishing Acts, Salem Falls and Perfect Match of Jodi Picoults and loved them all. I don't doubt there'll be at least one of hers I won't be so keen on, in fact I think I may have found it already in The Tenth Circle. I started it at the beginning of the year, and couldn't get into it properly. I shall try again soon and see how I go.

I read The Tenth Circle all the way through.. and it's still my least favorite so far. I got sooo tired of the comic book bits and all the Dante and Alaska bits! Sort of interesting though if you take a look at interviews with Picoult -- this is one of her favorites that she's written! For me, this was just not as good as her others. I have - it was the first book of hers I ever read and is probably my favourite that I've read so far. Any JP that's not on my list so far, I've read - which is about 5 I think. Heather
I finally finished The Trophy Taker - Lee Weeks. It was really good and I think I may even write a review of it here at some point this week! I've read that book too and like you I really enjoyed it you'll find what I thout of her book here http://heathersbookreviews.wordpress.com/thoughts/ can't wait to read more of her books. I have also read all of Patrica Cornwells Scarpetty books just waiting for Scarpetta to come out in paperback
BrainFreeze
Ooo yes I'll definitely have a look tomorrow at your review - have you read The Trafficked yet? She's got her 3rd book due out at some point this year too. I love Patricia Cornwell - but I've not read her latest Scarpetta. I do have Trace and Book of the Dead but not got round to reading them yet. Thought I'd see how I go with the first 2 in the Will Garrano set first and then read a few different authors before getting back into Scarpetta. I might even reread her early Scarpetta's actually, it's been a while since I read them. I saw in the daily activity thread that you're reading The Apprentice at the moment, what do you think? Have you read any other Tess Gerritsen? The Surgeon was the first book of hers I read and was a fantastic introduction to her. Made me buy loads more of her books - think I've only got a 4-5 of hers left to get now.

No I've not seen the film and not sure I want to either from what I've heard about it. The story interests me and I've heard quite a few good reviews about it (the book). Have you read the book? What did you think?

After all, if the reviews from the movie are so different from those about the book, then that means that the book might definitely be worth a chance.
