Read Breaking Dawn (it was my 12 year old daughter's copy!) around December of last year and was finished with it in a week or so. well, it's a good thing i read it before she did because i heard from other twi-fans that this was the steamiest book. well, it's tween-appropriate steam! =D

True Alia, it is good read though :D

The Summoning (Darkest Powers) by Kelley Armstrong ~ Started: 11.07.09 ~ Finished: 12.07.09

Synopsis ~

The first book in the Darkest Powers trilogy - a brand new series by bestselling author Kelley Armstrong. All Chloe Saunders wants is a life like any normal teenager - the chance to get through school, make friends, and maybe meet a boy. But when she starts seeing ghosts, she knows that life will never be normal again. Soon ghosts are everywhere, demanding her attention. When Chloe finally breaks down, she's admitted to a group home for disturbed kids. At first Lyle House seems okay, but as she gets to know the other patients - charming Simon and his ominous, unsmiling brother Derek; obnoxious Tori; and Rae, who has a 'thing' for fire - Chloe begins to realise that something strange and sinister binds them all together, and it isn't your usual 'problem kid' behaviour. And they're about to discover that Lyle House is not your usual group home, either ...

A great beginning to another exciting series by Kelley Armstrong. 'The Summoning' started well and got better, great characters, brilliant story (I loved the whole idea of Lyle House) and finding out more about what was happening to Chloe and the rest of the children at the House. As I said, a brilliant story and I am looking forward to the sequel ~ 'The Awakening'.

The Hitman Diaries by Danny King ~ Started: 12.07.09 ~ Finished: 14.07.09

Synopsis ~

Ian Bridges has a job he enjoys, works his own hours and earns good money. But he?s not a happy man. He wants more from life and longs to find that special lady to share his success. The only problem is, the only women he gets to meet in his line of work end up dead. Still, he?s determined to find a wife, even if it means that he has to kill every woman in Britain. Appallingly funny, this is Danny King's darkest, most comically twisted novel yet.

I read this book on the recommendation of my husband, we decided to swap books, I would read 'The Hitman Diaries' and he would read 'Let the right one in' by John Ajvide Lindqvist.

I wish I could say I enjoyed it but I didn't, it was supposed to be funny but as hard as I tried, I could not see the humour, the main character, Ian Bridges is looking for love and is determined to find it, you could see that the author wanted to make Ian endearing, he was not, his derogatory comments about women showed the reason why he could not find a woman, his lapses in judgement about any women in his life were confusing, he believed everything that his bosses told him.

Plus he was a hitman and he liked it.

Maybe I am losing my sense of humour, 'The Hitman Diaries' was not for me.

What a fab book!, 'The Awakening' was dare I say it?, better than 'The Summoning', Chloe and the rest of the group who escaped from Lyle House are now on the run whilst Chloe's powers are developing. A great read, I can not wait for the third installment.

Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz ~ Started: 20.07.09 ~ Finished: 27.07.09

Synopsis ~

"The dead don't talk. I don't know why." But they do try to communicate, with a short-order cook in a small desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. Odd Thomas thinks of himself as an ordinary guy, if possessed of a certain measure of talent at the Pico Mundo Grill and rapturously in love with the most beautiful girl in the world, Stormy Llewellyn. Maybe he has a gift, maybe it's a curse, Odd has never been sure, but he tries to do his best by the silent souls who seek him out. Sometimes they want justice, and Odd's otherworldly tips to Pico Mundo's sympathetic police chief, Wyatt Porter, can solve a crime. Occasionally they can prevent one. But this time it's different.

A mysterious man comes to town with a voracious appetite, a filing cabinet stuffed with information on the world's worst killers, and a pack of hyena-like shades following him wherever he goes. Who the man is and what he wants, not even Odd's deceased informants can tell him. His most ominous clue is a page ripped from a day-by-day calendar for August 15.

Today is August 14.

In less than twenty-four hours, Pico Mundo will awaken to a day of catastrophe. As evil coils under the searing desert sun, Odd travels through the shifting prisms of his world, struggling to avert a looming cataclysm with the aid of his soul mate and an unlikely community of allies that includes the King of Rock 'n' Roll. His account of two shattering days when past and present, fate and destiny converge is the stuff of our worst nightmares-and a testament by which to live: sanely if not safely, with courage, humor, and a full heart that even in the darkness must persevere.

"I see dead people. But then, by god, I do something about it."

'Odd Thomas' is the first book I have read by Dean Koontz and I enjoyed it. Odd is a such a interesting character, so much happened to him in his life (and still happening) but he has a good head on his shoulders, he is such a old soul as well, which I found endearing. A great and exciting read which had me gripped to the end and also made me a little sad.

I am looking forward to reading 'Forever Odd', the second book in the series. ;)

Hi Paula. I've mentioned old Dean before, having read all of his books. Some aren't as good as others, but when one writes a gazillion novels, they can't all be winners, eh? I love the guy. He's an old favourite that I look forward to picking up whenever he has a new one out.

You should try From The Corner Of His Eye. I thought it was a belter. Oooh, and Sole Survivor. Also very good.

Happy days, my friend. ;)

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami ~ Started: 14.07.09 ~ Finished: 31.07.09

Synopsis ~

Toru Watanabe is looking back on the love and passions of his life and trying to make sense of it all. As his first love Naoko sinks deeper into mental despair, he is inexorably pushed to find a new meaning and a new love in order to survive.

‘I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me’ ~ Norwegian Wood’ (Lennon/McCartney).

‘Norwegian Wood’ is one of my favourite songs by The Beatles and now ‘Norwegian Wood’ is one of my favourite’s books by Haruki Murakami, I have enjoyed of all his books but ‘Norwegian Wood’ will always be a favourite along with ‘A Wild Sheep Chase’ and ‘The Wind Up Bird Chronicle’.

Haruki Murakami has the rare talent I feel to make the reader feel like he has written the book just for them. There was so many aspects of ‘Norwegian Wood’ that I understood, things funnily enough I would not have understood when I was 19 (the same age as the main character Toru) but I understand now, and Toru does too, as the story progresses you see and feel him growing up.

Everything about the book is very vibrant, the most mundane thing is full of colour and life, the story flows so easily, you identify with all the characters in some way, another classic by Haruki Murakami.
